Neopterin as an inflammatory prognostic biomarker in male With systemic disease

Abstract

Background :The serum level of neopterin, a marker associated with cell-mediated immunity, is increased in coronary artery disease and chronic kidney disease (CKD) especially in end stage renal disease (ESRD ) and may be a risk marker for adverse outcomes resulting from these diseases. Objective: to compare the levels of neopterin in two systemic inflammatory diseases cardiovascular disease and end stage disease(CVD& ESRD) and study its correlationwith other serum parameters. Subjects & Methods: The study involved 38 male patients with ESRD and 40 male patients with CVD (age range of 30- 60 years ) .They were attending Kidney disease and Transplantation Unit and Coronary Care Unit (CCU) at Baghdad Teaching Hospital ( Medical City ) during the period from December 2012 to March 2013 with 58 healthy subjects (control group ) of matching age and weight. Fasting venous blood was obtained for glucose, lipid profile, urea and creatinine measurement which were done immediately after separation of the serum by standard routine methods. The determination of neopterin was done using Enzyme-Linked Immuno Sorbent Assay. (ELISA, Sandwich assay). Results:the results revealed a significant difference in neopterin level between each group of patients (CVD & ESRD) with its control group (45.5 ± 11.9.vs16.48± 3.09) and (95.89 ± 11.3 vs.16.66± 2.83) respectively. In addition to inverse correlation between neopterin and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) in ESRD patients (p< 0.05), and significant inverse correlation with triglyceride (TG) in CVD patients (p < 0.05). Conclusion: The most important results of this study suggest that the neopterin level, which is considered a useful marker of systemic inflammation, in ESRD patients is higher than in CVD patients.

Abstract

Carbon nanospheres (CNSs) were successfully prepared and synthesized by Catalytic Chemical Vapor Deposition (CCVD) by using camphor as carbon source only, over iron Cobalt (Fe-Co) saturated zeolite at temperature between (700 oC and 900 °C), with different concentrations of camphor, and reaction time. The synthesized CNSs were characterized using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction spectroscopy (XRD), and Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR). The carbon spheres in different sizes between 100 nm and 1000 nm were investigated. This work has done by two parts, first preparation of the metallic catalyst and second part formation CNSs by heat treatment.

تم تحضير وتركيب الكاربون النانوي بشكل كروي بنجاح بواسطة طريقة الترسيب بالبخار الكيميائي المحفز, باستعمال مادة الكافور كمصدر كاربون فقط فوق (الحديد- كوبولت) المشبع بالزيولايت في درجة حرارة بين (700 – 900) درجة مئوية, باختلاف تركيز الكافور و زمن التفاعل. ميزت ووصفت كرات الكاربون النانوية المحضرة باستعمال المجهر الالكتروني الماسح, حيود الاشعة السينية, وانتقال فورير بالاشعة تحت الحمراء, تبين ان كرات الكاربون النانوية لوحظت بمختلف الاحجام بين 100 نانومتر و 1000 نانومتر, تم هذا العمل بجزئين, الاول التحضير المعدني المحفز والجزء الثاني تشكيل او تكوين كرات الكاربون النانوية بالمعاملة الحرارية.

SERUM TESTOSTERONE AND POSTPRANDIAL LIPIDS IN RELATION TO SEXUAL DYSFUNCTION IN MALE WITH CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE

Abstract

Background:Earlier studies have suggested that total testosterone (Testo) concentrations influence lipid metabolism. Whether these concentrations are prospectively associated with an adverse lipid profile and an increased risk of incident dyslipidemia has not yet been investigated. Objective:Test the hypothesis that increased levels of postprandial triglycerides (TG) are associated with hypogonodism in male patients with cardiovascular disease (CVD).Methods:Forty male patients with CVD aged 30-60 years and 46 normal healthy controls were studied. Postprandial blood glucose, lipid profile, urea and creatinine were measured. In addition, Total testosterone, sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG), luteinizing hormone and follicle stimulating hormone were done by Enzyme-Linked Immuno-Sorbent Assay. Body mass index was calculated.Results:Negative correlation between Testo, and postprandial TG in both CVD and control groups was found with significant differences in Testo between these two groups, while SHBG correlated negatively with postprandial TG, in control group.Conclusion:Postprandial triglyceride levels were associated with risk of CVD. These findings are particularly interesting and may contribute to an explanation for the higher cardiovascular disease risk in men with lower total testosterone concentrations.Key words:CVD, Dyslipidemia, postprandial TG, Testosterone.

