Abstract

A retrospective study of (96) cases of mucosal hyperplastic lesions of the oral cavity was carried out. The distribution of the lesions in relation to the age, sex, size and the site of origin was performed. The result shows that these lesions affect similar age groups except denture induced hyperplasia, which affect older age group Females were affected more than males especially for peripheral giant cell granuloma and denture induced hyperplasia, Fibro - epithelial polyp and fibrous epulis show smaller size than other types of the lesions. Majority of pyogenic granuloma and peripheral giant cell granuloma arised in the posterior part of the jaws, by contrast to other type of the lesions which show no difference in their site of origin.

Abstract

A retrospective study on (86)periapical lesions associated with non-vital anterior teeth was performed. The size of the resorbed bone caused by the lesion was measured to the nearest millimeters on the radiograph. Twenty two of the lesions were radicular cyst and the remaining (64) were granuloma or abscess. The size of the resorbed bone was related to the histological type of the lesion. It was possible to predict radicular cyst with (91.3%) accuracy before apical surgery is undertaken. In periapical granuloma or abscess, it Was possible to predict with (94%) accuracy. Therefore, selection of treatment modality whether conventional endodontic or apical surgery is possible

Abstract

One hundred and thirteen cases of periapical lesions associated with-vital anterior teeth are analysed and reported. The associated teeth were apicoectomised and the lesions were measured grossly and interpreted histopathologically. It was found that(66) out of (72) cases (91.7 %) provisionally diagnosed as periapical granuloma or chronic periapical abscess show correct diagnosis histopathologically, whereas of (41) cases provisionally diagnosed as periapicalradicular cyst only (24)(58.5%) show correct diagnosis histopathologically. It was found also that (29)periapical lesions out of (30)diagnosed histopathologicallyas periapical radicular cyst measured more than (10) mm of(83)periapical lesions diagnosed histopathologically as agranuloma or abscess,(71) measured less than1 (10) mm.

Abstract

Eleven hypertensive and nine diabetic patients under treatment with appropriate therapy show oral mucosal lesions mimic lichen planus. The clinical and histological features of the lesions were studied. Stress was made on the type and distribution of the inflammatory infiltrate seen in the histologic section of the lesions. It was found that the infiltrates show features differ from the infiltrate demonstrated in conventional lichen planus.

Abstract

In a double blind study the effect of ibuprofen and naproxen on swelling following surgical removal of impacted mandibular molar (M3) was evaluated on (48) patients. The patients were divided into three groups according to medication given for each group. The postoperative swelling at the area of surgery was measured by two methods namely, computerized photography and conventional facebow. The measurements performed at day (2) and day (7) postoperatively. The results showed that both ibuprofen and naproxen not reduced the expected swelling significantly in day (2) post-operatively comparing to control placebo group, but significant difference was noticed between the effect of ibuprofen and control group in day (7) post-operatively.

Abstract

The effect of Suprax, Clarithromycin antibiotics and brufennonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug on the postoperative swelling after apicectomy of one upper anterior teeth was evaluated on sixty eight patients suffering from chronic periapical lesion requiring apicectomy without retrograde filling. They were divided into (5) groups according to the type of medicament administered postoperatively. The patients were examined in the 2ndand 7thpostoperative day for evaluation of postoperative swelling that may occur in the upper lip after apicectomy. The evaluation has been made by measuring the lip thickness by Sliding ruler method, face bow method and computerized photographic method. The results showed that Brufen tablets proved better control for postoperative swelling, Clarithromycin tables, also produce significant reduction in the amount of swelling whereas Suprax capsules and paracetamol tablets produce no significant effect postoperative swelling compared to placebo.
