Abstract

Background: Dental implants are a suitable option for the replacement of some or all missing teeth. The successfulinsertion of a biocompatible material into living tissue with little to no evidence of rejection has revolutionizedmedicine and dentistry. An increase in bone response was observed with local administration of growth hormonearound dental implants. Growth hormone may act as a bone stimulant in the placement of endosseous dentalimplants and enhances osseointegration. The aim of the study was to evaluate immunohistochemically the effect ofthe topical application of growth hormone on the osseointegration of cpTi implant.Materials and Methods: Eighty titanium screw implants were inserted in the tibia of the forty adult rabbits. Growthhormone was applied on experimental implants. Immunohistochemical tests were performed on the implants of bothcontrol and experimental groups for (3 days1, 2, and 6 weeks) healing intervals.Results: Titanium implants coated with growth hormone revealed an early bone formation, minerlization andmaturation in comparison to control. Immunohistochemical findings revealed positive expression for VEGF inexperimental implant in comparison to control one.Conclusion: Topical application of growth hormone may act as a bone stimulant in the placement of endosseousdental implants and enhances osseointegration

المقدمة: إن الغرسة السنیة ھي الطریقة المثلى لتعویضالأسنان المفقودة. إن الغرس الناجح للمواد المطابقة للجسم في داخل الأنسجة الحیة مع عدم حدوث رفضلھذه الم واد ق د اح دثثورة في الطب عامة وطب الأسنان خاصة وق د ل وحظ زی ادة ف ي اس تجابة العظ م عن د إض افة ھرم ون النم و ح ول الغرس ة الس نیة. إن ھرم ون النم و ربم ا یعم ل كمحف ز للعظ م ف ي عملی ةاستبدال الغرسان السنیة وك ذلك یحف ز تكام ل ال تعظم. الھ داف الدراس ة التقی یم النس یجي والنس یجي المن اعي الكیمی ائي لت أثیر الاس تخدام الموض عي لھرم ون النم و عل ى الان دماج العظم يباستخدام غرسة التیتانیوم.المواد والعمل: تم إدخال ثمانون غرسة من التیتانیوم في عظمة القصبة (الساق) لأربعین أرنب ناضج. تم إضافة ھرم ون النم و لغرس ات التجرب ة. اس تخدمت فحوص ات نس یجیة مناعی ةكیمیائیة اجریت لكافة الغرسات ولكلا المجموعتین التحكم والتجربة ، ولكل مراحل الالتئام ( 3 ایام ، 6 ، 2 ، 1 اسابیع).النتائج: غرسة التیتانیوم المغطاة بھرمون النمو أظھرت تم ام ون وج التك وین العظم ي ف ي مراح ل مبك رة مقارن ة بمجموع ة ال تحكم أعط ت النت ائج النس یجیة المناعی ة الكیمیائی ة إظھ ارافي غرسات التجربة بالمقارنة لغرسات التحكم. (VEGF) ایجابیا عالیا لھرمونات النمو وخصوصا لعامل النمو الوعائي البطانيالاستنتاج: ھذه الدراسة تخلصإلى الاستنتاج بان الاستخدام الموضعي لھرمون النمو یعمل كمحفز للعظم في عملیة غرسات الأسنان ویحفز عملیة تكامل التعظم

Abstract

Background: Wound healing, as a normal biological process in the human body, is achieved through four preciselyand highly programmed phases: hemostasis, inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling. Growth factors released inthe traumatized area promote cell migration into the wound area (chemotaxis), stimulate the growth of epithelialcells and fibroblasts (mitogenesis), initiate the formulation of new blood vessels (angiogenesis), and stimulate matrixformation and remodeling of the affected region. One of factors that effects on wound healing is a sex hormonesand one of these hormones is an estrogen hormone. A wide range of cutaneous cell types (eg, fibroblast,endothelial, epithelial, and inflammatory) expressed estrogen receptors, indicating potential estrogenresponsiveness.Materials and methods: Thirty two female New Zealand rabbits were used in this study. All animals wereovariectomized, and incisional wounds were done on the right (experimental for estrogen hormone application) andleft (control) sides of face for each animal, the control side was left to heal normally. Histological assessmentregarding the count of inflammatory cells was performed for healing intervals (3, 7, 10, 14 days).Results: Topical estrogen hormone application revealed enhancement of wound healing by reducing wound sizeand stimulating matrix deposition in comparison to control.Conclusion: Topical estrogen cream application results in significant progress of cutaneous wound healing, leavingno scar or crust formation and can minimize the probable wound complications

