Abstract

ABSTRACT: BACKGROUND: Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by a high blood glucose concentration (hyperglycemia ) which is due to insulin deficiency and / or insulin resistance . As a consequence of the metabolic derangements various complications develop , so the aim of this investigation is to study(histological ) the role of cinnamon – oil on the testis tissue of alloxan – induced diabetes rat . METHODS AND METHODS : Forty -six male rats were used and divided into 3 groups : group I , 6 = animal control . group II , 20 = treated with alloxan and the 3 rd group , 20 = treated with alloxan + cinnamon . RESULTS : Testis of group I revealed normal distribution of seminiferous tubules and spermatozoa filled the lumen of these tubules . Group II showed reduction in number of seminiferous tubules , and absence of spermatozoa in their lumen , besides the significant decrease in testis weight . Group III elicited retrained these changes to approximately its normal view . CONCLUSION : This herbs ( cinnamon ) decrease or protect the destructive effect of alloxan on testis tissue

Abstract

This study was performed to investigate the effects of cinnamon extract on of blood glucose as well as serum insulin and testosterone hormones. The experiment was carried out on twenty four male adult mice distributed into 4 groups of 6 mice each. Group one was kept as positive control, while mice of the other three groups were given orally an aqueous cinnamon extract at 0.5, 1 and 2mg/ml respectively, daily for three weeks. The results showed that oral administration of cinnamon extract at 2 mg/ml to diabetic male mice for three weeks decreased blood glucose level and increased serum insulin and testosterone levels. This study recommends that intake of cinnamon bark as a drink may be beneficial for diabetic patients who suffer from sexual impotency as their extracts induce antidiabetic activity and enhance male fertility in diabetic mice.

صممت هذه الدراسة للتحري عن فعالية مستخلص نبات القرفة على تركيز السكر بالدم إضافة إلى الانسولين وهرمون التستيرون. تم اختبار 26 فأر موزعين على اربع مجاميع بواقع 6 فئران لكل مجموعة. المجموعة الاولى اختبرت كمعامل سيطرة في حين تم تجريع المجاميع الثلاثة المتبقية بالمستخلص المائي لنبات القرفة وبتراكيز تراوحت 0.5 ، 1 و 2ملغم/مل على التوالي يوميا ولمدة ثلاثة أسابيع.أظهرت النتائج أن التجريع الفموي للمستخلص المائي للقرفة بالتركيز 2 ملغم/مل للفئران المصابة بالسكري لمدة ثلاثة أسابيع خفضت معدل تركيز السكر في الدم وزادت معدلات هرمون الانسولين والتستيرون. لذلك ونظرا للنتائج التي تم الحصول عليها نوصي بأنه أخذ نبات القرفة وبشكل شراب قد يؤدي إلى نتائج مفيدة لمرضى السكري والذي يعانون من العجز الجنسي كون المستخلص النباتي يحفز الفعالية ضد السكري وتحسين الخصوبة في الفئران المصابة بالسكري.

Abstract

The inhibitory effect of Cinnamon cassia against Candida albicans which isolated from cases of sore mouth in vitro and in vivo was studied. The results of determining inhibitory effect of alcohol and aqueous extract of Cinnamon against C.albicans according to well diffusion method showed that Cinnamon extract had the best effect at 50% concentration with inhibition zone reached to (23) millimeter in aqueous extract and (20) millimeter in alcohol extract while the less effect was observe at 10% concentration which reached to (11) millimeter in aqueous extracts and (9) millimeter in alcohol extract. The out come of in vivo study (histological examination ) clarified that C.albicans caused clinical pathological effect in mice tissue organs ( liver , intestine, and kidney) when administrated orally by 1.5x 10 8 cfu/ml C. albicans that effect decrease by orally inoculated with 5 mg/ml of the aqueous Cinnamon extract .The results reflect the ability of cinnamon to reduce certain clinical pathological change in mice organs, with promising encourage to use the Cinnamon as biotherapeutic agents against C.albicanas infections.

