In vivo study of cherry stick effect on concentration of serum total cholesterol, triglyceride and total protein in white albino male mice

Abstract

Background: Cherry extract has a wide range of biological activity. In the present investigation, two oral doses 0.04&0.08 mg/kg/day of cherry stick (ethanol extract) in albino male mice resulted in a significant decrease in concentration of serum total cholesterol concentration, triglyceride and total protein, albumin and globulin.
Objective: we investigated the impact of biological activities of cherry stick extract on serum cholesterol, triglyceride, total protein, albumin and globulin in white albino male mice.
Design: This study include three groups of white albino male mice. The first group (G1) was a control group comprised of 5 animals. The second group (G2) consisted of 5 animals treated with 1ml of cherry stick extract at concentration of 0.04 mg/kg/day for two weeks after treatment, while the third group (G3) consists of 5 animals treated with 1ml of cherry stick extract at concentration of 0.08 mg/kg/day for two weeks with treated animals.
Results: there was a statistically significant reducing effect on serum total cholesterol, triglyceride, total protein and albumin P<0.001 at 0.04 mg/kg/day and 0.08 mg/kg/day for all biochemical parameters. Globulin was markedly decreased P< 0.01 in comparison with control but no significant change in ratio of albumin to globulin.Conclusion: Extract of cherry stick exerts at low dose a remarkable effect on serum cholesterol, triglyceride and total protein.

Determination of Plasma Osteopontin and Serum Inhibin B in Pregnant Women with Preeclampsia

Abstract

Pre-eclampsia is a multisystem disorder of pregnancy, which complicates 3%-5% of pregnancies in the world .The present study deals with estimation of levels of Osteopontin, Inhibin B, protein, albumin, globulin and Alb./Glb. ratio in forty five Pregnant Women with Preeclampsia in comparison with thirty healthy Pregnant Women. In Pregnant Women with Preeclampsia, the level of Osteopontin and Inhibin B were significantly higher as compared to the normal subjects [p<0.01]. In Pregnant Women with Preeclampsia the levels of S. calcium S.Protein and albumin were significantly decreased as compared to the normal subjects [p<0.05, p<0.05and p<0.01] respectively. Based on findings of the present study, it can be concluded that Patients with Preeclampsia had significantly higher serum inhibin B and Osteopontin concentrations compared to healthy pregnant women. In addition, the current study could not determine any links between Osteopontin levels and other biochemical markers in this study.

تسمم الحمل هو اضطراب في انظمة متعددة اثناء الحمل، مما يعقّد 3٪ - 5٪ من حالات الحمل في العالم. تضمنت الدراسة الحالية تقدير مستوى Osteopontin و Inhibin B والبروتين والألبومين والكلوبيولين وكذلك نسبة الالبومين الى الكلوبيولين في 45 من النساء الحوامل المصابات بتسمم الحمل بالمقارنة مع نساء حوامل لا يعانين من المرض. اشارت الدراسة الى زيادة معنوية في مستوى Osteopontin و Inhibin B عند النساء الحوامل المصابات بتسمم الحمل بالمقارنة مع مجموعة الضبط[p < 0.01]. لوحظ في الدراسة الحالية انخفاض معنوي في مستويات الكالسيوم والبروتين والألبومين في النساء الحوامل المصابات بتسمم الحمل بالمقارنة مع مجموعة الضبط [p<0.05 ,p<0. 01, p<0.05] على التوالي. استنادا إلى النتائج التي توصلت إليها الدراسة الحالية، يمكن الاستنتاج إلى أن المرضى الذين يعانون من تسمم الحمل كان مستوى Osteopontin و Inhibin B أعلى بكثير مقارنة بمجموعة الضبط. بالإضافة إلى ذلك لم تتوصل الدراسة الحاليـة الى وجـود علاقة بين مستويـات Osteopontin والدوال البيوكيميائية الأخرى في هذه الدراسة.
