Comparing the Effects of Denture Base Materials on Hygiene of Mucosal Denture Bearing Area

Abstract

This study attempted to evaluate the effects of using partial denture on the oral mucous membrane of the denture bearing area between 48 patients attended the private clinic seeking RPD treatment , two types of denture material were used (Hard or heat cured acrylic partial denture and flexible(Nylon) partial denture) .Flexible dentures exhibited viscoelastic behaviour that lead to improvement in masticatory function and patients comfort compared with hard dentures .Flexible dentures showed little effects on the mucosa of denture bearing area and little changes on the mucosa, but there were high influences on the soft tissues properties with using hard acrylic denture type . Denture hygiene found mainly fair in both hard and flexible(nylon) denture base materials.

Abstract

is to evaluate the effect of three different disinfectant solutions on shear bond strength of artificial acrylic teeth for retention to flexible denture base material at three different periods of time. Materials and Methods: The total number of samples was (60) divided into 4 groups according to the three chemical disinfectant solution which used and the control distilled water group: Group( I) vinegar group, Group( II) salt group , Group(III) Chlorohexidine group , Group (IV ) the control distilled water group, where each group was subdivided into three subgroups according to disinfection periods which are 1week, 1month and 3month where each group contain five samples. The samples of shear bond strength test were consist of acrylic teeth with T-shape design for retention attached to rod of valplast The test was performed using a Universal testing machine. ANOVA, DuncunP,Ps multiple range and Post Hoc Tests were carried out to determine the significant difference at p ≤ 0.01%. Results: The results appeared that control distilled water group has the highest value for the three periods of disinfection (1 week,1month,3months), while vinegar solution group has the least value. The results showed that there were significant differences between the four tested groups and also there were significant differences among all periods of time of disinfections. Conclusion: There was a significant difference of shear bond strength between artificial teeth and flexible denture base material after disinfection in the four disinfectant solutions for all periods of time of immersion. Vinegar group had highest effect on the bond strength while the distilled water group had the least effect after all periods of time of disinfections. Shear bond strength decreased with increasing the time immersion. The shear bond strength was lowest in chloherxidine group as the time of immersion increase when compared with the two other groups of disinfection solutions in this study.

Abstract

To evaluate the effect of two prepared and commercial solution on surface roughness and tensile strength of highly impact acrylic denture base material. Materials and Methods: The total number of specimens were one hundred and fifty. They were prepared from highly impact acrylic and subdivided into five groups for each solution (EDTA, Soda+HR2ROR2R, Lacalut, Corega and distilled water). Two la-boratory tests were used for this research. Surface Roughness and tensile strength test. The surface roughness test specimens were constructed with dimensions (10×10×2±0.03mm) (length, width, and thickness respectively). According to ADA specification no.12 the tensile test specimens were con-structed with dimensions 90×10×3±0.03mm (length, width, and thickness respectively). The immersion periods in this research are (2day, 7 day and one month). ANOVA and Duncan multiple range test were used. The statistical results were considered significant at p ≤ 0.05. Results: the results showed that (soda+HR2ROR2R) has no significant change on the surface roughness and tensile strength of highly impact acrylic denture base material in (2day, 7 day, and 1month). Conclusion: (soda+HR2ROR2R) has the lowest effect on the surface roughness and tensile strength of highly impact acrylic denture base material in (2day, 7 day, and 1month

Abstract

Background: Fracture of different types of acrylic denture base is a common problem associated with dental prosthesis. Studies suggested that the repair strength may be improved by several means including surface treatment with chemical agents. The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of surface treatment with acrybond-bonding agent and monomer on fractured denture base in respect to transverse, tensile and shear bond strength and evaluation of the mode of failure by light microscope. Materials and methods: Two hundred seventy specimens were prepared and divided into 3 groups according to thematerial used (regular conventional, rapid simplified and high impact) heat cure acrylic. The specimen in each groups were prepared specifically according to testing (tensile, transverse and shear bond strength). All the specimens were stored in 37°C for 28days before fracture then the specimens in each test were divided into 3 groups according to surface treatment (control-without surface treatment, monomer(MMA) group and acrybond (MMA with acetone ))group. The specimens repaired with cold cure acrylic using Ivomet; then stored in distill water at 37°C for 2days before testing. GEFRA universal testing machine was used and final load at fracture was recorded. Results: monomer and acrybond group exhibited higher bond strength than control group. Conclusion: the type of denture base affect the value of bond strength and the use of monomer or acrybond resulted in higher bond strength than untreated surface

