Abstract

The present study is conducted to determine the level of malondialdehyde (MDA) as an index of free radical induced lipid peroxidation, glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and the role of N-Acetyl-ß-D-glucosaminidase in 60 confirmed cases of urolithiasis. Significantly high level of MDA and NAG (p 0.05) with significantly low level of GPx (p 0.05) have been observed in serum of urolithiasis patients as compared to normal controls. There have been no correlation between the level of MDA and neither GPx nor NAG in serum of urolithiasis patients, and no correlation between serum NAG and GPx (p>0.05). There has been no difference between male and female in the levels of serum MDA, GPx and NAG. In conclusion, it appears that a role of lipid peroxidation and oxidative function exist in the pathogenesis of urolithiasis, also the serum NAG has a role in urolithiais, but the exact mechanism is unknown.

Abstract

The current study is conducted to determine the level of malondialdehyde (MDA) as an index of free radicals induced lipid peroxidation and catalase as an index of antioxidant enzyme in the serum of patients with urolithiasis. Significantly high level of MDA (p < 0.05) and significantly low level of catalase (p < 0.05) were observed in the serum of urolithiasis patients as compared to normal controls. There was no difference in serum level of MDA and CAT between male and female neither in patients nor controls. Also, there were no correlation between the serum MDA and serum CAT in both patients and controls. Among patients, 21.7% were smokers. There was no significant difference between smokers and non smokers patients regarding serum level of MDA and CAT. In conclusion, it appears that a role of lipid peroxidation and oxidative function exists in the pathogenesis of urolithiasis, but its mechanism is unknown.

Abstract

Ischemic heart disease is one of most common diseases, and it is caused by an imbalance between the myocardial blood flow and the metabolic demand of the myocardium. Many factors were taken as diagnosis guides and to follow up heart disease patients, few studies took myeloperoxidase levels as an indicator. The present study is an attempt to confirm that serum myeloperoxidase levels are a clinical indicator to know, in advance, the pathology of the heart disease. The Statistical analysis revealed that there is a highly significant difference in the total serum MPO-IgG between IHD patients and those enrolled in the control group; in addition, there is a positive correlation between MPO-IgG and the patients' age.

Abstract

The concentration of antioxidant such as glutathione, high densitylipoprotein (HDL) were measured to assay the oxidative stress associated with Diabetes millitus(DM) compared with healthy controls, Glutathione was found to be reduced when compared with those of healthy controls, this depletion in antioxidant concentration may be due to their protective role against oxidative stress. The other finding is that Diabetes has lower HDL levels, but higher in low density lipoprotein(LDL), very low lipoprotein(vLDL), total Cholesterol(tCH) and Triglycerides(TG).

Abstract

This study included 100 patients with myocardial infraction 77 were males and 23 were females with their mean age ( 58 ± 19 years ). While the control groups consist of 45 subjects. They were chosen from medical staff and relatives who were free from signs and symptoms of coronary heart disease 38 were males and 7 were females, with their mean age (56±11 years old). Blood samples were taken from the patients 24 hours after attack and urine samples were collected from the patients in the 3rd day after attack. Blood and urine samples were gathered from the control groups for comparison. The results shows that creatine kinase , relative index micro albuminurea and serum uric acid found to be in high level compared with control as well as creatine kinase – MB . While the serum albumin found to be scientifically lower in its concentration .

Abstract

Abstract Urease was immobilized in gelatin beads. The optimum immobilization (79% activity) was observed at 4 C˚ with protein concentration of 1.0 mg/ml. the apparent optimum pH shifted from 7.5 to 6.5. Immobilized urease showed optimum activity at 60 C˚ compared with 40 C˚ for the soluble urease. The immobilized urease remained very active over long period of time and this enzyme lost about 40% of its original activity over the period of 60 days for storage at 4C compared with soluble urease which lost about 75% its activity in the same conditions. Blood urea estimation is carried out with immobilized enzyme beads compared with soluble enzyme and the beads can be used repeatedly for this purpose making it economical procedure compared to standard chemical method.

Abstract

Glutathione (GSH), Glutathione- S- transferase (GST) in patients with proved breast cancer have been estimated to find the possibility of using such parameters as a biomarker in the diagnosis of breast cancer patients compared to control. Sera of ( 100 ) breast cancer patients has been taken to estimate the levels of GSH and GST. All studied patients samples were female with mean age ( 51.16 ) years old The result of the study revealed that serum GSH concentration and GST activity decrease in breast cancer patients; however the relation between GSH concentration and GST activity is reversible. Stage II is the most common stage with breast cancer patients where there were 71 cases of stage II. The most common of age is the range age from 40-49 years old. So this study recommends the use of these bio marker for early detecting of the disease and bringing special equipment to measure it.

Abstract

This study was applied on patients having urinary bladder cancer fifty patients were chosing for this study complaining of haematuria ,and proofed to have bladder cancer by histopathological study for the biopsy taken from the bladder by cystoscopy performed under general anesthesia . In this study the type of cancer was transitional cell carcinoma of urinary bladder of different stages . In this work changes in activity of catalase as enzymatic antioxidant defense mechanism we studied in patients and control groups ,the result revealed significant decrease in patient groups compared with control. The changes in level of trace elements copper and zinc are studied in this work , the result revealed an increase level of copper and reduced level of zinc in patients groups in comparism with control groups
