Abstract

Angiotensin Converting En4.me Inhibitors (ACEIs) are now in wide use m the treatments of arterial h)?efiension (HT), congestive head failure (CHF), Acute myocardial infraction (AMI) as well as diabetic and non diabetic nephropathies. Acute renal failure (ARF) is most likeJy to occur hen renal perfusion pressure can not be sustained either because of critical decrease in mean arlerial pressure (MAp) a situation encountered in patients with CHF and pre-existing hypotension and low ventricular filling pressures or when glomerular filtration rate (GFR) is highly angiotensin II (AJI) dependent, a situation seen in states of volume depletion and in the presence of high grade bilateral renal artery stenosis as expected in elderly will a great deal of afierial atheromotoirs disease

Abstract

The indicated clinicat evaluation of ar)?ical squamous cells demonstrated on papanicolaou (Pap) smear has been determined. Although several repons and opinions suggest that these cells arc of no particular significances, other studies have noted these cetls in instances of advanceal cervical dysplasia. The Objective of the present srudy was to determine rhe prevalence of dysptasia in106 patients with recent Pap smear demonstrating atypical squamoxs cell . the study was conducted during the period 1998-2002 in the cyne€ologic Clinic at Hilla Hospitals and Deparrnent of parhotogy, Babylon University, Babylon, IRAQ. Abnomal colposopy was present in 59 (55%).ln 21 (36%) ofrhe 59 parienrs, dysplasia was confirmed histologically. Statistical significance was presenr in each ofthe groups lvith tissue sampling (arypical and immaturc squamous metaplasia, koilocltoric aq,pia, and dysplasia) when ages were compared with the palients having nomal colposcopy. . Pap smear is a significant indicalor of ceryical pathology. Altholgh this Pap smear may not be rsgarded as dysplasia" neither shouid be ignored. Cotposcopy Jnd biopsy of any abnonmlity is recommended in all these patients. Two distinct pattems of initial cletection of cenical dysplasia were apparent. It is concluded that the atpical squamous cell Pap smear is a significant jnd;cator oi.cervical pathology. Although this atpical Pap smear may not be regarded as dysplasia, neither shoutd be ignored. Colposcopy and biopsy of any abnomaliry is recommended in atl tbese patients

Abstract

A Radio receptor assay procedure was developed for the determination oftestosterone receptors in two groups of human uterine tumor patients (b€nign and malignano. The optimum conditions of the bindiry ofrz5l-testosterone to the receptors were as follows: receptor concentration: (250 ug proteh), tracer tesiosterone concentration (0.9 ng per 100! ), time (8 fu), pH (8.0) and tempemtues (4 and 25"C) for benign and malignani tumors respectively. Incubation of u{abeled testosterone and estradiol with uterine tumor tissue homosenate inhibited the ability of ]'?sl-testosterone to binal the uterire tissue lomogenate, whiie Eogestede in-hibjted the binding slightly. The use of0.1 M ofsodiurn halides and 0.025 M of divalent salts wore shown lo cause differ€nt €ffects on the binding in the two groups

Abstract

Necrotising ateritis apparently confined to ono organ yet showing histological fearures similar to those seen in polyarteritis nodosa is now well recognised. To report foxl cases of apparently isolated arteritis ofthe epididymis in patients who have no clinical evidence of systemic disease. The clinical. Histological, and immunohistochemical features of foxl cases of appareltly isolated arthdtis of the epidilmis are presented. The aetiology and pathogenesis of the conditton are discussed. Immunoglobulin and complement w€re shown in in acute arlerial lesions, but this is not conclusive evidence that isolatated arteritis is eilher an immune compiex disease or a forme liuste of polyarteritis nodosa, It is impodant that any patients with histological evidence of necrotizing aferitis should have full clinical, hematological, and biochemical investigations to exclude systemic disease because ofthe clinical differences between polyartedtis nodosa and isolated arteritis
