Abstract

ABSTRACT
Background: Microleakage in the gingival floor of class II composite restorations can compromise the marginal
adaptation of the filling material to the cavity edges. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of different
etching techniques on Microleakage of class II Composite filling.
Materials and methods: Sixty extracted caries-free human premolars were randomly divided into six groups
according to etching technique. In group A and B the dentin of the cavities were etched with 35% phosphoric acid
gel, in group C and D the dentin of the cavities were irradiated using a 320 μm Nd: YAG laser beam, in group E and F
the dentin surfaces were initially treated with the laser and then etched as in group A and B with 35% phosphoric
acid. Proximal class II cavities were prepared in all samples with the gingival floor one millimeter below the CEJ.
Cavities were restored according to research protocol. The samples were subjected to 2500 thermal cycles (5-55oC),
immersed in 0.5% basic fuchsine solution, embedded in epoxy resin and cut centrally. Microleakage was scored and
collected data were statistically analyzed using one way analysis of variance.
Results: More microleakage was detected in group C (p<0.05; variance analysis). The laser beam and acid-etching
showed no advantage compared to the acid-etching alone (p>0.05). Using the incremental technique significantly
decreased microleakage (P<0.02).
Conclusion: The Nd: YAG laser irradiation in cl II composite does not constitute an alternative to acid-etching. .
Samples restored with the incremental technique, and cavities etched with 35% phosphoric acid gel had the least
dye penetration and microleakage.

Abstract

Background: This study was done to assist X-ray diffraction and biocompatability of glass ionomer cement reinforcedby different ratios of Hydroxyapatite.Materials and Methods: The powder of glass ionomer cement reinforced by different ratios of Hydroxyapatite wereused to get X-ray diffraction pattern by X-ray diffraction machine, While for biocompatibility test, A polyethylenetubes containing glass ionomer cement reinforced by different ratios of Hydroxyapatite were implanted on thedorsal submucosal site of Rabbit's tissues and histological slide were prepared for histopathological study.Results: X-ray diffraction test showed that all elements of glass ionomer cement reinforced by different ratios ofHydroxyapatite were react with each other and all the final products none crystalline in nature with small amount ofHydroxyapatite present unreacted may be act as cores for final reacted elements. The histological test showed mildirritation to Rabbit's tissues by glass ionomer cement reinforced by different ratios of Hydroxyapatite, this irritationsubsided with time.Conclusions: there is chemical reaction of all elements of glass ionomer cement reinforced by different ratios ofHydroxyapatite and new final products were results .Also glass ionomer cements reinforced by different ratios ofHydroxyapatite were biocompatible with Rabbit’s tissues

Abstract

Background: Gingival recession may be due to faulty dental treatment. The aim of this study was to investigate the distribution of fixed partial dentures according to age, sex, location and type of material used in construction and discovers the influence of fixed partial denture characteristics (quality, duration, number of abutments and pontics) on frequency of gingival recession.Materials and Methods: A total of 160 patients were selected from patients attending for dental examination at college of dentistry, University of Baghdad. The subjects had cast or ceramic fixed partial denture or dentures for at least 3 years. The distributions of restoration according to age, sex, location and type of material were investigated. Number of abutments and pontics, quality and duration of restoration since worn in relation to gingival recession were evaluated.Results: Females asked more for fixed partial dentures in younger age group than males, and in upper anterior region more than other regions. The percentage of cast fixed partial denture was more than ceramic type. A higher percentage of patients had gingival recession related to restoration with poor marginal integrity and longer period since worn. A high significant difference was found between lengths of fixed partial denture and absence of gingival recession and low significant differences between quality of restoration and presence of gingival recession.Conclusion: The study concluded that fixed partial denture characteristics (quality, duration, number of abutments and pontics) had significant and high significant effects on frequency of gingival recession

Abstract

AbstructSeveral techniques are proposed for the restoration of Class V cavities but there is no agreement in the literature as to which technique is more effective. The aim of this study was to compare a one-year clinical performance of class V composites using different placement technique.Thirty-eight class V cavity preparations in identical patients were prepared. One complete unit of composite and three increments of composite were used for restoration of class V preparations. The clinical criteria consisted of post-operative sensitivity, marginal discoloration, recurrent caries and marginal adaptation that were evaluated after one year.The t-test and Chi-square Pearson were used for analysis of data (P≤0.05). There was no significant difference between the two techniques regarding post-operative sensitivity and marginal adaptation. Marginal discoloration using three increments was significantly less than that of one complete unit.There was no significant difference in post-operative sensitivity between the two techniques. Marginal discoloration using 3 increments was significantly less than that of one unit. No significant failure was observed when using any of the techniques.

