Abstract

BackgroundCytokines are responsible for the modulation of immunological and inflammatory processes and play a significant role in the pathogenesis of acute coronary syndrome patients (ACS).ObjectiveThis study aims to investigate the serum levels of IL-1α and IL-6 in ACS patients.MethodsThe study covered 140 subjects. It comprised a total of 101 patients with ACS patients [62 with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and 39 with unstable angina (UA)], compared with 39 healthy individuals with no history of cardiac disease. Serum IL-1α and IL-6 analysis was performed by ELISA.ResultsThe present results revealed that there were significant elevation in mean serum levels of IL-1α and IL-6 in patients with ACS ( AMI and UA) as compared to healthy control (P<0.001). Moreover, the levels of these cytokines were significantly higher in AMI patients when compared to UA patients (P<0.001).ConclusionThese finding suggest that IL-1α and IL-6 play an important role in pathogenesis of ACS.KeywordsAcute coronary syndrome, IL-1α and IL-6.

Abstract

Acute abdominal pain generally refers to previously undiagnosed pain that arises suddenly and is of less than 48 hours. Fungal infections are considered as one of the most common causes in gastrointestinal disease, but virtually all fungi have been reported to cause infection in immune competent persons as well. Microbiological study was carried on 94 patients having abdominal pain by taking stool and blood from them. At periods from 9-2013 to 2-2014 in General Teaching Hilla Hospital..This study is done to determine the pathogenesis of fungi and the type of immune statue for abdominal pain caused by fungi by estimating concentrations of IL-1α as an immune marker and immuonoglobulins IgG and IgM . The rate of samples that gave positive results for fungal isolate was 60% , while 40%were negative , also the total number of isolated fungi was 12 genera. Cl.cladosporides have a highest rate of isolated fungi was 39.36%,another fungi also appear in stool samples wereCl.nacrosporum20.2% , Al.alternata 13.82% , Candida spp. 11.7%, Cryptococcus 5.31% ,Penicilum2.12% ,Candida albicanus2.12% ,Aspergillus flavas,Aspergillus fumigates ,Candida trubicalis , Candida crusi and Aurobasidium pull in rate 1.06% for each one. Immunological tests to sera of patients with abdominal disorder refer to significance increasing in the concentration of IL-1α for all patients at different age groups, compared to control and the highest concentration of them in the age group 19-26 years (51.371 ± 1.813pg/ml), The immunological study also included measuring the concentrations of each of the serum immunoglobulin IgG and IgM, the concentrations of highest 329 ±83.007, 1388.5 ± 391.645, mg / dL respectively, for different age groups and no significant difference compared with control for IgG while their present in IgM , This study refers to the role of both cellular and humeral immune response through fungal infection with different fungi.Distribute the fungal infection appear in both sex at female60% and male40% .

Abstract

ABSTRACT Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is a lymphoproliferative disorder characterized by the accumulation of mature-appearing lymphocytes in the blood, marrow, and lymphoid tissues. This study aimed to evaluate innate immunity in patients with CLL via estimation of serum levels of Interleukin-1α (IL-1α) and interleukin 8(IL-8), and complement components C3 and C4. Blood samples were collected from 48 patients with CLL (28 treated and 20 untreated). Other 20 blood samples were collected from healthy appearing individuals as control group. Enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was used to estimate serum concentration of IL-1α and IL-8. Single radial immune-diffusion assay was used to estimate the serum levels of C3 and C4. Total white blood cells and absolute lymphocyte count in each blood sample were determined. The study showed a significant decrease in serum concentration of IL-1α and complement components C3 and C4 in treated and untreated patients, whereas, serum concentration of IL-8 and blood absolute lymphocyte count showed significant increase in untreated patients. These data collectively indicated the aberration in innate immunity in CLL patients which can used as a prognosis for the disease.

