Radiation Study of Selected Biological Samples in Some Governorates of Iraq by using germanium detector

Abstract

The aim of the present work is to measure the specific activities of radionuclides in cancerous samples of human tissues that excised from patients living in (Baghdad, Najif and Babylon) governorates, by using a new gamma-ray spectrometry system (DSA 2000) with high purity germanium detector, which has (50%) efficiency and resolution of (511 keV) at gamma line (1274 keV) of the radioactive source (Na-22). The radioactive elements (radionuclides) (Cs-137) and (K-40) were detected in all samples in the range (0.019-4.46 Bq/kg) and (47.08-135.38 Bq/kg) respectively, with the (womb,lung,colon) tissues having the highest specific activity of (85.36 Bq/kg , 135.38 Bq/kg and 108.66 Bq/kg) respectively of (K-40) radioactive element in Baghdad governorate. The highest number of radioactive elements (five radioactive elements) were found in lung and colon tissues in Baghdad governorate, while the lowest number of radioactive elements (two radioactive elements) were found in womb tissue in Babylon governorate.

يستهدف البحث حساب الفعالية النوعية للنويدات المشعة في الأنسجة البشرية المسرطنة التي تم استئصالها من مرضى في محافظات ( بغداد ,النجف ,بابل) باستخدام منظومة مطياف أشعة كاما نوع (DSA-2000) الحديث مع كاشف الجرمانيوم عالي النقاوة (HPGe) ذي كفاءة (50 %) وقدرة تحليل(2.2 keV) بالنسبة للطاقة (511 keV) و(1274 keV) للمصدر المشع (Na-22) .وجد العنصرين المشعين (النواتين المشعتين) (Cs-137) و (K-40) في جميع العينات المنتخبة بفعالية نوعية تراوحت بين (0.019- 4.46 Bq/kg) و(47.08 -135.38 Bq/kg)على التوالي , كذلك وجد ان أعلى فاعلية نوعية لنسيج الرحم(85.36 Bq/kg) , ونسيج الرئة135.38 Bq/kg) ) ,ونسيج القولون (108.66 Bq/kg) كان في محافظة بغداد والتابعة للعنصر المشع (K-40) .أعلى عدد من العناصر المشعة (خمسة عناصر مشعة) وجدت في نسيج الرئة والقولون في محافظة بغداد, بينما اقل عدد من العناصر المشعة (عنصرين مشعين) وجدت في نسيج الرحم في محافظة بابل .

Abstract

It is found silver nanoparticles have strong antibacterial activity due to use in medical applications. It can be tuned antibacterial activity through control the shape and size of the synthesized silver nanoparticles. This article, silver nanoparticles were produced as different sizes at different reaction temperatures by chemical reaction method. Morphology and structure have been characterized by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and UV-Visible Spectroscopy. Results indicate that silver nanoparticles have different sizes in range of (30- 97.26 nm). Additionally, antibacterial activity test against the pathogens, namely Escherichia colis hows effective inhibitory activity.