تم دراسة التأثير التثبيطي لنبات القرفة للحد من نمو خميرةCandida albicanis و المعزولة من حالات القرح الفموية خارج و داخل الجسم الحي. أوضحت نتائج التأثير التثبيطي للمستخلص المائي والكحولي للقرفة بطريقة الانتشار عبر الحفر أن مستخلص القرفة ذو تأثير تثبيطي عالي يصل إلى23)) مليمتر للمستخلص المائي و(20) ملم للمستخلص الكحولي عند تركيز 50% بينما اقل تأثير تثبيطي كان عند تركيز10% حيث وصل الى (11) مليمتر للمستخلص المائي و(9) مليمتر للمستخلص الكحولي .أما عند إجراء الدراسة داخل الجسم الحي( الفحص النسيجي) بينت النتائج أن خميرةC.albicanis سببت تأثيرات مرضية واضحة في أنسجة الأعضاء ( كبد, أمعاء, كلية ) عندما جرعت الفئران بمقدار 0.1 مل 1.5 ) ×108 خلية حية ( هذا التأثير تناقص عند تجريع الفئران 5 mg/ml من المستخلص المائي للقرفة مما يعكس قابلية القرفة في التقليل من التغيرات المرضية في أنسجة الفئران وهذه النتائج تشجع على استخدامه كعلاجات حيوية للحد من التأثيرات المرضية لخميرة C. albicans.

Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the effect of cinnamon powder on live weight gain, feed intake and feed conversion ratio, and some blood constituents. Three hundred one day-old broiler chickens (Ross308) were distributed into 15 pens with 20 chickens each, into five equal groups, comprising 3 replicates per treatment. The experimental treatments were fed as follows : a negative control diet without cinnamon T1 , 250 ppm of cinnamon T2 , 500 ppm of cinnamon T3 , 750 ppm of cinnamon T4 , and 1000 ppm of cinnamon T5 , and the feeding were carried out for 49 days.The results showed that chickens fed with cinnamon powder (T2,T3,T4,T5) had significantly higher (p≤0.05) , live body weight gain , feed intake compared with control group (T1), but there were no significant between T1 and all treatments except T5 on feed conversion ratio. Moreover the chickens fed with cinnamon powder had significant (p≤0.05) reducing serum glucose, cholesterol and triglyceride. In conclusion, cinnamon powder could be considered as a potential natural growth promoter for poultry due to the effect on some blood metabolites and broiler performance.

Abstract

AbstractCinnamonum zeylanicum (cinnamon) bark is considered extensively in the endogenous system of medicine as a drug for diabetes in many countries . The current investigations focuses attention on the glucose and lipid lowering effect of the aqueous extract of Cinnamonum zeylanicum (cinnamon) barks on experimentally induced diabetes in rats . The biochemical parameters studied were plasma glucose, insulin , total cholesterol, triglycerides, phospholipids, mhaemoglobin, and glycosylated haemoglobin. In addition to measuring body weight , renal glucose reassertion were notified. Aqueous extract of cinnamon barks were orally administered daily for 30 days in a dose of 100 mg / kg body weight to alloxan– diabetic rats, and a significant reduction in the parameters measured was investigated compared to diabetic rats, meanwhile , Glibinclamise was used as standard reference drug. In conclusion cinnamon barks posses a hypoglycaemic with concurrent hypolipidemic effect in diabetic states , and may further suggests that cinnamon parks may be useful in the therapy and managements of diabetic hyperlipidemia through reducing lipids levels.

