Optimal Design of Cylinderical Ectrode Using Neural Network Modeling for Electrochemical Finishing

Abstract

The finishing operation of the electrochemical finishing technology (ECF) for tube of steel was investigated In this study. Experimental procedures included qualitative and quantitative analyses for surface roughness and material removal. Qualitative analyses utilized finishing optimization of a specific specimen in various design and operating conditions; value of gap from 0.2 to 10mm, flow rate of electrolytes from 5 to 15liter/min, finishing time from 1 to 4min and the applied voltage from 6 to 12v, to find out the value of surface roughness and material removal at each electrochemical state. From the measured material removal for each process state was used to verify the relationship with finishing time of work piece. Electrochemical finishing proves an effective method to reduce the surface roughness (Ra) from 1.6µm to 0.1µm in 4 min. Finally, the observed relationships were used to predicate the diameter of blank, tool diameter and flow rate by neural network modeling ANN which has inputs defined by the finished hole diameter, surface roughness, and finishing time. Three of hidden layers and their neurons were found by an integration procedure. The design charts observed from this study utilize the designers in predication of diameter for blank and design of electrode.

Abstract

Mechanical properties were investigated in base and friction stir linear welds of 7075 aluminum alloy. Welding tools consist of a shoulder with a pin and with-out pin. This work addresses the effects of tool geometry on tensile stress and shear strength of butt and lap welds, and comparing with base material. Also, the effects of process condition on the strength of friction stir processed material are quantitatively characterized. Compared to the butt case, the friction stir lap linear welds, with pin, leads to a 20% increase in optimized weld strength with 1000 rpm of tool revolutions and 200 mm/min of tool speed. The optimizing of operating conditions primarily leads to a 15% increase in optimized weld shear strength, with 1000 rpm of tool revolutions and 200 mm/min of tool speed.

المواصفات الميكانيكية قد درست للحام الدمج الاحتكاكي لسبيكة المنيوم 7075. عدة اللحام تكونت من حامل بوجود بروز اسطواني، وبدون بروز. هذا العمل تحرى تاثير شكل العدة على جهد المقاومة وجهد القص لحالتي اللحام التجانبي والتراكبي، والمقارنة مع المعدن الاساس. كذلك، تاثير ظروف التشغيل على مقاومة لحام الدمج الاحتكاكي قد حددت كميا. استنادا الى مقاومة حالة اللحام الخطي التجانبي ، ان لحام الدمج الاحتكاكي الخطي التراكبي بعدة ذات بروز، قد حقق زيادة مفضلة حوالي 20% في جهد المقاومة لمعدن اللحام. المفاضلة في ظروف التشغيل انتجت زيادة حوالي 15% في جهد القص لمنطقة اللحام وبدوران للعدة حوال 1000 دورة بالدقيقة وسرعة للعدة حوالي 200 مليمتر بالدقيقة.

Abstract

A mechanism of crack growth was investigated in resistance spot welds of mildsteel. The experiments in this study were designed to investigate the effects of theelectrode cap geometrieson fatigue life of the resistance spot weld specimens. Twotypes of electrode cap geometries were used. These types are 4.8 mm and 6.3 mmnose,used with the same shank in welding operations of 2mm mild steel plate. Toobtain the goal, operating factors were precisely controlled, especially the electrodeforce and welding current of spot welds, to keep the same operating conditions whilechangingthe electrode geometries. The life test results showed an improvement in thefatigue life of resistance spot welds. The increment was 30% in heavy loads and 10%in low loads based on tool geometry. The improvement in the fatigue life wasproduced by reducing the diameter of the nose in the geometry of the tool.
