Abstract

This study was done to test the effect of human colostrums on Entamoeba histolytica trophozoite in culture media. Concentration of 5%, 10%, 15% and 20% of human colostrums were added to liver infusion agar containing E. histolytica trophozoites then incubated at 37ºC for (60, 120, 180, 240 and 300) minutes. At the end of incubation periods the number of trophozoites was recorded, the results showed an inhibitory effect of human colostrums on E. histolytica trophozoites especially in high concentration which resulted in killing all trophozoites in culture media.

Abstract

Giardia lamblia is a parasite that causes giardiasis in humans and other mammals. The common treatment includes different classes of drugs, which were described to produce unpleasant side effects. Zingiber officinale (Ginger) is a plant that is frequently used in the popular medicine to treat gastrointestinal symptoms. So, we examined the effects of watery extracts against G. lamblia on the basis of killed trophozoite number, The antigiardial activity of Zingiber officinale were demonstrated using experimental infections of Giardia lamblia in balb/c mice. the extract of Zingiber officinale was more active specially when mixed with honey, so the percentage of dead trophozoite reach to 97.7 %. This study recommend to utilization of the mixture of ginger with honey as antigiardial drugs.

يسبب طفيلي الجيارديا اللامبيلية داء الجيارديا في الإنسان وبقية الثديات و يتضمن علاجــه استخدام العديد من العقاقير الكيميائية ذات التأثيرات غير المرغوب بها. يستخدم نبات الزنجبيل لمعالجة الإصابات المعدية المعوية، لذلك تم اختبار تأثير المستخلص المائي لنبات الزنجبيل على طفيلي الجيارديا اللامبيلية بالاعتماد على أعداد الأطوار المتغذية المقتولة في الفئران البيض المختبرية .تبين ان مستخلص نبات الزنجبيل فعالا وخصوصا عندما يمزج مع العسل، حيث بلغت نسبة قتل الأطوار المتغذية للطفيلي 97.7%. من خلال نتائج هذه الدراسة نوصي باستخدام مزيج الزنجبيل مع العسل كعقار مضاد للجيارديا اللامبيلية.

Abstract

Toxoplasmosis, an infection caused by Toxoplasma gondii, is generally asymptomatic or is associated with mild, non-specific clinical manifestations in immunocompetent patients. The present study consider the first trial in Babylon province to detection of toxoplasmosis among healthy university and secondary students, from February to May 2015, collect 112 blood sample from healthy apparently students. The results of serological test revealed that 57/112 (50.8%) was positive for T. gondii in LAT test, (25%) for university students and (25.8%) for secondary students, there isa significant difference (p≤ 0.05) between male (27.6%) and female (23.2%) in toxoplasmosis infection, where as 21.4% was positive for ELISA in which 13.8% positive for IgG antibodies and 8.0% positive for IgM, while nPCR results showed 19 out of 112(16.9%) was positive to toxoplasmosis. The presence of T. gondii antibodies in the serum regarded as the important criterion for the diagnosis of toxoplasmosis but these methods insufficient to diagnosis, it must be combine with molecular methods such as polymerase chain reaction which detect T. gondii DNA in five or ten parasites are present in blood.

Abstract

In this work , cysteine proteinase produced by Entamoeba histolytica trophozoite had been detected. The isolated enzyme had been immobilized by using calcium alginate, and compaired between free enzyme (mobile) and immobilized enzyme through differente range of pH and tempreture. We found that immobilized enzyme remains with its enzymatic activity through changing in pH level and temprature in compairion with free enzyme.