Abstract

Periodontitis is a chronic inflammation that effect the tissue that surround and support theteeth, and this is prevalent cause of teeth loss in adults while prostatitis is a comparativelycommon issue affecting about 12 percent of men, and it’s the most common prostate-relatedhealth issue in men under age fifty. Researches showed that the heart diseases spread in thepersons that have periodontitis about 25-50% higher than healthy persons. Recent studieshave connected periodontal disease with plenty of systemic health risks, including heartdisease and prostatitis but their results were varied. The recent study aimed to explore thelinking of gum diseases with heart diseases and prostate inflammations. In total, 150 serumsamples of four age groups of participants distributed as 100 (66.7%) samples of patients withperiodontitis and other 50 (33.3%) samples of control, All patients were attending to Ibn alBitar hospital, teaching laboratories – Medical city and Specialized Dental Center AL-Alwiyaand the diagnosis of all cases based up on patients medical history that evaluated by qualifiedphysicians and some other laboratory investigations. As (38.0%) patients with heart diseaseshistory and (58.6%) patients with prostatitis. Sample were analyzed for Triglycerides, Prostatespecific antigen (PSA) and CRP levels. The abnormal Triglycerides level estimated by(37.3%), while the elevated level of (PSA) was determined by (40.0%). Furthermore, theprevalence of CRP seropositivity in individuals increased by (43.3%). The incidence ofperiodontal disease (PD) was paralleled with the positivity of tested biochemical markers ofcardiovascular disease (CVD) history and prostatitis respectively with high significantdifferences (P= 0.000). Finally, there is significant connection of PD with CVD and prostatitis,but further studies are needed, and the outcomes of this study have limitations, also thecurrent finding encourages to review a large sample size with different age groups in order toclarify this issue.

Abstract

Carbon nanotubes with different shapes have been prepared using water assisted chemical vapor deposition technique (WA-CVD). Different thicknesses of nickel layers were sputtered on alumina substrate. These were treated under high temperature (700 °C) at hydrogen gas to grow nickel nanoparticles (Ni-NPs). Tube furnace (single type), argon and acetylene gases were used for Carbon Nanotubes (CNTs) growth. The FESEM, TEM, HRTEM, Raman spectroscopy, and XRD were used for characterization of the carbon product. The results show that Water Assisted CVD produces CNTs with no trace of amorphous carbon. Nickel catalyst thicknesses (0.5,1,3,3.45,6.8,100 nm) offer different shapes of carbon nanotubes (single walled carbon nanotube, plain MWCNT, helical carbon nanotube, carbon nanofiber).

تم تحضير انابيب الكاربون النانوية باشكال مختلفة باستخدام طريقة ترسيب البخار الكيميائي بمساعدة الماء. حيث تم ترسيب طبقات مختلفة السمك من النيكل بطريقة التذرية على اساس من الالومينا. وقد تمت معاملتها بالهيدروجين وعند درجة حرارة عالية (700 °C). حيث تم استخدام فرن انبوبي احادي و غاز الاستيلين وغاز الاركون لتنمية انابيب الكاربون النانوية. وتم استخدام المجهر الالكتروني الماسح عالي الدقة والمجهر الالكتروني النافذ والمجهر الالكتروني النافذ عالي الدقة ومطياف رامان والاشعة السينية المنحادة لتشخيص الكاربون الناتج. بينت النتائج بان استخدام الترسيب البخار الكيميائي بمساعدة الماء ينتج انابيب كاربون بدون وجود اثر للكاربون غير المتبلور.وان اختلاف سمك طبقة المادة المساعدة (0.5,1,3,3.45,6.8,100 nm)اعطت اشكال مختلفة من انابيب الكاربون النانوية وهي انابيب الكاربون احادية الجدران ومتعددة الجدران المستوية والحلزونية، والياف الكاربون النانوية.

