Abstract

In this paper, the K2NiF4 system, La2NiO4+δ, has been analysed for potential photocatalytic activity for destruction of organic pollutants under low intensity UV light, with methyl orange used as model pollutants. The La2NiO4+δ, was shown to have promising photocatalytic activity. In addition, there was also evidence for catalytic decomposition of methyl orange in the dark, most likely due to a redox process, although further work is required to confirm this. The results show that the nanoLa2NiO4 samples prepared by sol-gel method have better photocatalytic activity than La2NiO4 prepared by solid state method since the sol-gel method produces a smaller particles sizes comparing to the solid state method. X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric analyses (TGA), and The Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) were used for surface characterizations.

في هذا البحثK2NiF4 system, La2NiO4+δ, قد تم اختبارها كعوامل مساعدة ضوئية مع امكانية استعمالها كمواد ذات فعالية لتحطيم الملوثات العضوية تحت اشعة فوق البنفسجية واطئة الشدة مع استعمال المثيل البرتقالي كمثال عن هذه الملوثات. المواد المحضرة في هذا البحث اظهرت فعالية ضوئية جيدة. بالاضافة الئ ذلك هنالك دليل علئ تحطيم المثيل البرتقالي في الظلام وبدون الضوء والذي ممكن ان يعزئ الئ تفاعلات الاكسدة والاختزال للنيكل الثنائي والثلاثي, هذه الفعالية تحتاج الئ تحليل في المستقبل لاثباتها . طبقا للنتائج فان المواد المحضرة بطريقة sol – gel تنتج مواد ذات حجم اقل من المواد التي تنتج بطريقة solid state .

Abstract

Titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticles have been synthesized by sol gel method. The synthesized nanoparticles followed by calcinations at different temperatures in the range 200-800°C for 2 hours. Both the evolution of the crystal size and nature of the phases were studied as a function of annealing temperatures. These materials display a good thermal stability up to 400°C, in term of crystal size, and up to 600°C, regarding the crystalline phase. The phase purity and crystallite size of as grown TiO2 particles were characterized via X-ray diffraction (XRD). The characterized results indicated that the synthesized TiO2 powders had a pure two phases anatase and rutile structures and the average particle sizes were about 5-53 nm.The synthesized TiO2 nanoparticles exhibited 1.0053% time higher photocatalytic activity for Bismarck Brown R than that of commercial Hombikate (UV100) .
