Synthesis and Optical Properties of Polystyrene Doped with DCM Thin Films

Abstract

In the present work Polystyrene (PS) polymer doped with DCM laser dye thin films have been preparedon glass substrate using casting method. The final samples of PS doped with DCM thin films were treated withdifferent annealing temperatures at (30, 40, 50, 60) oC. Optical absorption and transmission spectra of the preparedthin films were recorded using UV-VIS double beam spectrometer in the wavelength range from 190 to 1100 nm.The results shown that the allowed direct electronic transitions energy gap increased from 2.08 up to 2.25e.V as thetemperature increasing from 30 to 60oC, whereas the allowed indirect electronic transition energy gap increase from2.02 up to 2.17 eV as the temperature increase from 30 to 60oC. The effect of temperature on the optical propertiessuch as Urbach’s energy, Refractive index, Extinction coefficient, Critical angle, Brewster angle, and Finessecoefficient of PS doped with DCM thin films also studied in this work.

Abstract

In this work thin films containing laser dye (DCM) doped with (PVC) were prepared using castingmethod. Titania (TiO2) nanoparticles also were synthesized using sol-gel technique. Different titaniananoparticle densities (0.882×1020, 1.765×1020, 2.648×1020 and 3.530×1020 cm-3) were co-doping with dye dopedpolymer to study the effect of this addition on the optical properties and electronic transition energy gaps incases of both direct and indirect transitions, Absorbance spectra were measured using Spectrophotometer.Absorption and extinction coefficients as well as the refractive indices have been obtained the spectra ofabsorbance at the strong absorption region. It was observed from results that the allowed direct electronictransitions energy gap was decreasing from 2.22 to 2.175e.V with the increasing of titania nanoparticles densityand the allowed indirect electronic transition energy gap decreasing from 2.19 to 2.13e.V.

Abstract

Poly (vinyl alcohol) doped with different Green methyl concentration (4%) by solvent cast method for different thickness the prepare films were 5, 10, 15,and 20 μm. Transmission and absorption spectrum have been recored in order to study the effect of increasing thickness on some opttical constans such as transmittance, reflectance, absorption coefficient, refractive index and extinction coefficient. The film study reveals that all these parameters affect by increasing the thickness. The films show indirect allowed interband transitions that influenced by the thicknesses , the optical energy gap has been increased from about (3.36 eV) for the (5 μm) , (3.39 eV) for the (10 μm) , (3.41 eV) for the (15μm) and (3.45 eV) for the (20 μm) .

تم تحضير اغشية من بوليمر بولي فنايل الكحول المدعمة بالمثيل الاخضر بأنسبة (4%) بطريقة الصب وباسماك مختلفة ( 5 , 10 , 15 , 20) مايكرومتر . تم دراسة اطياف الامتصاص والنفاذية مع زيادة السمك على بعض الثوابت البصرية مثل الانعكاسية والنفاذية ومعامل الامتصاص ومعامل الانكسار ومعامل الخمود لأغشية بوليمر بولي فينيل الكحول . لقد وجد ان جميع الثوابت البصرية التي تم دراستها تتأثر بزيادة السمك. كذلك وجد في هذه الدراسة ان الانتقالات الحاصلة نتيجة لتأثير السمك هي انتقالات مسموحة غير مباشرة . وجد ان فجوة الطاقة البصرية تزداد بزيادة السمك حيث (3.36 eV) لـ (5μm) ، (3.39 eV) لـ (μm10) , (3.41 eV) لـ (μm15) , (3.45 eV) .
