Association between Interleukin-5 & Body Mass Index among Iraqi Asthmatic Patients

Abstract

Background: Asthma is an allergic hypersensitivity disease in which many mediators play a role in its pathogenecity. One of these etiological agents is the mediators such as Interleukin-5 (IL-5). The aim of this study to demonstrate the association between IL-5 and obesity in asthma development. Materials & Methods: One hundred and four sera samples for asthma cases have been studied in comparison with 41 non-asthmatic bronchitis as a patient controls beside 30 apparently healthy controls. Cytokine has been estimated using ELISA method in correlation with Body Mass Index (BMI). Results: This study revealed a significant correlation between IL-5 concentration and BMI (P<0.05), particularly among females. Abstract


Background: Asthma is an allergic disease characterized by airway obstruction as a result of cellular accumulation due to the liberation of certain mediators. Among those mediators are the cytokines such as IL-5.
Patients & Methods: Interleukin-5 concentration has been estimated in 94 sera samples of Asthmatic patients in comparison with 41 non-asthmatic bronchitis as patient controls in addition to 30 apparent healthy control group using ELISA method.
Results & Conclusions: There is highly significant elevation of IL-5 in the asthmatic cases in comparison with healthy controls (P< 0.001). We conclude that this cytokine may play the major role in asthmatic attack & it may be a good marker for the disease.

Abstract

The miracle of the Green tea is for promote the health particularly the heart-vascular diseases has been suggested by Chinese for many years. This study revealed that there is a significant differences between the levels of total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and triglycerides before and after taking of 3 cups daily of green tea for 90 days by 52 hyper-lipidemic patients (23 female, 29male) (P< 0.01). Furthermore, this study showed a significant difference between the diastolic and systolic levels before and after 5 cups of green tea taking for 90 days by (49) hypertensive patients (23 female, 26 male) (P< 0.01). The conclusions that continuous consuming green tea enhances the health promotion by decrement of lipid profile and help good blood pressure. One cup=150 ML

إن استهلاك الشاي يرتبط بتناقص خطورة التعرض لأمراض القلب الوعائية و بالذات الشاي الأخضر.أن معجزة الشاي الأخضر هي في المحافظة على الصحة خصوصا" أمراض القلب الوعائية. أظهرت هذه الدراسة إن هناك فرقا" معنويا" بين مستوى الكولسترول الكلي, الدهون البروتينية ذات الكثافة الواطئة و الكليسيريدات الثلاثية قبل و بعد استهلاك 3 أكواب من الشاي الأخضر يوميا" لمدة (90)يوما من قبل 52مريضا"(23 اناث,29 ذكور) مصابين بفرط الشحمية (P< 0.01) . كذلك بينت هذه الدراسة إن هناك انخفاضا" معنويا " بمستوى ضغط الدم قبل و بعد استهلاك(49 ) مريضا (23 نساء, 26 رجال) مصابين بارتفاع ضغط الدم لـ 5 أكواب يوميا" من الشاي الأخضر لمدة ( 90 يوما) ,(P<0.01 ) . يستنتج من ذلك إن استهلاك الشاي الأخضر باستمرار يساعد على إدامة الصحة من خلال تقليص مستوى الشحوم في الدم و بالتالي انخفاض ضغط الدم.الكوب الواحد =150مل
