Effect of planting dates on Growth, Yield and Quality of two Mungbean (Vigna radiata L.) Varieties

Abstract

An experiment was conducted in Al-Mijar al-kabeer, Maysan Province on Sandy clay Loam Soil during summer 2012-2013. The objectives of the study were to determine the effect of different planting dates on growth, yield and quality of two varieties of mungbean viz. Turkish and Mahaly. The experiments design were Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replicates Results showed that seed yields and protein yield of variety (Turkish varieties) were increased significantly (893.43 and 199.51 Kg. h-1) respectively, The lowest values for seed yields and protein yields were exibted by the variety mahaly (483.90 and 90.39 Kg. h-1) of seeds, respectively. Early sowing dates (26 jun and 15 jul) Resulted in higest seed mungbean yield (742.72and 741.94 Kg. h-1) respectively, Results showed that (15 jul and 5August) planting increased significantly protein percentage to (21.42 % and 21.84 %) respectively
