Abstract

The aim of this study is to investigate experimentally the structuralbehavior of simply supported composite beams, in which a concrete slab is connected together with a steel I-beam by means of headed stud shearconnectors under the presence of web openings. Six composite beams withconstant degree of interaction were tested under central concentrated static load. One of the beams is constructed without web opening while the others contain various number, location and shape of openings. Deflection at midspan and at the ends of each opening were observed versus load. The experimental results show that the web openings decrease the strength of composite beams in the range of 19% to 24% for the tested specimens. Distinctive effects for the location, number and shape of openings took place after initiation of section yielding. Different patterns of cracks at concrete slab were observed.

Abstract

The structural behavior of three steel plate girders under shear is studied. The firstone is the reference plate girder (G) which is prepared without web openings, and thesecond one (GO) is fabricated to contain circular opening at the center of each web panel,the diameter of the opening is 60% of the web depth, while the third plate girder (GOR)is with reinforced strip welded around the circular web openings. The aspect ratio of thepanels is one and they all have the same dimensions. The experimental results obtainedfrom second and third plate girders have been compared with those obtained from thereference plate girder. The comparison indicates that the reduction in the ultimate shearload for plate girder with web opening is 51% and for the plate girder with reinforcedweb opening is 35%. Also through the experimental results, new formulas are presentedto predict the ultimate shear load of perforated steel girders with large openings.A nonlinear finite element analysis is carried out for the tested plate girders using thepackage software program (ANSYS V.11). The analytical results contain the ultimateshear capacity and Von Mises stress distribution. The results of finite element models arecompared with results of experimental tests. The difference in ultimate shear load was10%, 9% and 1.5% for plate girders GO, GOR and G, respectively. Also a parametricstudy with varying size of the reinforcement around the web openings is performed byusing the ANSYS program, and it is found that the thickness of the reinforcement striphas higher effect than its width on the ultimate shear capacity of perforated plate girder.

Abstract

The behavior of composite beams with circular web openings is described. Four composite beams comprising one control beam were tested. The perforated beams have six circular openings with various locations. Opening size was fixed (66.7% of the steel section web depth) while number of openings in each composite beam was varied. Deflections at midspan and at openings were observed. Cracking of concrete slab and behavior of each opening were explained in detail. Tests indicated that circular web opening reduced the strength of composite beams. The behavior of composite beams relatively unaffected by the presence of circular web openings up to first yield. Less effect for the inclusion of circular web openings located out of midspan. The concrete slab has limited contribution to the strength of composite beams with circular web openings.

Abstract

A three-dimensional finite element computer program ( 3DMPCP ) hasbeen developed to investigate the behaviour of prestressed reinforced concretebeams and to predict their ultimate loads. To verify the ability of this computerprogram in predicting the correct behaviour of prestressed concrete beams, analysisof a simply supported prestressed reinforced concrete tee beam was carried out.The beam section is 1.12 m deep, 2.44 m flange width and it is designed for a spanof 32.3 m from support to support. The test load, 0.85(1.4 DL. + 1.7 LL.), wasapplied to the beam and flexural cracks were observed at midspan. The finiteelement analysis has indicated that numerical load-central deflection curveobtained is in good agreement with the experimental one. The analysis also givesthe expectation for the ultimate load value. Distribution of concrete normal stressthroughout a cross section and along the beam, at different stages of loading , arepresented

3 ) المتخصص باستخدام DMPCP ) في هذه الدراسه تم تطوير برتامج الحاسوبطريقه العناصر المحدده للتحليل اللاخطي للاعضاء الخرسانيه المسلحه المسبقه الجهد . ولبرهنه قدره هذا البرنامج على التوقع الصحيح لتصرف هذه الاعضاء اثناء التحميل , فقد تم استخدام البرنامج في تحليل عتبه خرسانيه مسبقه الجهد معرضه للانحناء . ان هذه العتبه كانت بطول له عمق كلي مقداره 1،12 م وعرض شفه بمقدار 2،44 م. T 32،3 م و بمقطع على شكل حرف ان الحمل المسلط على العتبه كان بمقدار 85 ٪ من مجموع الاحمال المعامله الميته و الحيه .ولقد لوحظ ظهور التشققات الناتجه عن الانحناء في وسط العتبه ,عند بلوغ نهايه التحميل.التحليل الذي اجري للعتبه باستخدام طريقه العناصر المحدده أظهران منحني الاحمال - الانحراف الوسطي للعتبه الذي تم الحصول عليه ,هو في توافق جيد مع ذلك الذي تم الحصول عليه من الفحص المختبري. كذلك فان التحليل يعطى توقع لقيمه الحمل الاقصى للعتبه.وفي هذا البحث عرض توزيع الاجهادات الخرسانيه على كامل عمق المقطع العرضي للعتبه وكذلك على الامتداد الطولي لها ,وعند مختلف مراحل التحميل.

Abstract

The structural behavior of perforated composite web plate girders under shear loading is studied. Five steel plate girders have been tested. Two of them are reference girders, not perforated and perforated. The perforated webs in the three other girders are strengthened with carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) laminates in different patterns. The diameter of the central circle opening is 300 mm, where is 60% of the web depth. It is found from the experimental work that the ultimate shear load for the perforated composite web plate girder is higher than the reference perforated girder in a range of 100% to 134% depending on the orientation of the fiber in CFRP laminates. Through the experimental results, new formulas are presented to predict the ultimate shear load of perforated strengthened steel girders by CFRP laminates. A nonlinear finite element analysis is carried out for the tested plate girders using the package software program (ANSYS V.14.5). The analytical results contain the distribution of VonMises stresses, which is useful to have a better understanding to the results obtained from the experimental tests.

في هذا البحث يدرس السلوك الأنشائي للعوارض اللوحية المثقبة الوترة والمدعمة تحت أحمال القص. خمسة عوارض لوحية فولاذية تم أختبارها. أثنان منها عوارض مرجعية, غير مثقبة ومثقبة.الوترات المثقبة في العوارض الثلاثة الأخرى تقوى بصفائح ألياف الكاربون البوليمرية المسلحة بعدة طرق. قطر الفتحة الدائرية في الوترة هو 300mm اي مايساوي 60% من عمق الوترة. من التجارب العملية وجد أن الحمل الأقصى لقوى القص للعارضة اللوحية المثقبة والمدعمة الوترة أعلى من العارضة المثقبة المرجعية بمعدل من 100% الى 134% بالأعتماد على أتجاه الألياف في صفائح ألياف الكاربون. تم أستنتاج من خلال النتائج العملية معادلات جديدة لمعرفة الحمل الأقصى لقوى القص للعوارض الفولاذية المثقبة والمقواة بصفائح الياف الكاربون.تم أستعمال التحليل اللاخطي بواسطة العناصر المحددة للعوارض اللوحية المفحوصة بأستخدام البرنامج الجاهز ANSYS v.14.5 .النتائج التحليلية تتضمن ق توزيع الأجهادات Von Mises التي كانت مفيدة في فهم افضل للنتائج المستحصلة من الجانب العملي.
