Abstract

Objective: leucocytes are cells of the immune system involved in defending the body against both infectious disease and foreign materials. When increase or decrease in the number of leukocytes in the blood is often an indicator of disease(the normal level of WBC in blood between 4000 to 11000 cell /ml ), , they make up approximately 1% of blood in a healthy adult.[3] An increasing in the number of leukocytes over the upper limits is called leukocytosis, and the decrease below the lower limit is called leukopenia. Method: This research contained study 64 patients (average age between 20 – 35 years ) suffering from increasing WBC " diagnostic by WBC count test "and perform lipid profile test (Triglyceride , cholesterol , LDL , HDL ) for all patients and shows the changes in lipid profileResults: we found relationship between increasing levels of lipid and increasing WBC disease. These result are (45% cholesterol) (58%Triglyceride)(39% LDL)(22% HDL). That is mean, the increasing of lipid profile were stimulation of immune system to increasing the white blood cell. We conclude than an increasing WBC associated with increasing of lipid profile

(45% cholesterol)(58%Triglyceride)(39% LDL)(22% HDL) .

Abstract

Background: Anemia is define as decreased hemoglobin level, or circulating red blood cells and it is the most common hematological disorder during pregnancy. Objective(s): To identify prevalence of anemia, risk factors that contribute to the occurrence of anemia, and to explain the main types of anemia during pregnancy.Materials and methods: A descriptive cross- sectional study conducted at primary health care in Bab- Al-Moudham center in Baghdad city, the sample was selected by non- probability (convenient sampling) and sample size (150). The study started from 1nd March to 10th June 2012, the data was collected by direct interview technique. Previous questionnaire was structured by the researchers to measure the variable of the study; these information infants include (age, educational level, number of children, type of delivery, and type of feeding, .etc).Results: The results shows that most frequent age group was (2-29) years, (34.7%) of mothers were primary school graduate and about (54%) of the pregnant women with anemia had no abortion and no bleeding. Conclusions: The study concluded that higher percentage of pregnant mothers was low rate hemoglobin. Recommendations: The study recommended that encourage pregnant mothers to visit primary health care centers early and regularly and take drugs that prevent the occurrence of anemia during pregnancy period.

Abstract

Background: Leishmaniasis is important public health problem owing to its impact on morbidity and mortality and difficulties in application of effective control measures. Objective: The aim of the study is to evaluate the using of impregnate bed nets in the control of leishmaniasis. Methods: The study was conducted throughout the years 2004 and 2005, in Diala Governorate (about 60km north-east Baghdad). This is the first study in Iraq for evaluation of the impregnated bed net in control of leishmaniasis. Two villages were selected to achieve this aim. The nets were distributed for the first village to be used by their population. The second village was served as control. Results: The results revealed that there was a significant decline in the incidence of cutaneous leishmaniasis from 19.23 per 1000 (before net distribution) to 3.34 per 1000 (after net distribution). On other hand, there was no significant difference in the incidence in the second village (control) as it was 13.42 to 12.46 per 1000.Conclusions: Impregnated bed net is effective in the reduction of leishmaniasis incidence when used properly as a control measures.
