Abstract

Background: Obesity is a medical condition in which excess body fat has accumulated to the extent that it has an adverse effect on health.. It measured by BMI (body mass index), obesity is considered when the BMI is ≥ 30 kg/m2.It increases the risk of coronary heart disease, Diabetes Mellitus and Cancer. Chronic inflammation and impaired fibrinolysis in obesity may induce thrombosis.Aim of study: assess the effect of BMI (body mass index) on plasma level of Factor V and fibrinogen in obese and normal weight subjects. Methods:This study was started on December 2015 and completed on June 2016, and included 51 obese attended alyarmouk Teaching Hospital. As well 25 non-obese subjects, were recruited as a control, age range from18to 50 years old .The hemostatic parameters done for them included the prothrombin time, activated partial thromboplastin time, FV activity, fibrinogen level, and platelet count. Results:There were insignificant difference in the means of prothrombine time (PT),activated partial thromboplastine time(aPTT), Factor V activity( FV) and Platelet count(PLT)of obese group compared to control group with P value (0.63, 0.902, 0.44, 0.484) respectively. There was significant difference in the mean of fibrinogen of obese group compared to control group with P value (0.006).The correlation between BMI and (PT, PLT, FV and fibrinogen)in obese and control study groups were statistically insignificant with (P > 0.05) , but a significant positive correlation between BMI and PTT in obese group was found with (P=0.037). There was a significant negative correlation between FV and PT in obese and control groups (P =0.001).There was insignificant positive correlation between fibrinogen and PT in obese and control groups (P > 0.05).Conclusions: Significant difference in the mean of plasma level of fibrinogen concentration between obese group and normal weight group was found. Insignificant difference in the means of PT, aPTT, platelet count and FV activity between obese group and normal weight group were found. Keywords: obesity, FV, fibrinogen.

Abstract

Background: Obesity is highly associated with insulin resistance and increased risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Visfatin is adipocytokines that is highly expressed in visceral fat. Its expression in visceral fat is hyperglycemia in insulin deficient diabetes. Objective: To study the visfatin level in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients and its relation with obesity and insulin resistance.Patients and methods: This study was done in national diabetes center(NDC),AL -Mustansria University and AL –Yarmok Hospital Teaching ; on a total (120) individuals age range from (33-60) years. ( 80) patient type 2 diabetes nephropathy, (40) healthy controls . The enrolled patients were divided to three groups according to BMI ,data collection about age, sex ,WHR, BMI and blood samples to estimate serum visfatin levels, fasting plasma glucose(FPG), glycated hemoglobin(HbA1c), lipid profile (TC,TG,HDL-C,and LDL-C), fasting C-Peptide ,and fasting insulin level Furthermore insulin resistance parameters calculated from Homeostasis Model Assessment 2- insulin Resistance were calculated using HOMA2-Calculator software downloaded freely .Results: The mean FPG,HbA1c, C-Peptide level, fasting insulin level ,HOMA2IR and visfatin level show statistically significantly increased in diabetic patients when compared with control subjects. Serum visfatin level was significantly increased with BMI increased groups. Visfatin level was increased in HOMA2-IR =>3 when compared with HOMA2-IR <3 in diabetic patients. Visfatin level show significant positive coorelation with BMI, WHR,FPG, HbA1c, fasting insulin level , HOMA2-IR , TC,TG,and LDL-C in diabetic patients when compared with control subjects ,and negative correlation between serum visfatin level and HDL-C in diabetic patients when compared with control subjects . Conclusion: Obesity and Insulin resistance play an important role in the pathophysiology of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Elevated visfatin level in diabetic patients with obesity features of insulin resistance are believed to result in distance clinical characteristics and complications such as atherosclerosis.

Abstract

Background: Obesity is an increasing health problem in developed countries and has grown into a major global epidemic. Recent studies suggested colonization of the stomach by Hpylori might affect gastric expression of appetite- and satiety-related hormone and patients cured of H pylori infection gained weight. Obesity and Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) are important because of the problems they lead and their frequency of occurrence. Objectives: To find out the prevalence of H. pylori infection in obese.Type of the study:A cross-sectional studyMethods: A total of 32 obese female admitted to the study. Body mass indices (BMI) of all subjects were calculated H. pylori positivity were studied. Results: The age range of the obese was (20-59) and the BMI (was 25-55 kg/m²). 26 obese (81.25%) were H pylori positive, and all obese above 45 were H pylori positive. Conclusions: Obesity and h pylori are closely associated and the prevalence of h pylori increased with obesity. We consider that H. pylori infection can be a risk factor for obesity and almost all obese patients above 45 years were sero positive. However, further studies evaluating more subjects are required. And we need to do national survey about h pylori prevalence in our community

Abstract

Obesity, defined by the World Health Organization (WHO) as “abnormal or excessive fat accumulation that may impair health .The effects of obesity on male reproduction have been less well studied than those on female reproduction, but there is a growing body of evidence suggesting that obesity has an adverse effect on male reproduction However, a little is known about the effect of obesity on male reproductive system and infertility. Infertility is defined as inability to achieve conception within one year. It has not yet been clearly established how excess adiposity relates to the biological changes that underlie male infertility, although there are several theories worth exploring. The endocrine abnormalities associated with obesity in women are well known with an increase in androgen metabolism and changing in reproductive hormones in over weight and obese men.

Abstract

Background and objective: The prevalence of obesity is rising across the world and it is regarded as a major health concern which is thought to be associated with a number of chronic illnesses including rheumatoid arthritis. This study aimed to find out the prevalence of obesity in patients with rheumatoid arthritis and to apprehend the association of obesity with disease activity and latex positivity. Methods: One hundred twenty patients with rheumatoid arthritis who were regularly visiting Rizgary Teaching Hospital in Erbil were included in a cross-sectional study using specially designed mixed questionnaire. Body mass index and waist circumferences were measured, and their association with disease activity score 28 (DAS28) and clinical disease activity index (CDAI) were estimated. Furthermore, we evaluated their association with positive latex test. Results: There was increased frequency of obesity in rheumatoid arthritis patients, and there was a positive association between body mass index and waist circumference with disease activity measured by DAS28 and CDAI (P <0.001). There was no significant association between obesity and latex positivity which has been assessed separately for males and females (P = 0.898 and 0.086, respectively). Conclusion: Obesity is frequently found in rheumatoid arthritis patients. It is associated with higher disease activity, but not with the latex positivity in these patients.
