The relationship between the dental caries and the blood glucose level among type II non insulin dependent diabetic patients

Abstract

Background: Diabetes mellitus is one of the most common chronic diseases in the general population that effects theoral cavity so the probability of detecting an increased of dental caries in diabetic patients is more controversial. Theaims of this study to compare the dental caries among the diabetic and non diabetic patients and its relation withthe blood glucose level, medical history and oral health behaviors among type II non-insulin dependent diabeticmellitus patients.Materials and methods: The samples were composed of 180 subjects of diabetic patients and 180 subjects of nondiabetes. Both gender and age range 40 -70 years for both groups. The data were gathered by questionnaire,clinical examination and laboratory investigations included frequency of oral hygiene practices, caries experienceusing the DMFT Index, blood glucose including the fasting blood glucose level, and random blood glucose level.Independent t-test, Chi-square, correlation coefficient, as well as Z-proportion tests were used for statisticalcomparisons.Results: It indicated that there was no significant difference in DMFT between the diabetic and non-diabetic groups.In addition to blood glucose level was higher in diabetes than non diabetes with increased dental caries with theincrease of blood glucose level either random or fasting blood glucose level.Conclusion: This study indicated that the presence of dental caries is not significantly elevated in most diabetics butthe blood glucose level and the age effect on the dental caries as well as diabetic subjects should improve their oralhygiene practices

Changes in the Transverse Strength of Heat-Cured Acrylic Denture Base by Using Diodes Laser as Surface Treatment

Abstract

Transverse test is considered to be appropriate for polymericdental materials since compression and tension stresses arecorrelated to specific fractures that occur during flexural load. Sothe aim of the study is to evaluate the transverse strength of heatcured acrylic denture base material by using different surfacetreatment by laser treatment with diodes laser and air-abrasionAL2O3. The 60 specimens of heat cured acrylic denture basematerial were prepared for this study. They were divided into threegroups according to type of the surface treatment and as follows:first group without any treatment (control group), second group istreated with air-abrasion (AL2O3). While third group is treatedwith Diodes laser, then each group subdivided into two groupsaccording to addition of the soft liner: group a: specimens madefrom heat cured acrylic and soft liner, while group b: specimensmade from heat cured acrylic only, each group consisted from 10specimens. The results showed lowest mean values of thetransverse strength for the control group than the specimens withAL2O3 group, and the highest mean values of diodes laser groupbut statically there was non-significant difference between thegroups. In addition the mean values transverse strength of the softliner bonded to the heat cured acrylic were higher mean than thosewithout soft liner groups. Within the limitation of this study,there was no change in the transverse strength of the heat curedacrylic by using the diodes laser and air-abrasion AL2O3 surfacetreatment.

Effect of The CO2 Laser as Surface Treatment on The Bond Strength of Heat Cured Soft Liner to The High Impact Acrylic Denture Base Material

Abstract

Background: Soft liner material is become important in dental prosthetic treatment. They are applied to the surface of the dentures to achieve more equal force distribution , reduce localized pressure and improve denture retention by engaging undercut . So the aim of the study is to evaluate the effect of different surface treatment by air-abrasion AL2O3 and laser treatment with CO2 laser on improving the shear bond strength of the denture liner to acrylic denture base material .Materials and methods: the 30 specimens of heat cured acrylic denture base material (high Impact acrylic )and heat cured soft liner (Vertex ,Nether Lands )were prepared for this study .They were designed and divided according to type of the surface treatment 10 specimens for each group and as follows :Group I without any treatment (control group ), Group II was treated with air-abrasion (AL2O3). While group III was treated with CO2 laser which has continuous pulses with wave length(10.6) micro-meter for (15) seconds .Results: The results revealed that lowest mean values in shear bond strength the specimens treated with AL2O3 (0.498 N/mm2)and control group (0.569 N/mm2)and the highest mean values for the specimens treated with CO2 laser (0.648 N/mm2) .Conclusion: within the limitation of this study ,CO2 laser surface treatment of the heat cure acrylic denture resin with soft liner material resulted in highly significantly increased in shear bond strength values than control and AL2O3

Abstract

Abstract Objective: This study was oriented to evaluate the effect of different laser surface treatment designs on improving the shear bond strength of the flexible resin to cobalt chromium denture base. Materials and methods: 30 specimens of flexible resin bonded into cobalt chromium denture base material were prepared for this study. They were divided according to the type of surface treatment as follow: Group I without any treatment (control group), Group II was treated with laser in line design. While Group III was treated with laser in a mesh design. The shear bond strength was measured using the Instron testing machine. Results: The results revealed that the highest mean values for the specimens treated with laser in mesh design while lowest mean values for the specimens of laser treated with line design and control group. Data analysis was done using one-way ANOVA and LSD-test at a significant level (p-value ˂0.05). Conclusion: within the limitation of this study, mesh laser surface treatment of CobaltChromium was improved the bond strength.

الهدف: تم توجيه هذه الدراسة لتقييم تأثير تصاميم مختلفه من المعاملة بالليزرعلى تحسين قوه الربط القصي من الراتنج المرن لقاعده طقم الاسنان الكروم كوبالتالمواد والطرق: تم تحضير 30عينه من الراتنج المرن المرتبط بقاعدة طقم الاسنان الكروم كوبالت في هذه الدراسة. تم تقسيمها حسب نوع المعاملة السطحية على النحو التالي: المجموعة الأولى دون أي معامله (المجموعة الضابطة)، المجموعة الثانية عوملت بالليزر بشكل خطوط. بينما المجموعة الثالثة عوملت بالليزر بشكل شبكه. تم قيا س قوه القص باستخدام ماكنه الاختبار Instron.النتائج: كشفت النتيجة ان اعلى معدلات القيم للعينات المعاملة بالليزر بشكل شبكه بينما أدنى القيم كانت للعينات المعاملة بالليزر بشكل خطوط والعينات الضابطة. تم تحليل البيانات باستخدام اختبار one –way ANOVA واختبار LSDبمستوى معنويه 0.005)> (P-valueالاستنتاج: في حدود هذه الدراسة معامله الكروم كوبالت بالليزر بشكل شبكه يحسن من قوة الربط.