إبيضاض الدم اللمفي المزمن هو إختلال في عملية تكاثر الخلايا اللمفاوية ويتميز بتجمع خلايا لمفاوية ناضجة ظاهرياً في الدم، نخاع العظم، والانسجة اللمفاوية. هدفت هذه الدراسة الى تقييم مستوى المناعة المتأصلة لدى مرضى إبيضاض الدم اللمفي المزمن من خلال تقدير المستويات المصلية لانترليوكين 1 الفا، انترليوكين 8 ومكوني المتمم الثالث والرابع. جمعت عينات دم من 48 مريضا بإبيضاض الدم اللمفي المزمن (28 معالجون و20 غير معالجين) فضلاًعن 20 عينة من أشخاص أصحاء ظاهرياً مثلوا مجموعة سيطرة. أستعملت تقنية الاليزا لتقدير التراكيز المصلية لانترليوكين1الفا و8 فيما أستعملت تقنية الانتشار المناعي الشعاعي المنفرد لتقدير مستويي المتممين الثالث والرابع. وحسب العدد الكلي لكريات الدم البيضاء والعدد المطلق للخلايا اللمفاوية في كل عينة دم. أظهرت النتائج إنخفاضاً معنوياً في التراكيز المصلية لانترليوكين 1الفا ومكوني المتمم الثالث والرابع في المرضى المعالجين وغير المعالجين فيما أظهرت التراكيز المصلية لانترليوكين8 والعدد المطلق للخلايا اللمفاوية إرتفاعاً معنوياً في المرضى غير المعالجين. تشير هذه النتائج الى مدى التغيرات الحاصلة في المناعة المتأصلة لدى مرضى إبيضاض الدم اللمفي المزمن والتي يمكن إستعمالها في تحديد مآل المرض.

Comparison study of Interleukin-1 alpha between Unstable Angina and Acute Myocardial Infarction patients

Abstract

Multiple studies support a role for inflammation in the pathogenesis of coronary atherosclerosis and unstable cardiac syndromes. However, of the known pro-inflammatory cytokines, only elevated plasma levels of interleukin-6(IL-6) have been linked to Unstable Angina. We sought to examine the plasma levels of other major proinflammatory cytokines in similar clinical settings patients with unstable angina and acute myocardial infarction and the relationship extent between them. This study aimed to investigate and compare the level of IL-1 in Unstable Angina and Acute Myocardial Infarction patients. Thirty patients with unstable angina and thirty patients with Acute Myocardial Infarction, also thirty healthy individual as control were included in this study to measure the levels of IL-1alpha, lipid profile and Body Mass Index. There was a significant increase in the level of IL-1 α in patients with acute myocardial infarction or with unstable angina compared with control group. IL-1 α positively correlated with total cholesterol, triglycerides, Low Density Lipoprotein and Very Low Density Lipoprotein, while there was a negative correlation with High Density Lipoprotein. In conclusionInterleukin-1 α significantly increases in patients with acute myocardial infarction or with unstable angina. There was no significant difference in level of IL-1α between AMI and unstable angina patients.

