في هذه الدراسة تم تقدير مستوى النشاط الإشعاعي الطبيعي في رسوبيات نهر الكوفة، حيث جمع عشرون نموذج في مواقع مختلفة على امتداد نهر الفرات داخل مدينة الكوفة . تم تحديد النشاط الاشعاعي للمواد المشعة في النماذج والمتكونة من انحلال سلاسل الاشعاع الطبيعي, يورانيوم-238 و ثوريوم-232 بالاضافة الى النظير المشع البوتاسيوم-40 باستخدام مطياف كامي يتكون من كاشفNaI(Tl) (3"x3") . لقد وجد ان قيم النشاط الاشعاعي الطبيعي لليورانيوم-238, الثوريوم-232 والبوتاسيوم-40 تتراوح من19.22 إلى101.13 , ومن 15.93 الى69.89 ومن424.93 الى1429.00 (بيكرل /كغم), على التوالي. تم مقارنة نتائج هذه الدراسة مع المعدل العالمي والحدود المسموح بها من قبل منظمة [UNSCEAR] . تم حساب كل من النشاط الاشعاعي المكافئ للراديوم Raeq)), معدل الجرعة الممتصة (AD), الجرعة الفعالة السنوية الخارجية (AEDE) ومعامل الخطورة الخارجي (Hex) لتقييم مخاطر الاشعاع . اظهرت النتائج ان النشاط الاشعاعي المكافئ للراديوم (Raeq) لجميع النماذج هو ادنى من الحد المسموح 370 (بيكرل /كغم), اما بالنسبة لمعدل الجرعة الممتصة (AD) والجرعة الفعالة السنوية (AEDE) فقد كانت لاغلب النماذج هي اعلى من الحد المسموح , اما معامل الخطورة الخارجي (Hex ) لجميع النماذج هو اقل من الواحد

In this work, the level of natural radioactivity has been evaluate in the Euphrates river sediments soils. Twenty samples were collected at different positions along the river inside Al-Kufa city. The specific activity of Naturally Occurring Radioactive Materials (NORMs) of the 238U and 232Th decay chains and 40K were measured by gamma-ray spectrometry system consist of NaI(Tl) (3"x3") detector. It was found that the ranges of the specific activity in units of ( Bq/kg) for 238U, 232Th and 40K is from 19.22 to 101.13, 15.93 to 69.89 and from 424.93 to 1429.00, respectively. The results obtained have been compared with the worldwide average values of 35, 30 and 400 Bq/kg , respectively, reported by the UNSCEAR (2000). To assess the radiological hazard of river sediments, the radium equivalent activity (Raeq) ,the absorbed dose rate (AD) (in nGy/h), the outdoor annual effective dose equivalent (AEDE) and external hazard index (Hex) have been calculated. It was observed that the (Raeq) values for all samples are lower than the accepted safety limit average value of 370 Bq/kg , and the (AD) ,(AEDE) for most samples are greater than the permissible limits and the external hazard index (Hex) are lower than the limit of unity.

Specific activity --- Euphrates river --- NORMs

Sediments samples from ten stations along the Euphrates River and seven samples from selected springs within Al –Anbar governorate, (western part of Iraq), were collected and analyzed for radioactivity. Sediments samples were dried at 100 ºC for 24 hours. Radioactivity in 1 kg of each sample was measured using gamma spectrometer system based on a pure germanium detector with efficiency 30%. The activity of Ra-226, Th-232, K-40 were measured to be within the typical average of the radioactivity in sediment in world rivers, while relatively elevated concentration were found in the sediment of some of the studied spring. In current study activity concentrations of Cs-137 in the sediments were detected which may be caused by the global fallout as well as caused by transferring of cesium from the relatively high concentration areas in western desert by the rainwater within the valleys to the sediments of the Euphrates. The radiological aspects were investigated by calculating the radiological hazard indices such as absorbed dose rate, annual effective dose equivalent, hazard indices and gamma index. The radiological hazard indices were below the recommended international values. Ra-226 and Cs-137 concentrations in water and radiation doses due to drink water of the Euphrates River were estimated. The maximum estimated interior doses which caused by 137Cs and 226Ra in water were found to be 1.93 x 10-5mSv/y and 4.01x10-3 mSv/y, respectively.