Abstract

There has been a considerable effort in several fields, for objective color analysis and characterization. This paper study the problem of teeth color estimation using the most common color space in current use being the Commission International ed’ Eclairage L*a*b* parameters of the captured images were derived from Photoshop software and saved as digital shade guides. A set of ceramic teeth shade was used, Images were captured with high resolution digital camera with LED flash and the data obtained was used to calculate the L*a* and b* values, these values conventionally obtained directly from RGB space. This paper proposed a method to estimating teeth color information from acquired camera data by calculating the L*a*b*values from the device independent color space the CIEXYZ space using transformation matrix which is involve calibration and characterization parts. The results showed significant correlation between data obtained from the digital camera using calibration and characterization process with that obtained from spectrophotometer, also the result showed that the digital camera can be used for color measurements in dental clinic, where the digital imaging could be an alternative for using colorimetric or spectrophotometric methods.

هناك جهد كبير في العديد من المجالات، بهدف تحليل وتوصيف اللون. هذا البحث يقدم دراسة لمشكلة تقدير لون الأسنان باستعمال نطاق اللون الأكثر شيوعا في الاستخدام الحالي وهو متغيرات الـL*a*b* للصور التي تم التقاطها يتم اشتقاقها من برنامج فوتوشوب وحفظها كمرشد رقمي.لقد تم استخدام مرشد الأسنان السيراميكي، والتقاط الصور بكاميرا رقمية عالية الدقة مع فلاش LED وقد تم استخدام البيانات التي تم الحصول عليها لحساب قييم الـL*a*b* ، هذه القيم يتم الحصول عليها عادتا مباشرتا من الفضاء RGB. لقد اقترح هذا البحث طريقة لتخمين المعلومات اللونية للاسنان من بيانات الكاميرا بواسطة حساب قييم الـ L*a*b* من الفضاء CIEXYZ باستخدام مصفوفة التحويل التي تتضمن على معايرة وتوصيف.أظهرت النتائج ارتباط كبير بين البيانات التي تم الحصول عليها من الكاميرا الرقمية باستخدام المعايرة وعملية التوصيف مع التي تم الحصول عليها من Spectrophotometer وكذلك اظهرت النتائج امكانية استخدام الكاميرا الرقمية للقياس اللون في عيادة لطب الأسنان، حيث التصوير الرقمي يمكن أن يكون بديلا عن استخدام الأساليب اللونية أو طيفية .

A Comparative Evaluation of the Centering Ability and Canal Transportation of Simulated S-Shaped Canals Instrumented with Different Nickel –Titanium Rotary Systems

Abstract

Background: The purpose of this study was to evaluate and compare centering ability and canal transportation ofsimulated S-shaped canals instrumented with four different types of rotary nickel-titanium systems.Materials and Methods: Forty simulated S-shaped canals in resin blocks were divided into four groups of ten eachand were instrumented to an apical size 25 by different instrumentation technique using ProTaper Universal files(group A), ProTaperNext (group B), Reciproc (group C) and WaveOne (group D).Centering ability and canaltransportation was measured at (11) measuring points from D0 to D10 bysuperimposion of the pre- and postoperativeimages obtained by using digital camera in standardized manner. An assessment of the canals shape wasdetermined using Photoshop CS2 and AutoCAD software. The data were analyzed statistically using ANOVA and LSDtest.Results: In terms of centering ratio values, there was no statistically significant difference among the four groups atthe coronal portion of the canals, with ProTaper system showing the least centering ability at all levels except atapical foramen. At the apical curvature, the Reciproc and WaveOne groups showed better centering ability thanProTaperNext and the difference was statistically highly significant among them at these points, while at the coronalcurvature the ProTaperNext showed better centering ability than Reciproc and WaveOne. Canal transportation wasseen in all groups but the ProTaper systems showed more transportation values at almost levels when compared withthe other groups with the least values by ProTaperNext at the coronal curvature and the least values by Reciprocand WaveOne at the apical curvature.Conclusions: Under the conditions of this study, ProtaperNext ,WaveOne and Reciproc instruments maintained theoriginal curvature significantly better than ProTaperUniversal at almost levels. ProtaperNext showed a better shapingability than Reciproc and WaveOne at the coronal curved section while at apical curved section Reciproc andWaveOne showed a better shaping ability than ProtaperNext
