Abstract

This research is interest in increasing the strength of spot welding joint for thincommercial Aluminum by adding casting component to the welding zone in the form ofpowder. Those components are copper, manganese and magnesium which are added in adifferent percentages it appear that the strength of the spot welding has been improvedby (14.5%) when adding(0.4 grams of magnesium),(0.1 grams of manganese ) and (0.4gram of copper).The powder is added in the welding zone boundary after made a single hole with adepth of (0.375mm) and a diameter of (1mm) in the center of spot welding point.To increase the welding strength, five holes have been made with the same abovedimensions through the welding zone boundary. The percentages of additive used afterreparation the reduction of Aluminum powder.The value of shearing strength increase with a percentage of (27.3%) as comparingwith those without additive.Also, heat treatment has been done, which gave a redaction in the strength of spotwelding. It has been observed that the increase in the temperature of heat treatmentresult in decreasing in the spot strength. Welding and cooling environment have aneffect on the strength of welded specimen. Hence, air welding environment gives a goodwelding strength.

Abstract

In this research, attempt has been made to understand the effect of tool shape on the strength of aluminum alloy (AA2024-T3). Seven different tool pin profiles (straight cylindrical, threaded cylindrical, tapered cylindrical, threaded taper, triangular, hexagonal and square) with two different shoulder surfaces (flat and concave) that have been used to fabricate the joint. The effect of tool geometry on the strength of welded joints was investigated using different mechanical tests including (tensile, bending and microhardness tests). Also, a non-destructive tests including (visual and liquid penetration tests) were achieved. Microstructural characteristics during friction stir weldingprocess were studied and the welding joints were investigated using optical microscope. The best mechanical properties obtained in this research were observed in the hexagonal pin profile with concave shoulder where the maximum welding efficiencies were (89.4%) and (85.71%) in terms of ultimate tensile strength and bending force respectively. The weakness tensile strength and bending force were found in the straight cylinder pin profile with flat shoulder as compared with the other tool shapes. The hardness values are higher in the weld zone compared to that in base metal. The maximum value of hardness is observed in the nugget zone of welded sample with hexagonal pin and concave shoulder profile. A fine equiaxed grains size is formed along the parent metal grain structure.

في هذا البحث تم دراسة تأثير شكل العدة على مقاومة سبيكة المنيوم(AA2024-T3). تم استخدام سبعة اشكال لنتوء العدة لأجراء اللحام( الأسطوانة المستقيمة, الأسطوانة المسننة, اسطوانة مائلة, سن مائل, مثلث, سداسي ومربع ) مع نوعين مختلفين لسطح الكتف ( المسطح والمقوس). لدراسة تأثير شكل العدة على الملحومات استُخدِمَت اختبارات ميكانيكية مختلفة ( الشد, الانحناء والصلادة الدقيقة ). كذلك استُخدِمَت اختبارات لا اتلافيه (الفحص البصري والصبغة السائلة ). دُرِسَت خصائص البنية المجهرية للملحومات باستخدام المجهر الدقيق.احسن الخواص الميكانيكية وجدت في لحام النتوء ذو الشكل السداسي والكتف المقوس حيث اقصى كفاءة للحام هي( 89.4% و 85.71% ) لأقصى مقاومة شد وقوة انحناء على التوالي. اضعف مقاومة شد وقوة انحناء وجدت في لحام النتوء ذو الشكل الاسطوانة المستقيمة مقارنة مع بقية الأشكال. قيم الصلادة كانت عالية في منطقة اللحام مقارنة مع المعدن الأساس. اقصى قيمة للصلادة لوحظت في مركز خط اللحام للنتوء السداسي ذو الكتف المقوس. تشكلت الحبيبات البلورية الناعمة المتساوية المحاور بامتداد البنية البلورية للمعدن الأساس.

Abstract

This paper is aimed to study the effect of material type on the drawing force. Three metals are used (low carbon steel 1008 AISI, Austenitic stainless steel 304 AISI, and pure aluminum 1100), as a sheet with thickness of 0.5mm for each one, and they were cutting as a blank with 80 mm diameter, then drawn in a die with 44mm diameter to produce cup. To predict the deep drawing force by finite element method, Hill's yield criteria is used, which examines the effect of anisotropy. Two dimension axisymmetry model of deep drawing were built and analyzed by ANSYS FEM code. The results show that the drawing force for stainless steel is higher than the other two metals due to the difference in metallurgical structure. The numerical results were compared with the experimental; good agreement was found between finite element and experimental results.

Abstract

In this work, Aluminum alloy (AA2024-T3) was welded by friction stir (FSW) method using different pin profile design types; straight cylinder, threaded cylinder, tapered cylinder hexagonal, square, and threaded taper. For each type, a flat and concave shoulder was used, as well as, the welding process was single and double. The results of mechanical tests are analyzed using design of experiments method (DOE). The best and weaken mechanical properties (tensile strength, bending force and hardness) are observed when the welding is achieved by hexagonal and straight cylinder pin profile respectively. A concave shoulder gave higher mechanical properties as compared with flat shoulder. The change in welding process type presented a sensible effect. Nugget zone hardness is higher than that of base metal for all specimens. The optimum hardness result is recorded by hexagonal pin with concave shoulder profile.

في هذا البحث، تم لحام سبيكة الالمنيوم (AA2024-T3) بطريقة المزج الاحتكاكي باستخدام انواع مختلفة التصميم لشكل النتوء؛ اسطوانة مستوية, اسطوانة مسننة، اسطوانة مغزلية، سداسي، مربع ومغزل مسنن. استُخدم لكل نوع كتف مسطح ومقعر، بالاضافة الى ذلك، كانت عملية اللحام منفردة ومزدوجة. تم تحليل نتائج الاختبارات الميكانيكية بأستخدام طريقة تصميم التجارب. افضل واضعف الخواص الميكانيكية ( مقاومة الشد، قوة الانحناء والصلادة) لوحظت عندما يُنجز اللحام بأستخدام النتوء ذو الشكل السداسي والاسطواني المستوي على التوالي. اعطى الكتف المقعر اعلى الخواص الميكانيكية مقارنة مع الكتف المسطح. اعطى التغيير في نوع عملية اللحام تأثير محسوس. صلادة منطقة خط اللحام اعلى من المعدن الاساس لكافة العينات. سُجلت امثل نتيجة صلادة بإستخدام النتوء السداسي ذو الكتف المقعر.
