Abstract

racture healing is a physiological process by which bone regenerates itself following injury. It occurs through five stages: haematoma, inflammation, callus formation, consolidation and remodeling1,2. These stages are not sharply demarcated and that two or more stages may be seen at same time in different parts of bone3.

Abstract

The present study was done to investigate the ability of tracheal allograft transplantation in adult dogs and evaluate the health condition of the outcome of the allograft transplantation respect of the healing. Tow groups of adult dogs (each group 4 dogs) were used as both donors and recipients. A rectangle tracheal allograft was transplanted in recipient dog and fixed by suturing, gross evaluation showed that there are no signs of tracheal stenosis or any complication like difficult breathing and blood stained coughing, the animals remained in good health through out the procedure.Histopathological examination one moth after transplantation revealed prominent cartilage enclosed by fibrosis and absence of any infiltration of inflammatory cells while histopathological finding 2 months after operation showed sub epithelial fibrosis and presence of cartilage. This will give indication that tracheal allograft can be used as tissue replacement for treatment of tracheal defects.

Abstract

The efficacy of oil extract of the seeds of Loranthus europeus on wound healing wasinvestigated. After the preparation of the oil extract, the oil ointment of L. europeus wasprepared. A preliminary biochemical analysis were carried out to find out the chemicalcontents of L. europeus oil extract. The study involved 18 male rabbits, they were dividedequally and randomly into 3 groups depending on post wounding biopsy: p(3'd,7Ih and l4‘hdaypost wounding). Two full thickness cut wounds were done on the both sides of shoulderregions( the left wound as control and the left as treated wound) of each group of animals. The treated and control wounds were treated continuously with (0.5mg) oil ointment andVaseline base respectively, for 14”‘ day twice a day. All wounds were evaluatemacroscopically which included "measurement of contraction rate, daily wound contraction, hyperemia, exudation and scab formation." and microscopically for "neutrophil, macrophageinfiltration, re-epithelization, fibroblast proliferation with collagen production and new bloodcapillary formation". ABoth macroscopic and microscopic results showed the efficacy of L europeus seeds inpromoting the healing process significantly as compared with control wounds (P<0.05). Theoil extract treated wounds showed significant increase in hyperemia, exudation and scabformation, neutrophils and macrophages infiltration, fibroblast proliferation with collagenproduction and formation of new epithelium (re-epithelization), contraction rate and dailywound contraction at 3”’ day post wounding, as compared with control wounds, but thesecategories showed reduction at 7”‘ day except in macrophages, re—epithelization and‘ fibroblast with collagen production which all showed significant increase at 7"‘ and 14"‘ dayspost wounding as compared with control wounds. The preliminary chemical analysis foroil extract showed the presence of Glycosides, Carbohydrates, Aldehydes & Ketones,Trifrepenoides groups, protein and Polysaccharides, while Alkaloides, Flavonoides andSaponins are absent.

Abstract

Back ground: Today’s world is increasingly seeking ways to replace the synthetic drugs with the therapeutic power ofnatural products to decrease the percentage of many side effect which result from conventional treatment; one ofthese products was Nigella sativa (NgS) which was used so extensively that it became known as the seed of blessing“Habbatul Barakah” due to its powerful healing qualities for many ailments. The aim of this study was to evaluate thetherapeutic effect of Nigella sativa (powder and oil) on the healing process of extracted teeth sockets.Materials and Methods: The sample of our study consist of Forty eight rabbits to extract there upper two centralincisors under general anesthesia. The left side filled once with Nigella sativa powder and once with Nigella sativa oilmaterial, and the right side left for normal healing as a control group. The two sockets were sutured. The results werestudied radiographically and histologically after 1,2,4,6 weeks postoperatively. The radiographic examination wasperformed by using parallel technique in a digital radiographic examination and histological examination wasperformed under light microscope for the section stained with heamatoxiline and eosin. Results: Radiographically we found that NgS powder showed more radiopacity with complete disappearance oflamina dura in 6 weeks duration compared with NgS oil and control groups, while histologically we found that theNigella sativa (NgS) groups (powder and oil) illustrate an early apposition of osteoid tissue in 1st week duration withnumerous osteoblast and osteocyte in comparision to control group. In six weeks duration well developed bone filledall the portions of the socket in treated socket with NS powder with obvious complete epithelization of socket surfaceConclusion: Nigella sativa (powder or oil) seems to be bioactive materials that enhance differentiation andproliferation of progenitor cells to specialized bone formative cells, with no signs of inflammation

Abstract

This study aimed to treat SDF tendonitis in the forelimbs of horses by application of cold therapy (ice) followed by controlled exercise program. The effect of this treatment was healing, disappearance of the pain and functional rehabilitation of the treated horses.(15) Working horses of varying breeds, sex, age (3-19) years suffering from acute superficial digital flexor tendonitis was used for this study from the beginning of September 2008 to the beginning of September 2010 in Kirkuk, Iraq. All the cases were followed up clinically. Swelling and thickness in the affected parts were measured during treatment period. Swelling was reduced after the treatment by the ice with significant variation (P< 0.05) in the (anterior-posterior and groove’s depth) aspects of sub-metacarpal bone area and (anterior-posterior) aspect of mid-metacarpal bone region. A significant variation (P<0.01) was shown in the (lateral-medial) aspect of sub-metacarpal region and in (anterior-posterior and lateral-medial) aspects of the distal part of the 3rd metacarpal bone region. A significant variation P<0.001 revealed in the (depth groove) aspect of the distal part of the 3rd metacarpal bone area. While there was no significant variance was shown in the (lateral-medial and groove’s depth) aspects of mid-metacarpal bone area.Clinical finding appeared that the functional recovery in treated limbs was improved. This study concluded that cold therapy (ice) was easy, non expensive method, aided to recovery of SDF tendinitis and hasn’t any side effects.
