Abstract

In the present work, the influence of thermal oxidation (TO) process on the micro-hardness and wear performances of a pure titanium (Ti) was studied. The process has been carried out at various values of temperature for determined time followed by furnace cooling to room temperature. The TO has supported the development of strong surface film on the Ti without spallation. This surface structure improved the results of micro-hardness and wear compared to untreated samples.

Abstract

Copper (Cu) nanoparticles have attracted considerable attention because of their applicationsin many different fields. In this paper, Cu particles have been produced by means of a pulselaser ablation (PLA) process to ablate Cu metallic target submerged in two different mediums,water, and ethanol. The laser ablation process was occurred at energy by 900 and 700 mJ withwavelengths of 532 and 1064 nm. The UV visible spectrum was also characterized toinvestigate the optical properties. The atomic force microscope (AFM) and scanning electronmicroscope (SEM) were used to detect the nanoparticles of Cu. The results showed that the Cunanoparticles could be prepared successfully in ethanol media at both laser energies 900 and700 mJ for 532 and 1064 nm wavelength. Peak at 575 nm appeared in the U.V visible spectrumwhich indicates the formation of Cu nanoparticles. Furthermore, there is a slight chance forpreparation of Cu nanoparticles in water media owing to the incidence of Cu oxides instead ofCu nanoparticles.