دعمت بعض الدراسات دور الالتهابات في تطور مرض نصلب الشرايين و أمراض القلب الوعائية لكن هذه الدراسات أخذت IL-6 فقط بنظر الاعتبار وربطته مع الذبحة الصدرية. في هذا البحث تمت دراسة معاملات التهاب أخرى في مرضى الذبحة الصدرية ومرضى الاحتشاء القلبي و دراسة العلاقة بينهم. هدف الدراسة لتحري ومقارنة مستوى IL-1 α في مرضى الذبحة الصدرية و مرضى الاحتشاء القلبي. تضمنت الدراسة ثلاثون مريضا بالذبحة الصدرية و ثلاثون مريضا بالاحتساء القلبي و ثلاثون من الأصحاء كمجوعة قياسية تم قياس IL-1 α و مستويات الدهون في الدم إضافة إلى معامل كتلة الجسم. أظهرت الدراسة ارتفاعا ملحوظا في مستويات IL-1 α في مرضى الاحتشاء القلبي و مرضى الذبحة الصدرية مقارنة بالمجوعة القياسية وأيضا ارتباطا ايجابيا بين IL-1 α مع الدهون الثلاثية و الكولسترول و ومستوى البروتين ألدهني قليل الكثافة و ارتباط سلبي بين IL-1 α و مستويات البروتين ألدهني عالي الكثافة ولم يكن هنالك اختلاف معنوي في IL-1 α بين مرضى الاحتشاء القلبي ومرضى الذبحة الصدرية.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to evaluate the level of cytokines IL-1α, IL-10 and IL-17A in the serum of patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD), vascular dementia (VD) and down syndrome (DS). The results showed that Serum level of IL-1α was significantly increased in AD patients (3.79 ± 0.26 pg/ml) as compared with DS patients (2.78 ± 0.39 pg/ml) or controls (2.78 ± 0.22 pg/ml), while no significant difference was observed between AD and VD (3.25 ± 0.20 pg/ml) patients or between VD patients, DS patients and controls. The serum level of IL-10 was approximated in VD and DS patients and controls (3.39 ± 0.24, 2.77 ± 0.39 and 3.41 ± 0.35 pg/ml, respectively), but was significantly (P ≤ 0.05) increased in AD patients (5.73 ± 0.55 pg/ml) as compared to these groups. The serum level IL-17A was significantly increased in AD and VD patients (6.28 ± 0.35 and 5.32 ± 0.42 pg/ml, respectively) as compared with DS patients (3.75 ± 0.40 pg/ml) or controls (4.05 ± 0.28 pg/ml).IL-10 is important to diffrentiation between AD and VD.

تهدف الدراسة الحالية إلى تقيم مستوى الحركيات الخلوية (IL-1α, IL-10, IL-17A ) في مصل الدم للمرضى المصابين بمرض الزهايمر ومقارنتها بمستوياتها في مصل دم مرضى الخرف الناشئ عن الجلطة ومرضى متلازمة داون. أظهرت هذه الدراسة إن مستوى (IL-1α) اظهر زيادة معنوية (3.79 ± 0.26 pg/ml) في مرضى الزهايمر مقارنة مع مرضى متلازمة داون وعينات السيطرة, بينما لم يلاحظ فرق معنوي مع مرضى الخرف الناشئ عن الجلطة, وان مستوى (IL-10) كان متقارب في كل من متلازمة داون ومرضى الخرف الناشئ عن الجلطة(3.39 ± 0.24, 2.77 ± 0.39 pg/ml) , بينما اظهر زيادة معنوية في مرضى الزهايمر. اما مستوىIL-17A) ) فقد اظهر زيادة معنوية في مرضى الزهايمر ومرضى الخرف الناشئ عن الجلطة ±0.35 and 5.32 ± 0.42 pg/ml) 6.28) مقارنة مع عينات السيطرة.نستنتج من الدراسة الحالية إن الحركيات الخلوية الثلاث (IL-1α, IL-10, IL-17A ) ترتفع في مرضى الزهايمر وانه يمكن التفريق بين مرضى الزهايمر ومرضى الخرف الناشئ عن الجلطة الدماغية من خلال IL-10)).

