Soft tissue impingement and lip form in Iraqi teenagers

Abstract

Background: Soft tissue impingement and lip form have often been overlooked in previous epidemiological surveys.Materials and Methods: About seven thousand 13 year olds with no history of orthodontic treatment were selected from six governorates (Baghdad the capital, Ninevah, Basrah, Diyala, Anbar and Najaf). An intra-oral clinical examination was used to assess traumatic overbite causing soft tissue impingement and the lip form of each student.Results: Soft tissue impingement was found in 2.7% (2.5% palatally and 0.2% labially). Normal lip form was found in 80.7%, contracting lip form in 14.7% and lip trap in 4.6% of the sample. All the previous were non-significantly related to gender and residency.Conclusion: Iraqi children present a much mre favorable lip form than Western children

Abstract

The major goal of periodontal therapy is to eliminate the periodontal pockets and `to create a connective tissue attachment. Forty two patients with periodontal pocketssubdivided into 2 groups, Tissucol group, 21 patient were treated surgically withintroduction of` Tissucol bioadhesive material, other 21 patients were also treatedsurgically their flaps were sutured according to the traditional suture technique. Theresult showed that there were a significant gain in the pocket depths reduction andattachment levels in both groups, but that of Tissucol group is superior than that ofsuturing group. The patients were followed for six months, the stability of the gain inTissucol group still significant, while that of suturing group showed a significant loss inpocket depth reduction and attachment level during the six months of follow up. Theresult suggested that the tissucol help in creation of connective tissue attachment andpreventing the invasion of epithelial growth. The role of oral hygiene were also taken inconsideration , as long the oral hygiene kept in healthy state level as the gain in pocketdepth and attachment level maintained stable .

Abstract

This study was conducted in tissue culture laboratory , Department of Horticulture , College of Agriculture , University of Baghdad , Many experiments were carried out to study the effect of different growth regulators like cytokinins , Auxins and adenine sulphate at different concentration when used in growth media for Z. mauritiana in the laboratory.Branches with 1-1.5 cm length was cultured in test tubes with MS media which specially used for multiplication . The test tubes were incubated in growth camber at 25 C.البحث مستل من رسالة ماجستير للباحث الثانيNumber and length of branches where recorded after 6 weeks from culturing in all experiments.Randomized Complete Block Design with ten replicate were used to compare the results examined by Duncan test at 5% level of significant.The results can be summarized as follow :There are a possibility of multiplication and formation of many branches from one cultured branch.Culturing branches in MS media with BA at 2.0 mg/L and NAA at 0.1 mg/L in which 3.0 branches with 4.1 cm length.Adding adenine sulphate at different concentration significantly increased the number and length of branches formed. 4.2 branches with 5.2 cm length were formed when adenine sulphate at a concentration of 40 mg/L.

نفذت هذه الدراسة في مختبر زراعة الأنسجة في كلية الزراعة – جامعة بغداد ، حيث أجريت عدة تجارب حول تأثير بعض منظمات النمو كالسايتوكاينينات والاوكسينات وكذلك كبريتات الادينين في التضاعف الخضري وبعدة تراكيز لغرض تحديد افضل وسط غذائي ملائم للزراعة النسيجية لإكثار نبات السدر صنف تفاحي Z. mauritiana في المختبر. زرعت الأفرع بطول 1-1.5 سم في أنابيب اختبار محتوية على وسط MS الخاص بتحفيز عملية التضاعف مضافاً إليه تراكيز مختلفة من منظمات النمو المذكورة. حضنت في غرفة النمو على إضاءة مقدارها 40-60 مايكروانشتاين لكل م2 في الثانية لمدة 16 ساعة يومياً أعقبها 8 ساعات ظلام . وفي درجة حرارة 25 ْم . أخذت البيانات (عدد الأفرع المتكونة وأطوالها) بعد 6 أسابيع من الزراعة وللتجارب كافة. أخضعت جميع البيانات في نهاية التجارب الى تحليل التباين ومن ثم اختبار الفروق الإحصائية بين المعدلات وذلك بحسب اختبار دنكن المتعدد المديات وعلى مستوى احتمال 5% .أظهرت النتائج إمكانية تحفيز التضاعف وتكوين أفرع عدة من اصل فرع واحد من خلال نقل الفرع الى وسط MS مضافاً إليه 2.0 ملغم / لتر من الـ BA و 0.1 ملغم / لتر من NAA إذ بلغ عدد الأفرع المتكونة 3.0 فرع بمعدل طول 4.1 سم.وأدت اضافة كبريتات الادينين بتراكيز مختلفة الى زيادة معنوية في عدد الأفرع وأطوالها إذ تم الحصول على معدل تضاعف بلغ 4.2 فرع وبطول 5.2 سم عند التركيز 40 ملغم / لتر .

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate soft tissueadaptability to hard tissue; in other words, to evaluate the relationbetween the inclination of upper and lower anterior teethwith the upper and lower lips, and how this relation affectthe soft tissue profile in Class II division 1 malocclusion subjectfor both genders (males and females).The sample of this study comprised lateral cephalogramsfrom 40 Class II division 1 malocclusion subjects (20 malesand 20 females) aged 18–25 years. Two dental [upper and lowerincisor inclination {the angle formed between the longaxis of the upper central incisor (U1) and the palatal plane(PP) and the angle formed between the long axis of the lowercentral incisor (L1) and the mandibular plane (MP)}] and threesoft tissue [nasolabial (nla), labiomental (lma) and soft tissuefacial convexity (n–sn–pog)] angular measurements wereanalyzed. The results showed no significant difference betweenmales and females concerning the proclination of upperanterior teeth and the prominency of upper lip, while the femalesexhibited more proclined lower anterior teeth and moreprotrusive lower lip than males. The males tend to have moreconvex facial profile than females
