Abstract

Primary amenorrhea which result commonly from sex chromosome aberration as geneticabnormalities, may result from oneaberration in autosomal chromosomes or in association with sex chromosomal aberrations. Chromosomal analysis was performed for the 26 years old lady (married and infertile) with primary amenorrhea by using G-band technique. Four autosomal chromosomes are involved in producing primary amenorrhea with normal phenotype, secondary characteristics were associated with mosaic karyotypes the1st: 46,XX,(3;5;10)(q13-23;q23-35;22-25),(5;19)(qter;p13.2),del(19p13.2).2nd: 45,XX, ,(3;5;10)(q13-23;q23-35;22-25),del(12),del(12),del(19p13.2),(M).The sex chromosomes look normal. The conclusion was that may be some autosomal chromosomes regulate reproductive development and may the alerted regions on chromosomes in recent study have effect somehow on regulation of reproductive development.

Abstract

Background: structural shielding are fundamental to controlling the exposure of the workers as well as the exposure of the general public.Aim of the study: The objective of the present work is to assess the primary shielding of the digital chest x-ray room of Al- Hussaini hospital in Karbala city Materials and method: The technical data of minimum ,maximum and average of mAs and the corresponding values voltages of the chest x-ray procedures for 1134 patients over two months have been used to calculate the total workload per week and total workload per patient based on the National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurements report No.147 (NCRP report No. 147).Results and discussion :It is found that the workload per week was about 4.5 times that of recommended by NCRP report No.147 ,whereas the workload per patient was about five times that of stated by NCRP report No.147 for the same number of patients per 36 actual work hour week for busy situation. By adoption the equations of NCRP report No.147 the required thickness of lead as primary barrier was 2.7 mm or 184 mm from concrete. Conclusion: The thicknesses of Bricks, Concrete and Gypsum that were actually used were highly enough to be used as a primary shielding barrier.

Abstract

Background:This is a prospective study of three children presented to us in the Orbital clinic in AL ShahidGazi Al Hariri Hospital with painless proptosiswith suspension of Hydatid disease. Objectives: : Orbital hydatid disease is a rare lesion accounting for less than 1% of the total lesions of the body (1, 2). Orbital cysts presented as a primary lesion in our study which is rare to have such lesion without involvement of other organs (3). Humans represent the intermediate host where the commonly affected organ are liver and the lung (10-15%) (4). Methods:This is a prospective study of three Children presented to us in the Orbital clinic in Al Shahid Ghazi Alhariri Hospital with painless proptosis with suspension of Hydatid disease, depending on the cultural background and baseline investigation done elsewhere, during the period from Jan. 2012 to Jan. 2013.Results:Three children presented to us with painless proptosis one of them involving the right eyewhile the other two involve the left eye. One of patients male aged only three years while the other two were females aged nine and thirteen years of age. After radiological investigations two of the Children found to have a cystic extraconal lesion in superolateral angle of the orbit while the other one his lesions found in the superomedial angle of the orbit. The first two surgically approached by lateral orbitotomy while the other one by medial orbitotomy trying to avoid rupture of the cysts. After histopathological investigation of the lesions the diagnosis was confirmedasHydatidcyst.conclusions:Hydatid cyst of the Orbit is uncommon disease account for less than 1% of the total orbital lesions of the body.Haydatid disease of the orbit more common on the left side. The most common sites involved in the Orbit are the superolateral and superomedialangle.Haydatid disease of the orbit can present as a primary lesion without evidence of involvement of other part of the body.Haydatid disease of the orbit can present below 7 years of age.Haydatid cyst of the orbit can be removed intact with meticulous dissection

Abstract

ABSTRACT:BACKGROUND:Non invasive measurement of intime-media thickness(IMT) of the common carotid artery by high resolution ultrasonography and its importance in stroke patient.OBJECTIVE: The study was designed to study this relation in our locality.PATIENTS AND METHODS:Thirty patients with ischemic stroke that were admitted in the medical department of Al Yarmook teaching hospital were tested by the aid of echocardiography department to measure intima-media thickness of the common carotid artery and they were compared with 20 persons(matching age and sex) without history of stroke or transient ischemic attack. RESULTS:The mean of IMT of common carotid artery in stroke pateints was 1.24mm while in control group the mean was 0.765 mm.CONCLUSION:There is a significant relation between the increased IMT of common carotid artery and stroke.

Abstract

The present study has been out to examine macroscopic structure of the primary bronchi and lung in Bee-eaters bird ( Merops orientalis) observed exist within the rib cage, the distal part of the trachea are divided into two primary bronchi (left and right) and the macroscopic appearance of the primary bronchi consists of a short tube extend caudally from syrinx to enter the proximal third of the visceral surface of the lungs through the hilus. The basic unit consisting of the primary bronchi are cartilaginous rings which takes - C - shape. The mean total length of left and right primary bronchi are (1.025 ± 0.15 cm) and (1.075 ± 0.14 cm); and the number of cartilaginous rings in left and right primary bronchi are ( 18.5 ± 0.50) and (18.5 ± 1.50). The lungs are small, pyramidal-shaped, unlobed, bright pink color, and surrounded by thin colorless membrane the pleura and the air sacs. The lung containstwo surfaces (dorsal and ventral), two borders ( medial and lateral) and two extremities ( proximal and distal ). The mean total length, width and thickness of the right lung are (1.77 ± 0.17 cm), (0.95 ± 0.15 cm) and (0.4 ± 0.10 cm) while the mean total length, width and thickness of the left lung are (1.6 ± 0.15 cm ), ( 0.9 ± 0.14 cm )and (0.37 ± 0.02 cm ).

Abstract

Background and objective: Deltopectoral flap is a two staged flap requiring skin graft of the donor site. This study was conducted to evaluate the possibility of primary closure of the deltopectoral flap-donor site without skin grafting. Methods: The operations were conducted at Rizgari Teaching Hospital in the center of Erbil City, Kurdistan Region of Iraq. From January 2009 to December 2012, 14 deltopectoral flaps for reconstruction of oral/facial cancer ablative defects were done. Data on the age, gender, tumor site, and postoperative complications related to primarily closed deltopectoral flap-donor site (fistula, dehiscence, or hematoma leading to impairment of wound healing) and postoperative hospital stay were recorded. Results: Of the 14 head-and-neck tumours, 10 were squamous cell carcinomas and four were ameloblastomas. Eleven of the patients were males and only three were females. The mean age (±SD) of the patients was 59±13 years. There was no evidence of partial or complete loss of the flap in any of the patients studied. There was no case of breakdown of the primarily closed donor site. The only registered complication was slight localized dehiscence at the most proximal and distal part of the primarily sutured flap donor site in one patient. Conclusion: Primary closure of deltopectoral flap donor site is possible with minimal complication that overcomes the problem of skin grafting. Minimal wound breakdown in younger patients had been noted and left to heal by secondary intention.