Abstract

In this paper, selective etching process is used to synthesize SiNWs. This method arises from electroless metal deposition on a silicon wafer through selective etching. The electroless plating technique has many advantages such as low temperature processing and simple process with non-expensive deposition facilities. A clean p-type silicon wafer was etched in an aqueous solution containing hydrofluoric acid (HF) and silver nitrate (AgNO3) at 60ºC for 60 minutes. This aqueous solution was prepared by mixing both HF and AgNO3 in a plastic beaker and was heated in hot water bath. Electroless silver deposition will take place on the surface of Si wafer and their growth mechanism are analyzed on the basis of a self assembled localized microscopic electrochemical cell model. The structure of SiNWs is observed by using field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM). It has revealed the formation of SiNWs with diameter ranging from 40 nm to 200 nm with the length of about 20 µm. The unique features of SiNWs have made them potentially applicable in solar cell, chemical sensing devices and basic components for nanoelectronic and optoelectronic devices.

Abstract

Haemophilia A is an X-linked, recessively inherited bleeding disorder which results from deficiency of procoagulant factor VIII (FVIII). Forty hemophilic patients were enrolled in the current study. Blood sample were collected and DNA was extracted and subjected to multiplex PCR amplification using specific primers which resulted in bands containing all the suspected mutations associated with hemophilia; CVD Strip Assay was also used to differentiate the obtained mutations. The results showed that out of the (40) hemophilic individuals, the higher incidence (55%) was for the MTHFR (A1298C) heterozygotic type of mutation while the lower incidence (5%) for a mutation recorded for factor V (G1691A, leiden), factor V (H1299R, R2), prothrombin (G20210A), and facto XIII (V34L). For the Apo type mutation, B type hasn’t been detected while E type observed in all cases; A1/A2 mutation created the higher incidence with 25% on the other hand, A3/A3 hasn’t been detected and thus it represented 0% of all the Apo mutations

Abstract

يعتبر الكاربون الحراري (pyrolytic Carbon) من المواد المهمة لما يمتلكه من خصائص فيزياوية وميكانيكية وكيميائية مميزة مقارنة بالمواد الأخرى ومن أهم هذه الخصائص هي تحمله لدرجات الحرارة العالية ولأجله يستخدم دائما كطلاء للحفاظ على المواد المراد استخدامها للظروف القاسية وتحسين خواص بعض المواد مثل زيادة التوصيلية الكهربائية [1 ] والعزل الحراري وقابليته على امتصاص وانعكاس الضوء [2 ] بالإضافة إلى استخداماته في المجالات الطبية [3’4]. يتم طلاء الكاربون الحراري أولا : بطريقة الترسيب الفيزياوي عن طريق التكثيف المباشر للأبخرة والغازات المتطايرة وترسيبها على سطح القاعدة. ثانيا : بطريقة الترسيب الكيمياوي للبخار عن طريق إحداث تفاعلات كيمياوية للمركبات المتطايرة وترسيبها على سطح القاعدة الساخنة [5 , 6 ] بالإضافة إلى ذلك هنالك تقنيات متعددة ومنها طريقة التفكك الحراري (Thermal Decomposition) لغاز الميثان [7,8 ]وكذلك استخدام الميثان والاستيلين والبروبان والبنزين كغازات هيدروكاربونية لتحضير غشاء الكاربون الحراري عند درجات حرارة (1200-1400 °C) وكثافته (1.8-2 gm/cm3)