الخلاصةيعد نبات الدارسين من الاعشاب الطبية المستخدمة كعامل مضاد لداء السكري في الكثير من دول العالم. لقد ركز البحث على تاثير المستخلص المائي لسيقان نبات الدارسين على نسبة السكر والدهون فى دم الجرذان المختبرية المخلقة بداء السكري. تمت دراسة المؤشرات البايوكيميائية والمتمثلثة بالجلوكوز, الانسولين, الهيموكلوبين والهيموكلوبين السكري, الكوليسترول, الفوسفولبدز والترايكليسرايد وكذلك وزن الجسم واعادة امتصاص الكلوكوز من البول. استخدمت الطريقة الفموية فى البحث لاعطاء المستخلص المائي لسيقان نبات الدارسين للجرذان المخلقة بداء السكر لمدة 30 يوم وبجرعة 100 ملغم لكل كغم وزن, واعتمادا على نتائج البحث فقد لوحظ انخفاض معدلات المؤشرات البايوكيميائية المدروسة ولذلك يمكن اعتبار الدارسين من الاعشاب الفعالة لتخفيض معدلات السكري ويجب تواصل الدراسات لايجاد علاجات اخرى فعالة لتخفيض معدلات الدهون بالدم.

Abstract

The antibacterial activity of aqueous extracts of cinnamon and clove against Staphylococcus aureus was investigated. Agar diffusion technique was applied in the trial. Both cinnamon and clove were found to have inhibitory effect against Staphylococcus aureus and the mean of the diameter of inhibition zones ranges from (7-17) mm for cinnamon and (7.5-19) mm for clove and statistical analysis using t-test demonstrated that there were significant differences between cinnamon and clove at each concentration used in this study in order that clove was found to have greater effects against Staphylococcus aureus. The minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) was also determined and it was shown that 30% was the MBC for cinnamon and 15% was the MBC for clove.

Abstract

ABSTRACT:BACKGROUND:Diabetes mellitus is the leading cause of chronic renal failure. However, in the early phase of the disease before complications have set in, the glomerular filtration rate is elevated and kidney size increased. The clinical importance of these early aberrations derives from the hyperfilteration (the heightened glomerular capillary) that drives damages the glomerulus, and the enlargement of the kidney (the glomerulus).OBJECTIVE:The aim of the present investigations is to examine histologically the effect of cinnamon oil on the kidney tissues of alloxan – induced diabetes rats.MATERIALS AND METHODS:Fifty male rats were used and divided into four groups: Group I =12 animal controls, Group II =12 treated with alloxan, Group III = 12 treated with alloxan + cinnamon oil, Group IV = 12 treated with cinnamon oil only.RESULTS:Renal tissues (Bowman's capsule, proximal and distal convoluted tubules) of diabetes group: revealed obvious mesangial expansion and basement membrane thickening. While the diabetic treated animals with cinnamon oil ameliorated the increase in the mesangial area in diabetic rats.CONCLUSION:Cinnamon oil can be recommended as an support for the prevention of alloxan – induced diabetic complications.