Abstract

Background:Recently, Poly propylene fibers with and without plasma treatment have been used to reinforce heatcure denture base acrylic but, so far some of properties like tensile strength , wettability and wear resistance notevaluated yet, the aim of the study is to clarify the influence of incorporation of treated and untreated fibers on theseproperties.Materials and methods: Twenty one specimens were fabricated for every tested property(tensile strength, wearresistance and wettability) that classified into three groups(control, untreated poly propylene fibers reinforcedspecimens and Oxygen plasma treated group)and for each test seven samples were used(n=7). Tensile strength wastested using Instron universal testing machine, wear resistance was evaluated by pin on disk wear measurementmethod while, a digital microscope supplied with high resolution camera was utilized to measure the contact anglereflecting wettability grade. One wayANOVA table and LSD were used to analyze the results.Results: The tensile strength showed a paradoxical effect, plasma treated samples group demonstrated a negativeinfluence in contrary, to the untreated group that revealed positive high significant impression. The plasma treatedgroup had manifested a- positive significant difference regarding wear resistance whilst, the beneficial effect oftreated and untreated Poly propylene fibers addition was obvious with high significant difference.Conclusion: Incorporation of O2 plasma treated and untreated poly propylene fibers to heat cure poly methylmethacrylate resin was beneficial regarding the tested properties except for addition of plasma treated Polypropylene fibers on tensile strength

الخلفیة:حدیثا الیاف البولي بروبیلین مع و بدون معالجة بلازما الاوكسجین قد استخدمت في تقویة الراتنج الاكریلي الحراري لقاعدة الطقم لكن لحد الان لم یختبر تاثیرھا على قوة الشد وقابلیةالترطب ومقاومة البلى.المواد و الاسالیب:احدى و عشرین عینة قد اختبرت لكل صفة من الصفات الثلاثة بواقع سبعة نماذج اختباریةلكل من مجموعة السیطرةو مجموعة النماذج المدعمة بالالیاف المعالجة ببلازماالاؤكسجین والمجموعة الاخیرة للالیاف غیر امعالجة.اختبرت قوة الشد بجھاز الانسترون و اختبرت قابلیة الترطب بمایكروسكوب رقمي وفحصت مقومة البلى بطریقة المسمار علىالقرص.النتائج:اظھرت النتائج تباینا واضحا عند فحصقوة الشد لصالح اضافة الالیاف غیر المعالجة بینما بینت تاثیر سلبي للالیاف المعالجة اما ما یخصالصفتین الأخرتین فقد اظھرتا تأثراایجابیا خصوصا في صفة قابلیة الترطیب.الاستنتاج:مع محدودیة البحث یستنتج بأن اضافة الالیاف المعالجة و غیر المعالجة اثر ایجابیا بالصفات المدروسة في ما عدا قوة الشد مع الالیاف المعالجة

Abstract

The study examined the bond between different denture base resins and highly cross-linked acrylic denture teeth with different base surface-conditioning methods. Fourty specimens are prepared from two main groups, each group used a different type of heat cure acrylic resin denture base material .A, B (Rodex&Pigon) Each main groups subdivided into four subgroups according to surface treatment A1,B1=control, no surface conditioning A2,B2=retention groove, A3,B3=grinding, A4,B4=application of methyl methacrylate monomer, After 24 ho of storage in distilled water, compressive load was applied at 90° on the palatal surface of each tooth until fracture.Results: The statistical analysis showed that there were statistically no significant differences between the two type of denture base in improvement of shear bond strength, surfaces treatment of the teeth provided different bond between the acrylic denture base &teeth