Abstract

In this work chemical vapor deposition method (CVD) for the production of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have been improved by the addition of S. Steel mesh container (SSMC) inside which the catalyst (Fe/Al2O3) was placed. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) investigation method used to study nanotubes produced, showed that high yield of two types of (CNTs) obtained, single wall carbon nanotube (SWCNTs) with diameter and length of less than 50nm and several micrometers respectively and nanocoil tubes with a diameter and length of less than 100nm and several micrometers respectively. The chemical analysis of (CNTs) reveals that the main component is carbon (94%) and a little amount of Al (0.32%), Fe (2.22%) the reminder is oxygen. It was also found that the use of (SSMC) leads to increase in yield by a factor of 3 of (SWNTs) and produces nanocoil at the same time.

تم في هذا البحث تطوير طريقة الترسيب الكهربائي الكيمياوي (CVD) لإنتاج انابيب النانوكاربون عن طريق إضافة حاوية شبكية مصنوعة من الحديد المقاوم للصدأ (SSMC) والتي تم وضع العامل المساعد (Fe/Al2O3) في داخلها. تم أيضا استخدام تقنية المايكروسوب الماسح الالكتروني (SEM) للتعرف وتشخيص نوعين من انابيب الكاربون المنتجة في هذا العمل وهي كما يلي أحادية الجدار (SWNTs) وبقطر وطول اقل من 50 نانوميتر وبضعة مايكروميترات بالتتابع وانابيب الكاربون النانوية الحلزونية وبقطر اقل من 100 نانوميتر وبطول بضع مايكروميترات. واظهر التحليل الكيمياوي لانابيب الكاربون النانوية المنتجة ان مكوناته الأساسية هي الكاربون (94% كار بون) و (0,32%) الألمنيوم و(2,22%) حديد والمتبقي هو الأوكسجين. وجد ان الحاوية المستخدمة (SSMC)ادت الى زيادة الحصيلة بزيادة مقدارها 3 مرات من انابيب الكاربون النانوية وكذلك إنتاج انابيب نانو كاربون الحلزونية في نفس الوقت.

Abstract

Heart diseases problems linked to female genitalia associated carcinomas were considered as a major issues and life threat; therefore, it was necessary to determine the relationship between heart diseases problems with HPV16 infection and P53 expression in some groups of female Iraqi patients that suffer from endometrial Adenocarcinoma (EC) and ovarian carcinoma. This study was designed as a two prospective groups. It involved ninety samples of serum were collected from the Medical City of Baghdad from the period of October 2014 to January 2015 as 45 50% of endometrial Adenocarcinoma (EC) patients group and 45 (50%) of ovarian carcinoma patients group then stored in -80°C. All samples were examined for HPV16 IgG, IgM and p53 expression by the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).Highly significant difference (p <0.001) of Mutant p53 expression has been detected in 32 35.6% out of 41 45.6% patients with heart diseases history in comparing with patients without history of heart diseases. In addition to , highly significant differences (p < 0.001) of HPV16 IgM has been detected in 36 patients had previous history of heart problems as 40% out of 41 patients. In the other hand, Endometrial Adenocarcinoma (EC) cases, have been a statistically significant differences with HPV16 IgG in 35 38.9 % and HPV16 IgM in 31 34.4% positive results out of 45 cases (p < 0.05 ) with highly significant differences in the positive cases of 32 35.6% that had been detected with heart diseases problems (p < 0.001). Furthermore, the ovarian carcinoma cases have positives HPV16 IgG and HPV16 IgM levels as 24 26.7 % and 18 20% respectively with significant difference regarding to the negative results (p < 0.05 ).An interesting results has been detected recently in this study, as HPV16 infection followed by p53 inactivation may initiate heart diseases in some groups of females Iraqi patients that had been with endometrial Adenocarcinoma or ovarian carcinomas. So that, HPV16 infection plays a major role in the heart diseases progression through it E6 and E7 oncoproteins to the sabotage of the normal p53 and pRb pathways.
