Assessments of Self -Esteem and Stress among Babylon Medical College students

Abstract

background: medical students experience a high level of stress during their undergraduate course. High level of stress may have a negative effect on cognitive functioning and learning of students in the medical school.The objectives: to assess stress, self-esteem among medical students and some factors effect on them and the effect of stress on self -esteem.Material and method: (185) undergraduate students of medical college Babylon university that were selected randomly. A written questionnaire about some socio-demographic information, assess the stress and the self -esteem. Weight and height of the participant students was also taken.Results: (49%) of participants have normal Self-esteem and (57%) of participants have medium stresses and low level of high stress (14.8%) with no significant associations of stress with participant gender , study level and residence and with body mass index with increase in frequency of high stress in underweight students. There was significant association of Self-Esteem Scale with study level, delay in academic years and using computer and reduce level of self-esteem with increased level of stressConclusion: about half of students reported normal self -esteem with medium stress and low level of high stress during period of examination and reduce level of self-esteem with increased level of stress.

Abstract

Find aimed at identifying the psychological level of differentiation, and the level of self-esteem among college students, and to identify the nature of the relationship between the psychological differentiation and self-esteem among university students, according to the variable gender (males and females). In order to achieve the objectives of Search included a sample of (100) students and by 50 male and 50 female students from the faculties of the University of Tikrit. As the researcher to adopt the psychological differentiation prepared by the scale (Kaabi, 2007) and consists of this scale from four areas, namely (Reply emotional reaction, Alana site, cutting emotional, merging with others) and consists measure in its final form (41) items, and after extracting the truth virtual paragraphs measure amounted reliability coefficient (81), which is good. As for the variable second, a self-esteem was the researcher building measure self-esteem, which is his image initial of (35) items and after the presentation of the experts and arbitrators to extract the virtual sincerity became the measure final his image consists of (30) items and after extracting the virtual honesty paragraphs measure amounted reliability coefficient ( 80) It is a good stable. After extraction of validity and reliability of the variables, the researcher apply the scales on basic research sample, and after gathering information forms have been processing the data statistically using T. test and Pearson correlation coefficient, the researcher reached the following conclusions:1. The sample has a differentiation myself.2. There is a difference between males and females in favor of females in the psychological differentiation.3. The sample has a good level of self-esteem.4. There is a statistically significant difference between males and females in self-esteem.5. There is significant correlation between psychological differentiation reliance among university students. In light of the findings, the researcher developed a number of recommendations and suggestions.

يستهدف البحث الى التعرف على مستوى التمايز النفسي , ومستوى تقدير الذات لدى طلبة الجامعة , والتعرف على طبيعة العلاقة بين التمايز النفسي وتقدير الذات لدى طلبة الجامعة وفق متغير الجنس(ذكور واناث ) . وتحقيقا لأهداف البحث شمل البحث عينة بلغت ( 100 ) طالبا وطالبة وبواقع (50 ) طالبا و ( 50) طالبة من كليات جامعة تكريت . كما قامت الباحثة بتبني مقياس التمايز النفسي المعد من قبل (الكعبي،2007) ويتكون هذا المقياس من اربعة مجالات وهي ( رد الفعل الانفعالي، موقع الانا، القطع الانفعالي، الاندماج مع الاخرين) ويتكون المقياس بصيغته النهائية من (41) فقرة، وبعد استخراج الصدق الظاهري لفقرات المقياس بلغ معامل الثبات (81) وهو يعد جيداً . اما بالنسبة للمتغير الثاني وهو تقدير الذات فقد قامت الباحثة ببناء مقياس تقدير الذات والذي تكون بصورته الاولية من (35) فقرة وبعد عرضه للخبراء والمحكمين لاستخراج صدقه الظاهري اصبح المقياس بصورته النهائية مكون من (30) فقرة وبعد استخراج الصدق الظاهري لفقرات المقياس بلغ معامل الثبات (80) وهو يعد ثباتاً جيداً . وبعد استخراج الصدق والثبات للمتغيرين قامت الباحثة بتطبيق المقياسين على عينة البحث الاساسية، وبعد جمع استمارات المعلومات تم معالجة البيانات احصائياً باستخدام الاختبار التائي ومعامل ارتباط بيرسون، توصلت الباحثة الى النتائج التالية :1. ان عينة البحث لديها تمايز نفسي . 2. يوجد فرق بين الذكور والاناث ولصالح الاناث في التمايز النفسي . 3. ان عينة البحث لديها مستوى جيد من تقدير الذات.4. لا يوجد فرق دال احصائياً بين الذكور والاناث في تقدير الذات .5. هناك علاقة دالة بين التمايز النفسي ووتقدير الذات لدى طلبة الجامعة.وفي ضوء النتائج قامت الباحثة بوضع عدد من التوصيات والمقترحات .
