Abstract

Aims: To evaluate and compare the effect of micro etcher model II on geometrical integrity of base of variable types of orthodontic brackets after etching and compared with new bracket. Materials and Methods: Twenty seven brackets were divided into three groups of nine. Group one was titanium brackets, group two was stainless steel brackets and group three was ceramic brackets. Brackets had been previously bonded to glass slide with same adhesives. All groups were carefully removed with debonding plier and again all groups cleaned from the adhesive material by microetcher and the bases of all brackets examined with stereomicroscope and compared with control group. Results: There are significant differences between the control group and reconditioning groups "stainless steel, pure tita-nium and ceramic brackets". While, the stainless steel and ceramic groups have the lower percentage of deformity in geometrical integrity. Also, the reconditioned groups showed no significant difference among them.Conclusions: This study showed that the microetcher can be used for reconditioning for all types of orthodontic bracket bases; however, minimal damaging may be occurring in orthodontic bracket. Microetcher plays a role in roughness of base of orthodontic bracket.

Relationship of Lateral Dentoskeletal Morphology to Dental Crowding in Patients With Class II Malocclusions.

Abstract

Aims: The aims of this study was to evaluate the relationship of lateral dentoskeletal morphology to the amount of dental crowding in patients with Class II malocclusion. Materials and Methods: Study models and lateral cephalometric radiographs of a Class II malocclusion of 62 Iraqi patients(18-25 years) lived in the center of Mosul City (30males and 32 females), were evaluated. The sample was divided into two groups according to severity of pretreatment mandibular crowding. Group 1 consisted of 30 patients and have crowding ≥ 3 mm. Group 2 have 32 patients and crowding <3 mm. Measurements were performed on pretreatment dental casts and lateral headfilms. Dental and skeletal (linear and angular) cephalometric measurements were used to determine the effect of these measurements on crowding. Results: Significant differences between crowding less than 3mm and crowding groups more than 3mm were seen in posterior facial height ( S-Go) , the angle between sella, nasion and occlusal plane line ( S-N-Ocp) and the angle between sella, nasion and the long axis of lower central incisor (S-NL1) in males, while in females, the significant differences were seen in the angle between sella, nasion and the long axis of lower central incisor (S-N-L1) and the angle between Sella–nasion line and mandibular plane(NS- GoMe). The other parameters showed no significant differences. The correlation coefficients of the amount of crowding with all the measurements were studied. Some of them showed a positive correlation, while others showed a negative one. Conclusions: Subjects with Class II malocclusion and different amount of dental crowding have no significantly relation with skeletal parameters. Results suggest that dental crowding is independent of the skeletal measurements.

Abstract

Aims: The purpose of this article was to present a case of surgical exposure and orthodontic reposition of impacted dilacerated maxillary left central incisor. Also surgical exposure of impacted maxillary left canine followed by orthodontic treatment of canine-lateral incisor complete transposition. result : this article describe the treatment of a teenager girl who had impactions of the maxillary left central incisor and canine as well as canine-lateral incisor transposition. The dilacerated impacted central incisor was uncovered and orthodonticaly extruded into the dental arch. Then the impacted canine was surgically exposed and orthodonticaly moving the tooth palately then distally to brought it into its normal position. Conclusion : concurrent impaction and transposition of maxillary anterior teeth is uncommon and poses a challenge for the dentist. Early diagnosis and management of eruption disturbances give us both esthetic and functional outcome benefits

A Comparative Assessment of Space Closure Utilizing by Lingual and Conventional Brackets

Abstract

AIMS:To assess the effect of system type on the amount of space closure when equal force use on each system and to compare the amount of rotation and tipping generated by lingual and conventional brackets. Materials and Methods: A mandibular typodont system with Class I wax form and set of metal teeth were used in this study. After removing the second premolar bilaterally, each tooth of the anterior teeth and canines were bonded with two bracket systems , preadjusted Roth stainless steel 0.022x0.030 inch conventional (labial) brackets (CoBS group) and lingual brackets (LiBS group) except right first premolar were bonded with lingual bracket (LIBS group) and left first premolar were bonded with labial bracket (CoBS group). Bite plane extension bar (BPB) and canine extension bar (CB) were constructed bilaterally for the measurement of first premolars tipping and rotation. A 200gm. of force applied by close coil spring to retract the first premolars bilaterally . After immersion of the typodont in water bath with 50-550 C for 5 minutes, the rate of space closure , tipping and rotation of first premolars were measured. Results: A statistical analysis (independent-samples t-test) used in this study, there was a significant difference between the two system groups (CoBS group and LiBS group). The LiBS group had a significant higher amount of tooth movement, and higher degree of rotation. For the tipping, the CoBS group had the higher level of tipping with a non-significant difference with LiBS group. Conclusions: The outcomes of this study showed that the higher rate of space closure and rotation were associated with LiBS group, while there is a nonsignificant difference in the amount of tipping between the two groups. So, Lingual appliance was appeared to be very effective method for tooth sliding during fixed orthodontic treatment.
