Abstract

The correlation between free radicals produced by diabetic patients and non enzymatic antioxidants in addition to trace elements have been undertaken in this study to evaluate the risky of such effects on different biological parameters in such patients .The results appears in this study state that anew information have been released to consider these effects and how to neutralize it.

اوضحت هذه الدراسة العلاقة الجديدة بين االجذور الحرة الناتجة لدى مرضى السكري وبين مضادات الاكسدة غير الانزيمية من جهة والعناصر النزرة من جهة اخرى , وبذا حدد معامل الخطورة في هذه العلاقة بين المتغيرات البايولوجية والتي عن طريقها يمكن معادلة اثار الجذور الحرة.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a common health problem characterized by hyperglycemia resulted from absolute or relative decrease in insulin secretion from β-cells of the islets of Langerhans in pancreas. Diabetes mellitus is considered as a member of oxidative stress syndrome. It is associated with an imbalance between types of free radicals and scavengers system. This study is aimed to assess the oxidative stress status in patients with type 1 or 2 diabetes mellitus disease, and to explore the good free radical marker in this state.

ان داء السكري يعتبر من الامراض المعروفه بارتفاع مستوى السكر حيث يعتبر من الامراض التي تشارك في تكوين الجهد التاكسدي في جسم المريض بداء السكري وعليه فان هذه الدراسه تهدف الى توصيف مثل هذه التاثيرات وعلاقتها بمضادات الاكسده حيث دلت النتائج الى ان مثل هذه الحالات والتي تحتاج الى دراسه مفصله اخرى لامكانيه ان تكون كدالات لهذا الجهد

Abstract

An attempted has been made is in this study to show if there is any relationship between cigarettesmoking and diabetes mellitus and its comelation with enzymatic antioxidant in response to free radicalproducation. The results shows that cigarette contains on extremely high concentration of various free radicalsand a good relationship with diabetes to generate a situation to effect the enzymatic and nonenzymaticantioxidant .

Abstract

The current study had been conducted to assess the clinical significance of lipid peroxidation (malondialdehyde (MDA) concentration), (total antioxidant capacity (TAC) and superoxide dismutase (SOD), and biochemical test of [urea, creatinine (Cr), uric acid (U.A), calcium (Ca+2), potassium (K+), sodium (Na+), phosphorus (PO4-2)] in serum of urinary stone patients and also assess biochemical test of [urea, creatinine (Cr), uric acid (U.A), calcium (Ca+2), potassium (K+), sodium (Na+), phosphorus ((PO4-2) and pH] in 24 hour urine sample. Sixty patients with metabolic active urinary stones had been admitted to AL-Hilla Teaching Hospital, Urology Department during the period of November 2013 to April 2014. All patients underwent full history and physical examination including: age, gender, family history of urolithiasis, past history of recurrent stone and any current medical diseases. The urinary stones group composed of sixty patients (48 male and 12 female), the control group includes apparently healthy individuals (18 males and 12) females. A highest occurrence of urinary stones is in the age 31-40 years. The results of the present study showed non-significant difference in urea and Cr and the result showed a significantly increase in U.A. Also the study showed a significant increase in the level of Ca+2 and non-significant in the level of Na and K and a significant decrease in the level of PO4-2 .This study showed significant increase in MDA concentration and significant decrease in TAC and SOD , however showed significant increase in concentration of urea. Cr, U.A, pH, Na; and decrease in the level of Ca+2 and P and non-significant in level of K in 24 hour urine in the urinary stones group compared to the control group. In conclusion, urinary stone disease is affected by lipid peroxidation and antioxidant enzyme.

Abstract

Breast cancer (BC) is a type of malignancy appeared in breast tissue , occurs in both premenopausal and also in postmenopausal women's. Adenosine deaminase (ADA) is an enzyme participate in metabolism of purine. However, the level of adenosine deaminase increased in most cancers patients and it could be of value before and after chemotherapy. A total of 280 patient with (BC) divided in two groups, first group (n=40) women with breast cancer without chemotherapy, second group (n= 240 ) women with breast cancer with chemotherapy, this group was divided into six groups according to the doses used (1st – 6th doses). The control group (n= 40) apparently healthy women's matched with patient group. Women with (BC) have a significant higher serum level of ADA than those who are not diseased (p<0.001) and even than those who received chemotherapy (p<0.05 ).So, this lead to a conclusion that; breast cancer women have higher level of ADA . ADA level decreased upon administration of chemotherapy. The objective of this study is to assess ADA status in women's BC receiving chemotherapy treatment.