جرى اختيار نماذج رواسب من عشرة محطات على طول نهر الفرات وسبعة نماذج اخرى من ينابيع مختارة ضمن محافظة الانبار(غربي العراق) وجرى تحليلها اشعاعيا. جرى تجفيف نماذج الرواسب تحت حرارة 100 درجة مئوية لمدة 24 ساعة. وجرى تعين النشاط الاشعاعي في 1كغم من كل نموذج باستخدام منظومة تحليل اطياف كاما المستندة الى عداد الجرمانيوم عالي النقاوة ذي الكفاءة 30%. كانت نتائج قياس النشاط الاشعاعي للراديوم-226 والثوريوم-232 والبوتاسيوم-40 ضمن معدل النشاط الاشعاعي للرواسب للانهار العالمية. بينما كانت هناك تراكيز مرتفعة نسبيا في رواسب الينابيع. كما وجد في الدراسة الحالية ان هناك تراكيز للسيزيزم-137 في رواسب نهر الفرات والتي قد تكون من نتائج المتساقطات نتيجة التفجيرات والحوادث النووية على مستوى العالم او قد تكون قد انتقلت من مناطق ذات التراكيز العالية نسبيا في المنطقة الغربية من العراق عن طريق مياه الامطار الجارية في الوديان والتي تصب في نهر الفرات. جرى تقييم المخاطر الاشعاعية نتيجة لوجود التراكيز المقاسة للنويدات المشعة اعلاه عن طريق حساب بعض معاملات المخاطر الاشعاعية مثل معدل الجرع الاشعاعية، والجرعة المكافئة اللمؤثرة السنوية، ومعاملات المخاطر ومعامل كاما. كانت معاملات المخاطر الاشعاعية اقل من قيم الحدود العالمية الموصى بها. كما جرى تخمين تراكيز الراديوم-226 والسيزيوم-137 في مياه نهر الفرات والجرع الاشعاعية الناجمة عن استهلاك تلك المياه للشرب. وكانت اقصى الجرع الاشعاعية الناجمة عن وجود السيزيوم-137 الراديوم -226 في مياه نهر الفرات هي 1.93 * 10-5 و 4.0 * 10-3 ملي سيفرت/سنة على التوالي.

The main objective of this study is to evaluate the Euphrates river at Ramadi city and Al-Dhiban canal for different purposes, and to study the variation of cations, anions, electrical conductivity, total dissolved solids, total hardness, sodium adsorption ratio and percentage of sodium for the period (1992-1998). The results indicate that water in Euphrates river at Ramadi city and Al-Dhiban canal is suitable for drinking, irrigation and for different industrial purposes according to the world and Iraqi standard except the total hardness. This exceeded the permissible limits for some months during the study interval which causes additional limitation for domestic and industrial purposes. The results also revealed an increase in parameter values in Al-Dhiban canal in contrast to Al-Ramadi location due to the effect of Al-Warrar canal and Al-Habbaniyah lake. The study concluded that calcium is the cations which are the most available elements in both locations, followed by sodium, magnesium, and potassium. As for anions it was observed that sulfate concentrations are higher than chloride concentrations.

يهدف البحث الى تقييم نوعية مياه نهر الفرات في مدينة الرمادي وقناة الذبان للاغراض المختلفة. تم دراسة تغاير الايوناتالموجبة، التوصيلية الكهربائية، مجموع المواد الصلبة الذائبة، العسرة الكلية، نسبة امتصاص الصوديوم والنسبة المئوية للصوديوم للفترة1998-1992 ). اوضحت النتائج الى صلاحية مياه نهر الفرات وقناة الذبان لاغراض الشرب والري وللاغراض الصناعية المختلفة )استناداً الى المقاييس العالمية والعراقية فيما عدا العسرة الكلية التي تجاوزت الحدود المسموح بها ولبعض الاشهر خلال مدة الدراسة ممايحدد من استخدام الماء للاغراض المنزلية والصناعية. ابرزت النتائج زيادة في قيم المتغيرات في قناة الذبان مقارنة بموقع الرمادينتيجة تاثير قناة الوروار وبحيرة الحبانية. خلصت الدراسة الى ان الكالسيوم هو الايون الموجب الاكثر تواجداً في كلا الموقعين، تليهعناصر الصوديوم ثم المعنسيوم واخيراً البوتاسيوم. وبالنسبة للايونات السالبة لوحظ بان تراكيز ايونات الكبريتات اعلى من تراكيزايونات الكلوريدات.

The aim of this study was to assess a spatial and temporal variations in water quality of the Euphrates River flowing through Iraqi lands, with two approaches: the use of water quality index (WQI) and a principal component analysis (PCA). In the studied section of the river the global water quality WQI was 63.09 (classified as medium – slightly polluted), this value denotes that Euphrates water requirestreatment for drinking, no treatment necessary for most industries and crop uses and suitable for most fish and not recommended for sensitive one. PCA results indicate that three factors for river water explain 92.95% of the total variance. Varifactors obtained from factor analysis for water quality variations indicate that factors responsible for water quality variations are mainly related to soil leaching and runoff process, organic pollution from municipal effluents, pH andtemperature.

