Abstract

The power losses in distribution system are high, which form 70 – 80% of total transmission and distribution losses. High losses have severe impact on stability, reliability as well as economy. Therefore, minimization of these losses is very necessary. In this paper proposed various schemes to reduce the active power losses in distribution network, given as:- Optimum reconfiguration network,- Optimum Distributed Generation (DG) placement and- Optimum reconfiguration with optimum (DG) placement.Using Cymdist software to implement the optimal reconfiguration algorithm and proposed Genetic Algorithm (GA) to find the size and location, which programmed under MATLAB software package. Whereon the proposed methodology (GA) simplifies the problem by dividing it in two phases, namely Placement Planning Model (PPM) and Size Planning Model (SPM) thereby reducing the search space. It was the integration of the two methods were used after each method individually to obtain minimum real power losses with better bus voltage (better efficiency for network).To verify the proposed algorithms, IEEE 33-bus system and al – jihad neighborhood distribution system (Baghdad distribution sector) are tested. The simulation results are compared with proposed works in literature.

Abstract

: In this work, A STATCOM of 12-pulse two levels is used to regulate the bus voltage at specific bus bar under many cases of abnormal conditions like load and source disturbances. The proposed system consists of a single machine, transmission line and load. The compensation process are performed and compared between the two suggested control methods, first, the conventional control by using PI controller only which is used to improve the voltage profile. Second, the adapting controller uses self-tuning fuzzy PI controller for improving the voltage profile. At the time of disturbance gets occurrence, the PI controller must change its parameters to recover the voltage profile into the stable state at the disturbance moment. The simulation results show the improvements of voltage profile for both two types and then compare them. The improvement of voltage profile using adaptation method is less over shoot and attains a steady state faster than the conventional PI when the system is subjected under many disturbances. The results of the harmonic effect show low values of total harmonic distortion (THD) of supply voltage and current. Moreover, it is acceptable with IEEE standards because a new technique of Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation (SPWM) is used.

تم في هذا البحث استخدام معوض تزامني ساكن (STATCOM ) ذو 12 نبضة ثنائي المستوى وذلك لتنظيم الفولتية عند احد القضبان العمومية في الحالات الغير طبيعية كما في اضطراب الحمل واضطراب المصدر. يتكون نظام القدرة المقترح من مولد واحد وخط نقل و حمل. تتم عملية التعويض والمقارنة بين طريقتين مقترحتين للسيطرة, الاولى, باستخدام السيطرة التقليدية عن طريق استخدام المسيطر (التناسبي- التكاملي) لتحسين الفولتية, الثانية, بأستخدام السيطرة التكيفية ذاتية التنغيم بواسطة المنطق المضبب لتحسين الفولتية. في لحظة حصول الاضطراب يحتاج المسيطر (التناسبي- التكاملي) الى تغيير في معاملاته وذلك لتحسين وتنظيم فولتية العمومي وارجاعها الى قيمتها المستقرة. بينت نتائج التمثيل تحسن في قيمة الفولتية لكلا الحالتين و بالمقارنة بينهم. تعزيز استقرارية الفولتية بأستخدام طريقة التكييف يكول اقل تجاوز للحد ويصل للحالة المستقرة اسرع من الطريقة التقليدية باستخدام المسيطر(التناسبي –التكاملي) . النتائج المستحصله من تأثير التوافقيات اظهرت قيم قليلة لنسبة تشوه التوافقيات الكلي (THD%) للفولتية والتيار بالاضافة الى مقبوليتها ضمن معايير IEEE وذلك بسبب استخدام تقنية تعديل عرض النبضة الجيبي (SPWM ).

Abstract

Preliminary studies on Iraqi power system show a significant increase in the short circuit level at some of the grid substations and some power stations. This increasing results from the growth of the power generation and transmission systems in size and complexity. Islanding or splitting is dividing the power system into several islands inorder to reduce short circuit levels and avoiding blackouts. The main islanding problem is determining the location of proper splitting points and load balance and satisfaction of transmission capacity constraints for each islands.This paper mainly introduces new proposed splitting strategies of large-scale power systems by using (PSS™E version 30.3 PACKAGE PROGRAME), such that, make re-interconnection of 400KV super high voltage substation based on three-phase load flow to be minimum flow at splitting point and infeed fault current details method to control short circuit levels in Iraq power system without islanding the power system into isolated islands. Controlled islanding or splitting scheme is frequently considered as the final solution to avoid blackouts of power system.Simulation IEEE-25 bus and Iraqi power system used as the test systems for this method. Furthermore, simulation results show significant effectiveness on reducing short circuit levels with same time give stable splitting islands with same frequency for preventing the system blackouts.

Abstract

Electrical power systems are different in their sizes because of their amount ofgeneration power stations, substations, transmission lines and loads. Therefore, thesefactors may impact on short circuit levels values. Capacity of power stations and dummytransmission lines in Extra high voltage grid (400kV) of the Iraqi Electrical power gridscause high short circuit levels values such that exceed both rating of the peak and breakingcapacity of switchgear equipment's. Reduction of short-circuit levels by using Fast-actingFlexible Alternating Current Transmission Systems (FACTS) types devices in power gridsmaintain the operation of power grids with acceptable value of short circuit levels for theirelectrical equipment's and preventing cascading event outages which may lead toblackouts. This paper mainly studies strategies on how to add Short Circuit Current Limiter(SCCL) device by determining its number, value and location of connection in power gridsby programing with (PSS™E version 30.3 Package Program). IEEE 25-bus system is usedfor testing the adding series SCCL at power transmission lines method procedure. Theresults of adding series SCCL with power transmission lines give significant reducing shortcircuit levels for the stations have highest short circuit levels in order to prevent theblackouts of overall power grid.

Abstract

This paper presents a modified maximum power point tracking algorithm(Modified MPPT) for PV systems based on incremental conductance (IC)algorithm. This method verified with the dynamic irradiance and suddenchange of irradiance, the comparisons with conventional methods, forexample, the perturbation and observation (P&O) and Modifiedperturbation and observation (Modified P&O) were performed. Aphotovoltaic (PV) panel was simulated and tested usingMATLAB/Simulink based on PV panel at Power Electronics Laboratory.The results show that this method capable to find the maximum powerpoint (MPP) under dynamic behavior faster than ( P&O) and ModifiedP&O). Reduced oscillation of MPP indicates enhanced efficiency,providing maximum power transfer to load.
