Prediction of Extraction Efficiency in Rdc Column Using Artificial Neural Network

Abstract

An application of neural network technique was introduced in modeling extraction efficiency in RDC column, based on a data bank of around 352 data points collected in the open literature. Three models were made, using back-propagation algorithm, the extraction efficiency was found to be a function of seven dimensionless groups: Weber number (we), ( ), ( ), ( ), ( ), ( ) and ( ). Statistical analysis showed that the proposed models have an average absolute error (AARE) and standard deviation (SD) of 12.23% and 10.61% for the first model, 5.35% and 6.21% for the second model, 8.34% and 7.59% for the third model. The developed correlations also show better prediction over a wide range of operating conditions, physical properties and column geometry.

Abstract

The present work studied the drop size distribution in the RTL contactor using two liquid-liquid systems, xylene-acetone-water and kerosene-acetone-water. Process variables studied were: rpm (10-50 min-1), continuous phase flow rate (4-12 l/h), dispersed phase flow rate (4-12 l/h), and concentration (0.1-0.5 mole/l). It was found that Sauter mean drop diameter (d32) decreased with increasing rpm and continuous phase flow rate, and decreasing dispersed phase flow rate and concentration. An empirical correlation, with a correlation coefficient equal to (92.6%), relating d32 with process variables was developed having the form:

تمت دراسة التوزيع الحجمي للقطرات في جهاز الملامسة الكرايسير (RTL) باستخدام منظومتى سوائل هي: الزايلين/اسيتون/ماء و الكيروسين/ اسيتون/ماء. تمت دراسة المتغيرات التالية: سرعة المزج (10-50 دقيقة-1 ، جريان الطور المستمر (4-12 لتر/ساعة)، جريان الطور المشتت ( 4-12 لتر/ساعة) و التركيز (0.1-0.5 مول/لتر). لقد تم الحصول على ما يلي:- ان معدل قطر القطرات (d32) يصغر مع زيادة سرعة المزج و جريان الطور المستمر ونقصان جريان الطور المشتت و الركيز.تم الحصول على علاقة تربط معدل قطر القطرة مع المتغيرات المذكورة اعلاه وبنسبة معامل علاقة (Correlation Coefficient) 92.6% وهي كما يلي
