Abstract

Alkyd resins constitute a very high proportion of conventional binders used in surface coating . A new alkyd resins were synthesized by reacting ( Bitter almond oil or Coconut oil with propylene glycol or Ethylene glycol and phthalic anhydride) in the presence of lead oxide as a catalyst. synthesis of alkyd resins, two stages were involved. At the first stage, Bitter almond oil or Coconut oil was converted to monoglycerides as a polyol by alcoholysis. Esterification process was held at the second stage by adding phthalic anhydride and xylene in the mixture. Three different alkyd resins have been synthesized (Short , medium and long) from Bitter almond oil or Coconut oil by using different ratios of phthalic anhydride .The various physic-chemical properties of alkyd resins like acid value , saponification value , iodine value Density, viscosity, chemical resistance and volatile matter were studied . The resulted alkyd resins are readily soluble in aprotic polar solvents , such as (Toluene , Acetone , Benzene , xylene , DMF, DMSO , Methanol and ethanol ) without need for heating. Thermal analysis of alkyd resins by Thermo Gravimetric Analysis (TGA) and thermal differential calorimeter (DSC) techniques. reveals that these Aromatic alkyd resins possess thermal stability. Alkyd resins were characterized by (FTIR and 1H-NMR) spectroscopies .

Abstract

In this research polymer was prepared from Alkyd resin (U-PTE) with ratio 100% the and natural rubber with ratio 30%. The mixing process was performed by hand lay-up method. Some mechanical properties were studied in this work which included (flexural bending, shear stress, Impact test (charpy method) . the results showed that the addition of natural rubber to (u-pte) resin with this ratio leads to become the brittle behavior and decrease in the shear stress increase the ability of material to impact because the blend materials become elastic .the flexural strength increase of blend two times comparing with its value of pure resin while the result of shear stress value of blend showed decreasing with ratio(43%) but the impact value of blend increased with ratio (20%) with it value before the blending.

تم في هذا البحث دراسة تأثير اضافة نسبة 30% من المطاط الطبيعي لمادة بوليمرية (راتنج الالكايد ) وتمت مقارنتها بالنتائج لاختباري متانة الانحناء واجهاد القص واختبار الصدمة بطريقة جاربي في الحالتين لنفس المادة البوليمرية النقية (بدون اضافة ) وقد تم الخلط باستخدام طريقة القولبة اليدوية ، حيث وجد إن إضافة هذا النوع من المطاط الى راتنج الألكايد بهذه النسبة يؤدي ان يصبح السلوك اقرب الى السلوك المطيليى وكذلك ان اضافة المطاط خفض من قيمة اجهاد القص وازدادت قابلية المادة الى تحمل الصدمات بسبب تحول الخليط من مادة هشه الى مادة مرنة ذو معامل مرونة أقل ومتانة أعلى ومطيلية اعلى . وسجلت قيم متانة الانحناء للخليط زيادة الضعف عن قيمتها للراتنج بمفرده وأظهرت نتائج اجهاد القص انخفاضا مقداره (43%) في حين قيمة الصدمة ازدادت بمقدار (20%) مقارنة بقيمتها الأصلية قبل الخلط.
