Abstract

Background: some properties of heat-cured acrylic resin are required to beimproved (like flexural strength, hardness and porosity) by adding different types offibers like polypropylene fiber, also needed to determine these properties withaddition of polypropylene fibers and curing the polymer by autoclave. The aim of thisstudy was to evaluate the effect of adding polypropylene fibers in two differentlengths (6mm, 12mm) and concentration 2%, and the effect of autoclave processingon some properties(flexural, surface hardness and porosity).Material and method: A total No. of 120 specimens were prepared in this studyand divided into two main groups according to length of fibers (6mm,12mm) , eachmain group was subdivided into two groups according to method of adding the fiber(directly to the powder or immersed in monomer). Each group of them contain 10specimens for each test.Result: in this study, the transverse strength and surface hardness of heat curedacrylic reinforced by randomly oriented polypropylene fibers (12mm, 2%) regardlessto application method with higher significance than other groups. Fiber reinforcementand autoclave processing showed non-significant effect on porosity of heat cureacrylic resin according to ANOVA t-test.Conclusion: Reinforcement by randomly oriented polypropylene fiber (12mm,2%) added with and without immersion in monomer better than other groupsaccording to transverse strength and surface hardness with autoclave processing butthere is no effect of added fibers on porosity test.

Abstract

To evaluate the effect of addition of different fibers on some mechanicalproperties of heat cured acrylic resin (flexural strength, impact strength and hardness).210 specimens were used in the study.70 specimens were used for flexuralstrength with measurements (65mm*10mm*2.5mm) length, width and thicknessrespectively. The specimens were divided into seven test groups (n=10). The firstgroup is the Control one and it was without fiber reinforcement, second groupreinforced with 2mm polyester fibers, third group reinforced with 4mm polyesterfibers, fourth group reinforced with 2mm Polypropylene fibers, fifth group reinforcedwith 4mm Polypropylene fibers, sixth group reinforced with 2mm of both fibers(polyester and Polypropylene), and seventh group reinforced with 4mm of both fibers(polyester and Polypropylene). 70 specimens were used for impact strength in sevengroup (n=10) with measurements (80mm*10mm*4mm) length, width and thicknessrespectively. 70 specimens were used for hardness test in seven groups (n=10) withmeasurements (65mm*10mm*2.5mm) length, width and thickness respectively.The Results Show that there are highly significant differences between all groupsexcept for a significant differences between control and combination 2 mm fiberlength (mean differences=33.45). For the hardness test the comparisons show thatthere is no significant differences between groups except for a significant differencesbetween control and combination of both fibers with 2mm length (mean differences=-1.34). For impact strength; there are highly significant differences between all groupsexcept for a significant differences between Polyester fiber of 2mm length andcombination of the two fiber of 2 mm length (mean differences=-3.1).In conclusion, the addition of different fibers (polyester and Polypropylene) toacrylic resin gives it more resistance to break and more resistance to bend.

Abstract

The present investigations consider the effect of hybrid micro steel- polypropylene fibers on high strength concrete. The fractions of steel and polypropylene fibers are 1% and 0.5% by volume respectively. Many mixes have been investigation by combination between steel fibers and polypropylene fibers with different percentages it is (0%S.F-100%P.P.F), (100%S.F-0%P.P.F), (25%S.F, 75%P.P.F), (50%S.F-50%P.P.F), (75%S.F-25%P.P.F) in addition to reference mix. Properties of high strength concrete such as compressive strength, splitting strength, flexural strength, static modulus of elasticity, and absorption have been studied. The results showed that, the compressive strength decrease by about 28% when adding (0%S.F-100%P.P.F), and there are a small increasing with adding (100%S.F-0%P.P.F). However the results showed that there are an inverse relationship between compressive strength and the amount of polypropylene fibers. Experimental work also showed that adding (0%S.F-100%P.P.F)decrease the splitting strength by about 16%, while using hybrid fibers increase the splitting strength but less than its increasing when adding (100%S.F-0%P.P.F). It can be concluded that, the maximum effect of hybrid fibers is on the flexural strength, it is reach to 128% more than reference mix. Furthermore absorption increases by using polypropylene fibers.

هذا البحث أخذ بنظر الاعتبار تأثير مزيج الألياف الحديدية وألياف البولي بروبلين على الخرسانة عالية المقاومة. إن نسبة ألياف الحديد والبولي بروبلين هي 1% و0,5% على التوالي. عدة خلطات تم الاستقصاء عنها وذلك بالمزج بين ألياف الحديد والبولي بروبلين بنسب مختلفة وهي (0% ألياف حديد-100% ألياف البولي بروبلين), (100% ألياف حديد-0% ألياف البولي بروبلين), (25% ألياف حديد-75% ألياف البولي بروبلين), (50% ألياف حديد-50% ألياف البولي بروبلين), (75% ألياف حديد-25% ألياف البولي بروبلين) بالإضافة إلى الخلطة المرجعية. مواصفات الخرسانة العالية المقاومة تم دراستها كمقاومة الانضغاط و مقاومة الانشطار ومعامل الإنحاء ومعامل المرونة ونسبة الامتصاص. النتائج أظهرت إن مقاومة الانضغاط تقل بنسبة 28% بإستخدام (0% ألياف حديد-100% ألياف البولي بروبلين) وعند استخدام (100% ألياف حديد-0% ألياف البولي بروبلين) تزداد مقاومة الانضغاط بنسبة صغيرة . لكن النتائج أظهرت إن هناك علاقة عكسية بين زيادة نسبة ألياف البولي بروبلين ومقاومة الانضغاط. النتائج العملية أظهرت أيظا إن إضافة (0% ألياف حديد-100% ألياف البولي بروبلين) تقلل من مقاومة الانشطار بنسبة 16% ولكن استخدام مزيج الألياف يزيد من مقاومة الانشطار ولكن هذه الزيادة أقل من الزيادة الناتجة من استخدام (100% ألياف حديد-0% ألياف البولي بروبلين). ويمكن الاستنتاج إن أكثر تأثير لمزيج الألياف هو على مقاومة الانحناء حيث تصل الزيادة إلى 128% أكثر من الخلطة المرجعية. بالإضافة إلى إن نسبة الامتصاص تزداد بإستخدام ألياف البولي بروبلين.