الهدف من الدراسة هو تقدير التغيرات الموقعية والزمنية لنوعية مياه نهر الفرات الجاري فيالأراضي العراقية بطريقتين: الاولى باستخدام مؤشر (دليل) نوعية المياه والثانية طريقة تحليلالمركب الأساسي. ومن خلال دراسة مقطع النهر كان مؤشر نوعية المياه 63.09 % (يصنفمتوسط الجودة –طفيف التلوث) وتلك القيمة تبين بأن مياه الفرات تحتاج الى عملية تصفيةلاستخدامات الشرب، ولا تحتاج الى معالجة للمياه الصناعية التي لاتتطلب مياه نقية، وكذلك لاتحتاجالى معالجة لأغراض الري وتعتبر كبيئة مائية صالحة لأغلب انواع الأسماك ماعدا الحساسة منها.بينت نتائج تحليل المركب الأساسي وجود ثلاثة معاملات اساسية تفسر نسبة 92.95 % من التباينالكلي للبيانات. وقد ظهر من خلال تلك المعاملات وجود ثلاث مجاميع رئيسية تسبب حدوثالتغيرات في نوعية المياه، الأولى ناتجة من السيح وغسل التربة، الثانية ناتجة من التلوث العضويوالناتج من تصريف المياه الثقيلة في النهر والثالثة ناتجة من التباين في درجة الحامضية ودرجةالحرارة.

A total of 60 species of aquatic oligochaetes were identified in different sites within Tigris-Euphrates basin / Iraq, including River Tigris, River Euphrates, Southern marshes ( Al-Haweiza , Al-Hammar and Al-Chebaiesh ) , Shutt Al-Germa, and Shatt Al-Arab. In River Euphrates 39 species were identified, 40 species from River Tigris and 32 species from Shatt-Al-Arab and southern marshes.The identified species were classified as four species of Family Aeolosomatidae, 54 species of Naididae ( 31 Naidinae , 8 Pristininae and 15 Tubificid worms), one species of each of Lumbriculidae ( Lumbriculus variegates ) and Lumbricidae ( Eiseiella tetraedra). Among Aeolosomatidae , Aelosoma aquaternarium, A. Liedyi, A. variegatum and A. hemprichi, in which, A. variegatum was the most frequent species, found in Euphrates river. Naidinae community were represented by five species of genus Chaetogaster, two species of each of Paranais, Slavina, & Stylaria, four species of Allonais , and seven species of each of Dero and Nais, in addition to Stephensoniana trivandrana, Specaria josinae and Ophidonais serpentina. Nais variabilis was the most abundant and frequent species in River Tigris while Stylaria lacustris & Ophidonais serpentina are abundant in River Euphrates . Species of Pristininae were representative by four species of genus Pristina and three species of genus pristinella, among them Priatina longiseta is the most abundant species.Tubificid worms, Branchuira sowerbyi and Limnodrilus hoffmeisteri were the most frequent and abundant species in the surface sediments of Iraqi waters. Beside L. hoffmeisteri , other five species of Limnodrilus, two species of Potomothrix, and a single species of Tubifex tubifex , Embolocephalus velutinus, Aulodrilus piguetia, Psammoryctides moravicus and Rhyacodrilus coccineus were recorded.

شخص 60 نوع من قليلة الاهلاب المائية في مواقع مختلفة من حوض نهري دجلة والفرات شملت نهر دجلة و نهر الفرات والاهوار الجنوبية ( الحويزة الحمار والجبايش ) وشط الكرمة وشط العرب. شخصت 39 نوع في نهر الفرات و 40 نوع في نهر دجلة و32 نوع من شط العرب والاهوار الجنوبية.صنفت الانواع المشخصة الى اربعة انواع للعائلة Aeolosomatidae و 54 نوع للعائلة Naididae ( 31نوع الى تحت العائلة Naidinae و 8 انواع الى تحت العائلة Pristininae و 15 الى الديدان الانبوبية) ، اضافة الى نوع واحد لكل من العائلة Lumbriculidae ((Lumbriculus variegates و العائلة Lumbricidae(Eiseiella tetraedra).ومن العائلة Aeolosomatidae سجلت الانواع Aelosoma aquaternarium و A. Liedyi و A. variegatum و A. hemprichi ، وقد سجل النوع A. variegatum النوع الاكثر تردد من بين العيات ووجد في نهر الفرات.مثل مجتمع تحت العائلة Naidinae باربعة انواع تابعة للجنس Chaetogaster ونوعين من كل الاجناس Paranais و Slavina و Stylaria, و اربعة انواع من الجنس Allonais و سبعة انواع من كل من الاجناس Dero و Nais اضافة الى الانواع Stephensoniana trivandrana و Specaria josinaeو Ophidonais serpentina . كان النوع Nais variabilis هو الاكثر وفرة وتردد في نهر دجلة ، بينما كان النوعين Stylaria lacustris و Ophidonais serpentine هي الاكثر وفرة في نهر الفرات. مثلت تحت العائلة Pristininae بارعة انواع من الجنس Pristina a وثلاثة انواع من النوع Pristinella, ومن بينها كان النوع Priatina longiseta هو الاكثر وفرة. وفيما يخص الديادان الانبوبية كان النوعان Branchuira sowerbyi و Limnodrilus hoffmeisteri مها الاكثر وفرة وتردد في المسطحات المائية العراقية . والى جانب النوع L. hoffmeisteri سجلت خمسة انواع اخرى تابعة للجنس Limnodrilus ونوعين من الجنس Potomothrix والانواع المفردة Tubifex tubifexو Embolocephalus velutinus و Aulodrilus piguetiaو Psammoryctides moravicus و Rhyacodrilus coccineus.