Abstract

Background: Plants have an almost limitless ability to synthesize aromatic substances, most of which are phenols ortheir oxygen-substituted derivatives. These secondary metabolites could be utilized for benefit of mankind bystudying their medicinal properties The study was performed for isolation and identification of the oral Candidaspecies in patients with type II Diabetes mellitus and healthy subjects (control group) and testing the effect ofTamarix ramosissima (T. ramosissima)and Cinnamomum zeylanicum (Ci. Zeylanicum)extract on the isolated species.Materials and Methods: . Fasting stimulated saliva were collected by spitting method for each subject. Candidaspecies were isolated, purified and identified according to morphological characteristic on chromogenic agar(CHROMagar Candida) and biochemical test on API Candida. Also the study included the effect of T. ramosissimaand Ci.zeylanicum extracts on the isolated species using agar well diffusion method. Aqueous, alcoholic,ethylacetate and aqueous acetone extracts were prepared in different concentrations T. ramosissima and aqueous,alcoholic extract from Ci.zeylanicum. The activity of the extract was determined by measuring the diameter ofinhibition zone.Results: The results showed that Candida species was recovered from the oral cavity of 76% of the diabetic group, incontrast to 8.58% of the control group. Candida albicans (C. albicans) was the most frequently isolated species inboth groups it reach to 33 isolates (66%) (in diabetic group fallowed by C. krusei two isolates (4%), C. glabrata oneisolate (2%), C.tropicalis one isolate (2%) and C. lusitaniae one isolate (2%) and three isolates (8.58%) of C. albicans inthe control group. There was highly significant p<0.01 correlation between glycemic control and age, significantp<0.05 correlation between females and diabetes with oral carriage of Candida species, also results showed highlysignificant p<0.01 antifungal effect of Tamarix ramosissima aqueous acetone extract on all Candida species by usingdifferent concentrations there; were diameters of inhibition zones found to increase with increasing theconcentration of the extracts. While aqueous, alcoholic and ethylacetate extract of Tamarix ramosissima did notshow any effect on Candida species. Highly significance p<0.01 was shown in aqueous, alcoholic extracts ofCinnamomum zeylanicum on all Candida species; the diameter of inhibition increase with increasing theconcentration.Conclosion: Diabetic patients had a higher oral candidal carriage rate in comparison to non- diabetic . C. albicanswas the predominant isolate, and a variety of other Candidal species. Oral candidal colonization was highlysignificantly associated with fasting blood sugar. Tamarix. ramosissima leaves (aqueous acetone) extract haveantifungal effect against Candida while (ethylacetate, aqueous and alcoholic) extract don’t have antifungaleffectagainst Candida isolates from the oral cavity of Diabetes mellitus type II. Cinnamomum. zeylanicum bark(aqueous and alcoholic) extract have antifungal effect against Candida isolates from oral cavity of Diabetes mellitustype II.

Abstract

Distributed 90 fish carp common Cyprinus carpio L. (25-40 g fish-1) randomly on nine experimental treatment of two replicates for each treatment, each replicate included 5 fishes. The experiment was carried out for 60days in 18-glass aquarium (6o cm×30cm×30cm 60 L-1). The fish were fed on nine diets that different ratios from anise, cinnamon, treatment 1 (without the addition), treatment 2 (5% anise), treatment 3 (1% cinnamon), treatment 4 (5% anise +1% cinnamon), treatment 5 (2.5 anise), treatment 6 (2.5 cinnamon), treatment7 (5% anise 2.5% cinnamon), treatment 8 (2.5% anise +1% cinnamon), treatment9 (2.5% anise 2.5%) cinnamon. The results of statistical analysis showed high significantly different (P0.01>) of T3(1% cinnamon) and T8 (2.5% anise +1% cinnamon) for WG and DWG whish were 27.685 gm fish-1 and 26.885 gm fish-1 for WG and 0.520 gm day-1 and 0.500 gm day-1 for DWG. Also The results of statistical analysis showed high significantly different (P0.01>) of T3 (1% cinnamon) and T8 (2.5% anise +1% cinnamon) for RGR% and SGR% whish were 87.085% and 85.070% for RGR% and 1.180% and 1.160 %for SGR%. The results of statistical analysis showed no significantly different between all treatments for RBC. The results of statistical analysis showed high significantly different (P0.01>) of T3, T4 and T5 for WBC whish was 36.250 and 33.750 and 36.00 Cell ml-3×103. Also. The results of statistical analysis showed high significantly different (P0.01>) of T4, T5 and T9 for PCV% whish was 35.00% and 35.500% and35.500 %. The results of statistical analysis showed high significantly different (P0.01>) of T5 for Hb whish was 11.800 gm 100ml-1. The results suggest that the levels of anise and cinnamon of T3 and T8 gave best results for WG, DWG, RGR and SGR, therefore we advise to use the parentage above in diets of common carp.