Abstract

Background: Oral lichen planus (OLP) is chronic inflammatory disease of the oralmucosa whose etiology is still unknown but mounting evidence points to theimmunologic basis of this disorder.The aim of the present study was to assess the level of salivary IL-1α, IL- 8, salivaryflow rate (SFR), the plaque and gingival indices in lichen planus patients, and toassess their level pre and post treatment with topical steroid in study group, inaddition to the assessment of relation of smoking to these parameters in oral lichenplanus patients.Materials and methods: Whole saliva from fifteen (15) patients with oral lichenplanus, eighteen (18) healthy persons, were investigated for the presence of IL-1α, IL-8 by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay ( ELISA). In addition, the flowrate of saliva (SFR) measured in both groups, plaque and gingival indices alsoassessed pre and post treatment.Results: The results showed a significant elevation of pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-1α , IL- 8, plaque and gingival indices in study group in comparison to controlgroup except the SFR where it was higher in control group than study group alsoshowed that some of these parameters significantly related to smoking statues.The studies parameters also showed significant variation after using of topical steroidin which the salivary level of cytokines IL-1 α , IL-8, plaque &Gingival indiceswere significantly decreased after treatment except SFR was significantly increaseafter treatment.Conclusion: Patients with oral lichen planus have had high levels of inflammatorycytokines in their saliva. The results also showed wide variations in levels amongpatients in pre and post treatment with steroid, in addition the level of proinflammatory cytokines significantly related to smoking status. The resultssuggest links between the proinflammatory cytokines ( IL-1 α , IL-8 ) from oneside and oral lichen planus disease, medication used for treatment and smokingstatus of the patients from another side.

Abstract

AbstractObjective: To study the effect of interleukin-1α and interleukin-8 in tissue injury during ischaemia and reperfusion in acute myocardial infarction patients.Methods: Concentrations of (IL-1α) and (IL-8) for 25 patients with Acute Myocardial Infarction measured by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Results: All 25 patients with acute Myocardial Infarction had a significant rise in serum (IL-1α) and ( IL-8) concentrations (33.62333±12.82255) (117.46±109.75) compared to normal subjects (14.032467±1.798464) (8.951± 5.7) respectively.Conclusion: It is clear that (IL-1α) and (IL-8) results have a role in the development of tissue injury in acute myocardial infarction.Key Words: Acute Myocardial Infarction (AML), Interleukin-1α (IL-1α) and Interleukin-8 (IL-8).

الخلاصة:الهدف: لتحديد هل ان (IL-8) و (αIL- 1) (كلاهما منشط قوي للكريات الدموية البيضاء المتعادلة) لهما دور في تلف الانسجة خلال Ischaemia وعوده الحياة في تلك الانسجة في المرضى المصابين باحتشاء العضلة القلبية الحاد (AMI).طريقة العمل: تم قياس التراكيز (IL-8) و (αIL- 1) لـ 25 مريض مصاب باحتشاء العضلة القلبية الحاد بطريقة (ELISA).النتائج: اظهرت النتائج زيادة احصائية ملحوظه لتراكيز (IL-8) و (αIL- 1) في مصول مرضى احتشاء العضلة القلبية الحاد مقارنة بالاشخاص الطبيعيين.الاستنتاج: هذه النتائج تشير الى ان (IL-8) و (αIL- 1) مهمة في تطور تقدم مراحل احتشاء العضلة القلبية في مرضى احتشاء العضلة القلبية الحاد.الكلمات المفتاحية: احتشاء العضلة القلبية الحاد (AMI)، (αInterleukin-1) (αIL-1) و (Interleukin-8) (IL-8) Mobile: 07703921469

Abstract

Ramadan fasting is one of the pillars of islam. It is often a subject of discussionwhether or not Ramadan fasting confers any effect on immune cytokines.The aim of thisstudy was to evaluate the effect of Ramadan fasting on the level of IL-1α , IL-2 , IL-6 and IL-8.The study was performed on (30) normal healthy fasting and (30) normal healthy nonfastingindividuals in the month of Ramadan (September 2009). Blood samples were obtainedafter the second week of the fasting and were analyzed for IL-1α , IL-2 , IL-6 and IL-8.There was a slight elevation in IL-1α , IL-2 and IL-8 and a slight decreasing in IL-6 cytokinelevel but the differences didn’t reach the degree of significance (P>0.05).Slight elevation ofIL-1α , IL-2 , IL-8 and slight decreasing of IL-6 in normal healthy fasting in comparison tonormal healthy non-fasting individuals were observed. Thus Ramadan is safe and causesImmunomodulation. Ramadan fasting, Immunomodulation, Interleukins.
