Abstract

The corrosion inhibition characteristics of Carnosine (2-(3-aminopropanamido)-3-(1H-imidazol-5-yl) propanoic acid) in corrosive solution for mild steel have been investigated at 30ºC through gravimetrical technique namely Weight loss method. The morphology study of mild steel with and without Carnosine to impedance the corrosion for mild steel in 1.0 M hydrochloric acid has been figured, utilizing with scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results show that the investigated Carnosine might be an excellent corrosion inhibitor with enhanced inhibition efficiency of 91%. The inhibition effectiveness of the Carnosine raising with increase of Carnosine concentrations, and decreases with increasing of temperature corrosion solution.[DOI: 10.22401/JNUS.21.3.10]

Abstract

Environmental pollution is a worldwide issue that affects the human being health, water pollution is one of the causes of this phenomenon. Dyes represent the raw materials in many industries such as textile, paper, plastic and leather industries as well as they considered as toxic water pollutants. The adsorption method is one of the most effective methods for removing dyes from polluted water. In this search, ecofriendly food waste (eggshell) was used as an adsorbent for removing methylene blue dye (MB) from waste water. In this research, eggshell morphology was studied using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Energy-Dispersive X-ray (EDX). The stability of the eggshell adsorbent was tested by Thermal Gravimetric Analysis (TGA). Whereas checking with various MB dye concentration for eggshell the maximum adsorption was noticed at (8ppm) and this concentration was used for further optimization. MB solutions was prepared at pH 7.2 and at 21℃ same conditions as in Tigris River water which was used to compare the activity of the eggshells adsorbent using analytical standard MB solutions and on the other hand using real sample solutions. The results show that using eggshells adsorbent with standards solution and real sample solutions of MB provide the same general trends with respect to MB removal. Consequently, using eggshell as an ecofriendly adsorbent was successfully tested to be used with both MB analytical standard solutions and real river MB solutions.

Abstract

The photochemistry of chelate complex 2-(6-methoxynaphthalen-2-yl) propanoic acid iron (III) Fe(L)3 was studied in three polar aprotic solvents: Dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), Dimethyl form amide (DMF), Acetone (Ac). Monochromatic light of wavelength 311 nm was utilized for the irradiation-process at 25oC. UV-VIS changes demonstrated an intraoxidation-reduction response happening amid the photolysis of Fe(L)3 complex, with homolytic scission of Fe-L bond. Quantum yield (Qd), rate of photodecomposition and reactivity proportion (k2/k-1) was resolved in every used solvent. These values dependably increment as polarity of the solvent increments and take after the order: DMSO > DMF > Ac. The mechanism of photodecomposition of this complex under the connected conditions was proposed.

درست الكيمياء الضوئية لـ (معقد الحديد الثلاثي مع الليكاند ثنائي السن)(2-(6-methoxynaphthalen-2-yl) propanoic acid) في ثلاث مذيبات عضوية هي (ثنائي المثيل سلفواوكسايد وثنائي مثيل فورامايد والأسيتون). وقد استخدم ضوء أحادي وبطول موجي قدره 311 نانوميتر وبدرجة حرارة 25ºم. لقد دلت التغيرات الطيفية الحاصلة وملاحظات أخرى على حصول تفاعل أكسدة-اختزال ضمني خلال عملية التفاعل الضوئي للمعقد (Fe(L)3) مع انفصام متجانس للآصرة (Fe-L). لقد تم حساب الناتج الكمي (Qd) وسرعة التفكك الضوئي ونسبة الفعالية (k2/k-1) في كل مذيب من المذيبات المستخدمة ووجد ان هذه القيم تزداد بزيادة قطبية المذيب ووفق الترتيب الآتي: DMSO > DMF > Ac وفقا للنتائج العملية المستحصلة، تم اقتراح ميكانيكية التفكك الضوئي لمعقد الحديد الثلاثي.

Uv-visible spectral changes indicates an intra oxidation-reduction reaction occuring during the photolysis of Cr(L)3 complex, with homolytic scission of Cr-L bond. The quantum yield (d), rate of photodecomption and reactivity ratio (k2/k-1) were determined in each solvent. These values always increase as the polarity of the solvent increases and follow the order: DMSO > DMF > AC . Mechanism of photodecomposition of this complex under the applied conditions was proposed.