Abstract

This study describe the philosophy of Green Chemistry Principles when applied to the treatment of pineapple peels waste. Green pigments were isolated and identified from pineapple fruit peels extracts by using renewable methods like two phase system extraction (TPE) by ether: acetone at 40°C. The extract was analyzed and purified via flash column chromatography under certain condition (FCC) .The fractional components monitored with thin layer chromatography (TLC) at room temperature and identified utilizing spectroscopic analysis tools such as UV-visible, FT-IR, 1H-NMR ,13C-NMR and GC-Mass analysis .Two components of green pigments (GP) were identified .They are chlorophyll types(a) and (b) respectively.The advantages of this method include friendly environment, low cost of preparation, isolation, identification, and ease of scale detection.

Abstract

Obesity is a rapidly growing epidemic worldwide, influenced by both genetic and environmental factors. The onset of obesity is due mainly to low energy expenditure (such as from exercise) combined with high caloric intake. The study was conducted on fifty obese individuals and fifty apparently healthy control individuals; the age was between (18-60) years. Blood samples obtained from Marjan Medical City in Babylon Province. The aim of this study to evaluate the differences of oxidant malondialdehyde (MDA), antioxidantenzyme superoxide dismutase (SOD),catalase (CAT), glutathione peroxidase (GPx), insulin resistance (IR) and lipid profile in sera of adult obese individuals and the control group. The results of present study revealed a significant increase in MDA (p<0.001), blood glucose (p<0.001), insulin (p<0.001), insulin resistance (p<0.001), total cholesterol (p<0.05), TG (p<0.001), VLDL-cholesterol (p<0.001) and LDL-cholesterol (p<0.001) concentration in sera of obese individuals whencompared to those of the control group. Also this study show significant decrease in SOD (p<0.001), CAT (p<0.001), GPx (p<0.001) and HDL-C (p<0.05) concentration in sera of obese individualswhen compared to those of the control group. The study concluded that obesity is associated with increase oxidative stress. The increase of MDA concentration and decrease of SOD, CAT and GPxconcentration may contribute in the development of complications of obesity.

Abstract

Vitamin D is one of fat-soluble vitamins, considered a steroid hormone. It is regulate and responsible for improving the metabolism and absorption of calcium, iron, magnesium, zinc, and phosphate in small intestine.SHIMADZU High-Performance Liquid Chromatography was used for qualitative and quantitative estimation of vitamin D2 in aqueous extracted of Catharanthus Roseus plant; (20µl, 2.5 IU/gm) standard material of pure vitamin D2 (Ergocalciferol) injected and measured at reference conditions to fix retention time (RT), then 20µlof extracted plant sample was injected and measured at the same conditions. An intensive analysis conducted on aqueous, alcoholic extract and dry powder of plant leaves using modern and sophisticated instruments. Quantitative results from HPLC shows thatVit.D2 in drying weight of plant up to 187.840 IU/gm. Qualitative results from HPLC, UV-VIS, IR, ATR-FTIR shows match the effective groups of pure standard Vit.D2 and alcoholic extract, dry powder of C. Roseus plant.This study aimed to investigate the presence of vitamin D2 in C. Roseus, in addition to qualitative and quantitative detection in aqueous, alcoholic extract, and dry powder of plant leavesto use it in practical as a major source for Vit. D3 production in industrial scale; in order to use it in the medical, pharmaceutical and what is called alternative medicine (Herbs) fields.