Abstract

Background: Herbal medicine can be called one of the branches of medicine in various forms. Turmericcurcuminhas proved its efficiencies a coloring, flavoring agent and has been traditionally used in medicine, exhibitingremarkable anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. The varied biological properties of curcumin and lack oftoxicity even when administered at higher doses makes it attractive to explore its use in various disorders like diseasesof skin. It is good potential agent for wound healing.Materials and methods: Sixty four new Zealand rabbits were used in this study ,they were divided into fourgroups,each group was subdivided as follows: Experimental groups(8 rabbits) right facial side of animals for essentialoil application and left facial side animals for curcumin powder application, 8 animals as control group(right facialsides) .Histological assessment regarding the count of inflammatory cells was performedon all studied samples for thehealing intervals (3, 7, 10, and14 days).Results: Histological findings of the study showed that re-epithelialization, wound contraction were accelerated aftertopical application of curcumin material especially the essential oil at wound site.Conclusion: Topical application of curcumin essential oil was significantly effective in skin wound healing ascompared to curcumin powder

Abstract

Background: The restoration of bone continuity and bone union are complex processes, and their success is determined by the effectiveness of osteosynthesis. The use of plants for healing purposes predates human history and forms the source of current modern medicineThe aim of this study: It was histological evaluation of effect of topical application of flavonoid on healing of induced bone defect in rabbit tibia.Material and method: Twenty-four Adult New Zealand rabbits used in this study, they were divided into four groups for the healing periods (3days, 1,2, and 4weeks) Two holes were induced in rabbit tibia one on the left side and has been left to heal normally as control. While, the other hole made on the right side filled with flavonoid extract regarded as experimental. Sacrificing of the animals were done according to the healing periods. Routine processing and sectioning technique was performed for histological and histomorphometric evaluation.Results: Histological findings revealed that progression of bone healing process was accelerated after flavonoid application as shown by examination of histological sections and results of statistical analysis that indicated increase of mean count difference of cells between control and experimental groups obviously noticed at early healing durations. Histomorphometric analysis for all bone parameters examined in this study, showed increase in mean count difference while bone marrow space decreased.Conclusion: The study revealed that topical application of flavonoid was effective in promoting bone healing process

Abstract

Background: Improved glucose level control with insulin injections have allowed for the diabetic population to livelonger and healthier lives. Unfortunately diabetes remains a worldwide epidemic disease with multiple healthimplications. Specifically, its effects upon fracture healing are compromised in diabetics with as high as 87% recoverydelay relative to “healthy” counterparts. Current medical treatments for bone injuries have been largely focused onreplacing the lost bone with allogenic or autogenous bone grafts, beta-tricalcium phosphate (β -TCP), a ceramicalloplast, has interconnected system of micropores, has been widely used as a biologically safe osteoconductivebone substitute. The aim of this study was histological evaluation of effect of topical application of β –TCP on bonehealing of diabetic rabbit.Materials and methods: Sixty New Zealand rabbits used in this study were divided into three groups for four healingintervals the experimental groups were: 1-Control group(C).2-Diabetic rabbits received insulin treatment regardedas controlled diabetes mellitus (CDM)group.3-Diabetic rabbits did not receive any treatment regarded asuncontrolled diabetes mellitus (UDM)group. All animals subjected to surgical operation in right tibia, creating bonedefect 3mm in depth and 4mm in diameter filled with β-Tricalcium Phosphate. Animals' scarifications were done in 5day, 2, 4 and 6 weeks durations. Routine processing and sectioning technique was performed for histologicalevaluation.Results: Histological findings indicated that bone defects in control(C) and controlled diabetes mellitus (CDM) groupsshowed early bone formation, mineralization and maturation in comparison to healing of uncontrolled diabetesmellitus (UDM) group. Histomorphometric analysis for all bone parameters examined in this study, showed variation insignificance among all groups in different durations.Conclusion: The study revealed that application of β-TCP was more effective in enhancement of bone regenerationand in acceleration of bone healing process in controlled diabetes as compared to the uncontrolled one.