هذه الدراسة تقوم بفحص قوة الربط ما بين نوعين مختلفين من اسطح الطقم الاكريلي وبين الاسنان الصناعية وذلك بعد معالجة هذه الاسنان بثلاث طرق والمقارنة بينهم للوصول الى افضل طريقة لمنع انفصال هذه الاسنان عن سطح الطقم او انكسارها عند تعرضها الى قوى القطع خلال عملية المضغ، حيث تم تعريض الاسطح القاطعة للأسنان لقوى عمودية في منطقة ارتباط الاسنان بسطح الطقم الى ان حصل الكسر او الانفصال وبعده قياس مقدار القوة المسلطة اتضح بالمقارنة ان معالجة الاسنان بهذه الطرق المختلفة تعطي قوة ربط مختلفة مع سطح الطقم الاكريلي.

Abstract

Background: The PMMA polymer denture base materials are low in thermal and strength properties. The aim of the study was to investigate the change in glass transition temperature, E-Moudulus and coefficient of thermal expansion of acrylic denture base material by addition of Al2O3, TiO2 and SiO2nano-fillers in 5% by weight.Materials and methods: The type of polymerization is free radical bulk polymerization. one hundred twenty (120) specimens were prepared , the specimens were divided into four groups according to the material had been added (one control and three for Al2O3, TiO2 and SiO2nanocomposite) each group was subdivided in to three groups according to the test had been done on it, the degree of transition (Tg) was measured by The differential scanning calorimeter (DSC), E-Modulus and coefficient of thermal expansion and contraction was measured by Thermo Mechanical Analyzer (TMA) .Each sample was tested at different temperatures (30,40,50,60,70C°).Results: Highly significant decrease in coefficient thermal expansion and contraction and in E-Modulus occurred in acrylic incorporated with Al2O3, TiO2 and SiO2 nano-fillers in 5% by weight when compared to control group. For glass transition temperature a significant increase had occurred with the addition of nanofillers at 5% when compared to control group.Conclusion: The results showed that the polymer nanocomposites possess material properties different from that of unmodified PMMA, nanocomposite has thermal and mechanical stability more than heat neat PMMA

الخلفية : البوليمر بدلة المواد الأساسية PMMA منخفضة في الخصائص الحرارية والقوة .. وكان الهدف من الدراسة للتحقيق التغيير في درجة حرارة التحول الزجاجي ، E- Moudulus و معامل التمدد الحراري لل مادة الاكريليك قاعدة أسنان بإضافة AL2O3 ، TIO2 و SIO2 نانو الحشو في 5 ٪ من وزنها .المواد و الأساليب: نوع البلمرة مجانية البلمرة الراديكالية الأكبر . قد أضيفت أعدت مائة وعشرين ) 021 ( العينات ، تم تقسيم العينات إلى أربع مجموعات وفقا للمادة ) عنصر تحكمواحد وثلاثة ل AL2O3 ، TIO2 و SIO2 بمركب متناهي في الصغر ( تم تقسيم كل مجموعة إلى ثلاث مجموعات وفقا لاختبار زيارتها تم القيام به على ذلك، تم قياس درجة التحول) تيراغرام ( بواسطة المسعر المسح التفاضلي ) DSC ) ، E معامل و معامل التمدد الحراري والانكماش و تقاس الحرارية محلل الميكانيكية ) - TMA ( . تم اختبار كل عينة فيدرجات حرارة مختلفة ) 01،01،51،01،01 C . ) °النتائج : انخفاض كبير للغاية في معامل التمدد الحراري والانكماش و E معامل وقعت في الاكريليك تدمج مع - AL2O3 ، TIO2 و SIO2 نانو الحشو في 5 ٪ من الوزن مقارنةبالمجموعة الضابطة . ل درجة حرارة التحول الزجاجي زيادة كبيرة حدثت مع إضافة المالئة النانومترية في 5 ٪ مقارنة بالمجموعة الضابطة .الاستنتاج : أظهرت النتائج أن nanocomposites و البوليمر تمتلك خصائص مواد مختلفة عن تلك التي PMMA معدلة ، بمركب متناهي في الصغر لديه الاستقرار الحراري والميكانيكي أكثر من الحرارة PMMA أنيق.