Abstract

BackgroundTrace elements are essential components of biological structures, some of them play an important role as anticancer and others can be toxic at concentrations beyond those necessary for their biological functions.AimThe objective is to examine changes in serum concentration of trace elements (Cobalt (Co), Germanium (Ge), Molybdenum (Mo), Nickel (Ni) and Vanadium (V)), Mg and hematological changes in Hodgkin and Non-Hodgkin lymphoma patients receiving therapy.Materials and methodsThe study was included 25 patients with Non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) and 25 patients with Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) as compared with 50 healthy subjects. Serum concentration of trace elements are measured by flame atomic absorption spectrophotometer. The total leukocyte count (TLC), hemoglobin concentration (Hb) and packed cell volume or hematocrit (Hct) are determined.Results Statistical analysis of data demonstrated significant decrease (p<0.001) in Mg and Co concentration and (p<0.01) in Ge concentration in patients with lymphomas receiving therapy as compared with healthy adults.V and Ni concentrations are significantly increased (p<0.001) in patients with lymphomas receiving therapy as compared with healthy adults. The study shows significant decrease (p<0.05) in Hb concentration and Hct percentage in patients with lymphomas receiving chemotherapy as compared with healthy subjects. It revealed significant decrease (p<0.005) in female patients with lymphoma who receive chemotherapy. Significant decrease (p<0.001) in TLC in patients with lymphomas receiving therapy as compared with healthy adults are observed. ConclusionLymphoma patients receiving therapy are often low in Mg, Ge and Co levels while Ni and V levels are high in patients with Hodgkin and Non-Hodgkin lymphoma.There is a significant decreased in TLC in patients with Hodgkin and Non-Hodgkin lymphoma whose are receiving chemotherapy..Anemia occurred in patient with lymphomas as a side effect of chemotherapy.

تعتبر العناصر النزرة مركبات أساسية في البناء الحيوي والبعض منها يلعب دوراَ مهماً كمضادات سرطانية والبعض الآخر يمكن ان يكون له تأثير سمي بالرغم من أهميته في الفعاليات الحيوية.الهدف من الدراسة معرفة التغيرات في تراكيز العناصر النزرة (الكوبالت (Co) ، الجرمانيوم (Ge) ، الموليبدينوم (Mo) ، والنيكل (Ni) و الفاناديوم (V) ) والمغنيسيوم (Mg) وكذلك التغيرات الدموية لدى مرضى سرطان الغدد اللمفاوية الهودجكني واللاهودجكني والمتلقين للعلاج الكيمياوي.شملت الدراسة 25 مريضاً بسرطان الغدد اللمفاوية الهودجكني و25 مريضاً بسرطان الغدد اللمفاوية اللاهودجكني مقارنة مع الاصحاء (50 شخصاً). تم قياس تراكيز العناصر النزرة في مصل الدم بجهاز المطياف (flame atomic absorption spectrophotometer) كما تم قياس تركيز الهيموكلوبين (Hb) ونسبة مكداس الدم (Hct) والعدد الكلي لخلايا الدم البيض (TLC).بين التحليل الاحصائي للعينات انخفاضاً معنوياً (p<0.001) في تركيز كل من Mg و Co وانخفاضاً معنوياً (p<0.01) في تركيز Ge لمرضى سرطان الغدد اللمفاوية لكلا النوعين والمتلقين للعلاج الكيمياوي مقارنة مع الاصحاء. كما ارتفع تركيز كل من Ni و V (p<0.001) لدى المرضى في هذه الدراسة.اظهرت الدراسة انخفاضاً معنوياً (p<0.05) في تركيز الهيموكلوبين ونسبة مكداس الدم وانخفاضاً معنوياً (p<0.001) في العد الكلي لخلايا الدم البيض لدى مرضى سرطان الغدد المفاوية والمتلقين للعلاج الكيمياوي مقارنةً مع الاصحاء.الاستنتاج: غالباً ما يكون تركيز كل من العناصر Mg و Ge و Co منخفضاً في مصل دم المرضى المصابين بسرطان الغدد اللمفاوية والمتلقين للعلاج الكيمياوي بينما يرتفع تركيز كل من Ni و V في مصلهم.حصول انخفاض معنوي في العدد الكلي خلايا الدم البيض لمرضى سرطان الغدد اللمفاوية والمتلقين للعلاج الكيمياوي كما يظهر لديهم فقر دم كعارض جانبي نتيجة للغلاج الكيمياوي.

Abstract

One of the most popular disease worldwide is nephrolithiasis (kidney stone). Its distributed in many countries specially in the middle east. It may occurred due to changes in electrolytes and minerals. Trace elements are the most important cofactors that contribute in many enzymatic reactions in the body. The most common and important elements are selenium, copper and zinc. The aim of this study is estimate the concentration of the selenium, copper and zinc and compare them between healthy subjects and patients with kidney stones. The flame atomic absorption spectroscopy is the most accurate method to detect the trace elements. The study was conducted on 40 patients and 40 healthy subjects in Hilla city. The results of this study showed that the selenium and zinc levels decreased and copper increased in patients group when compared with the healthy subjects. Selenium and zinc has an inhibitory role to renal stones prevent nucleation of the stones in kidneys.