وزعت 90 سمكة كارب شائع Cyprinus carpio L (25-40 غم سمكة) عشوائياً على تسع معاملات تجريبية وبواقع مكررين لكل معاملة و5 أسماك لكل مكرر، وأستخدم 18 حوض زجاجي بأبعاد (60 سم×30 سم ×30 سم) سعة 60 لتر ماء، غُذيت أسماك التجربة لمدة 60 يوم على 9 علائق تجريبية ذات مستويات مختلفة من اليانسون والقرفة، المعاملة 1 (بدون إضافة)، المعاملة 2 (5% يانسون)، المعاملة 3 (1% قرفة)، المعاملة 4 (5% يانسون + 1% قرفة)، المعاملة 5 (2.5 يانسون)، المعاملة 6 (2.5 قرفة)، المعاملة 7 (5% يانسون + 2.5% قرفة)، المعاملة 8 (2.5% يانسون + 1% قرفة)، المعاملة التاسعة (2.5% يانسون+ 2.5% قرفة). أظهرت نتائج التحليل الأحصائي وجود تفوق عالي المعنوية (0.01>(P للمعاملات 3 (1% قرفة ) و8 (2.5% يانسون + 1% قرفة) لقيم الزيادة الوزنية والزيادة الوزنية اليومية وكانتا على التوالي 27.68 و26.885غم سمكة لقيم الزيادة الوزنية و0.520 غم سمكة-1 يوم-1 و0.500 غم يوم-1 لقيم الزيادة الوزنية اليومية. وأظهرت نتائج التحليل الأحصائي لقيم معدل النمو النسبي ومعدل النمو النوعي وجود تفوق عالي المعنوية (0.01>P) لكل من المعاملة الـ3 (1%قرفة) والمعاملة الـ 8 (2.5% يانسون+1% قرفة) وكانتا على التوالي 87.085% و85.070% لقيم معدل النمو النسبي و1.180% غم يوم-1 و1.160% غم يوم-1 لقيم معدل النمو النوعي. ولم تُسجل فروق معنوية ما بين جميع المعاملات لقيم عدد كريات الدم الحمراء RBC. بينما سجلت قيم عدد كريات الدم البيضاء WBC تفوق عالي المعنوية 0.01)>P ) للمعاملات 3 و4 و5 وكانت على التوالي 36.250 و33.750 و36.00. كما أظهرت نتائج التحليل الأحصائي لقيم مكداس الدم %PCV وجود تفوق عالي المعنوية (0.01>P) للمعاملات 4 و5 و9 وكانت على التوالي 35.500% و35.500% و35.00%. كما سجلت قيم خضاب الدم Hbتفوق عالي المعنوية 0.01)>P) للمعاملة الـ 5 لقيم خضاب الدم Hb وكانت 11.800 غم 100مل-1. نستنتج من النتائج أعلاه أن المستويين من اليانسون والقرفة للمعاملتين 3 (1% قرفة) و8 (2.5%يانسون + 1% قرفة) قد أعطيتا أفضل النتائج لقيم الزيادة الوزنية الكلية والزيادة الوزنية اليومية ومعدل النمو النسبي ومعدل النمو النوعي وبذلك نوصي بأستخدام النسب اعلاه في علائق أسماك الكارب الشائع.

Abstract

The effects of Cinnamon zeylanicum (CZ) bark extracts on productivity of malediabetic albino rats testosterone stages were studied. The experimentation was carried outon 24 male albino rats allocated into 4 equivalent groups of 6 animals each. One groupwas served as a normal control, whereas rats of the groups (2) were given Alloxan (120mg.B.W / day for 3 days) by intraperitoneal injection for induction of diabetes wasleftward as a diabetic control, while rats of groups (3) CZ extract treated by 500 mg.kgB.W.orally, while rats of groups (4) CZ extract treated 500 mg. BW orally,for 6 weekswithout alloxan treatment. Results showed that oral administration of CZ extracts todiabetic rats for 6 weeks significant increased serum testosterone levels. The dose ofextracts ameliorated the degenerative lesions which found in diabetic rats testes, Thisstudy recommend that drinking of CZ bark as a extract may be beneficial for diabeticpatients who suffer from sexual impotency as it improve fertility and lessen the highblood glucose level in male diabetic rats.
