Abstract

This work includes preparation of composite material by reinforcing blend of (EP80% + UPE20%) with different layers of Kevlar fibers (2, 4, 6 and 8) at volume fraction of 30%. Hardness and thermal conductivity of all samples were studied before and after (UV) irradiation. The Experimental results showed that, the hardness value increases with increasing the number of Kevlar layers for all samples before and after (UV) irradiation. The thermal conductivity slowly increases with increasing Kevlar layers before and after (UV) irradiation.

Abstract

Composite shell structures have many applications in aerospace industry in which deal with various loading abundantly. In present paper Strain gauge instrument with rectangular rosette strain gauges were used to detect the maximum stress and strain distributions along the shell composite structure. Also a finite element analysis was done for validation of experimental results. The FEM software used was ANSYS14. Impact test, density measurement, and bending test were performed in order to detect physical and mechanical properties such as toughness, principal stresses, and density, of the three laminated composite shells. In addition, the results between experimental and ANSYS were compared. It was observed that an important discrepancy is found between theoretical and experimental results. It was also found a large difference in modulus of elasticity, toughness, and tensile strength for each composite material. These differences are tabulated in many tables in the last paper.

Abstract

In the present study, nano composites were prepared by Hand lay-up molding. The nano composites component of the unsaturated polyester resin (UP) as a matrix, 3% volume fractions of Carbon Fiber (C.F), Glass Fibers (G.F), Kevlar Fiber (K.F) as reinforcement and (0.5%,1%, 1.5% and 2%) volume fractions of Carbon Nanotubes (CNTs) as filler. The erosion wear behavior of this nano composite at four different impingement angles 30°, 45°, 60° and 90° and four angular silica sand abrasive particle sizes 400, 500 , 600 and 800 μm and density were studied. The results showed that the specimens (UP + 3% (GF, CF, KF) +2% CNTs) have the maximum density when compared with the other volume fractions. The non – reinforced unsaturated polyester have lower erosion resistance than nano composites and the specimen (polyester +3% carbon fiber + 0.5% CNTs) has higher erosion resistance than other nano composites at 15cm, angle 30°, grin size of sand 400µm and 15 hour. Application of this work in protection of aircraft structure, turbine blades and pipes from erosion. The Taguchi experimental design ANOVA shows that the filler content factor has great effect on erosion rate of CNTs filled carbon, glass and Kevlar fibers reinforced unsaturated polyester resin.

Abstract

In this research, a laminate composite has been prepared, using unsaturated polyester resin (UP) as a matrix reinforced with Kevlar fibers in different number of layers, glass fibers were added to the optimum product, by replacing one of the layers of Kevlar Fibers with a layer of Glass Fibers. Hand Lay-up method was used to prepare the test samples. To evaluate the composite material properties, tensile, hardness, impact, optical microscope tests were done.The results of composite made of polyester reinforced with Kevlar Fibers show that the mechanical properties (Tensile strength, Modulus of elasticity, Hardness, Impact strength) increase with increasing the number of reinforced layers. The best experimental values ofthe mechanical properties (Tensile strength, Modulus of elasticity, Hardness, Impact strength) were (190 MPa, 1.72 GPa, 79.25, and 68.75KJ/m2) respectively, for composite with three layers of Kevlar Fibers and then followed by composite with the sequence of layers (kevlar-glass-kevlar) and its mechanical properties (Tensile strength, Modulus of elasticity, Hardness, Impact strength) were (175.5 MPa, 1.69 GPa, 80, and 59.1 KJ/m2) respectively, Optical microscope shows welldistribution ofreinforcedlayers in composite.

Abstract

In this work a hybrid composite materials were prepared containing matrix of resin (unsaturated polyester UP) reinforced by different reinforcing materials (Kevlar fiber + Carbon fiber + Boron fiber).The hybrid composite materials prepared are: *H1 = UP + KF(WR) + CF(WR) *H2 = UP + KF(WR) + MF(WR) *H3 = UP + KF(WR) + MF(WR) + CF(WR)All samples related to mechanical tests were prepared by hand lay up moldingprocess.Mechanical tests include young modulus with different exposure times in UV radiation. The mechanical experimentations results were in favour of the samples (H3) with an obvious weakness of the samples (H1) and a decrease of these properties with the increasing of the exposure times in UV radiation.

في هذا البحث حضرت مواد متراكبة هجينة مكونة من مادة أساس بوليمرية هي عبارة عن راتنجات البولي استر الغير المشبع ومقواة بأنواع مختلفة من مواد التقوية الليفية ( الياف الكفلر + الياف الكاربون + الياف الحديد).المواد المتراكبة الهجينة الليفية التي تحضيرها هي :* عينات مدعمة بالكفلر والياف الكاربون *عينات مدعمة بالكفلر والياف الحديد *عينات مدعمة بالياف الحديد والياف الكاربون والياف الكفلر استخدمت طريقة القولبة اليدوية في تحضير العينات المستخدمة في الاختبار. والاختبارات الميكانيكية تضمنت اختبار معامل المرونة في أزمان تعرض مختلفة الى الاشعة فوق البنفسجية . وكانت نتائج الاختبار الأفضل بالنسبة إلى العينات الثالثة مع الضعف الواضح في نتائج العيناتالاولى بالاضافة الى النقصان في قيم الخصائص مع زيادة فترة تعرض العينات الى الاشعة فوق البنفسجية.

Abstract

In this research study Hardness (shore D), Water absorption, Flexural, Impact Test, and Fracture Toughness of polymer nano composites.The polymer nano composites based on unsaturated polyester resin reinforced with Kevlar fibers (K.F). The samples are attended by hand lay – up method according to (Rule mixture) for various volume fractions of unsaturated polyester resin, fiber and carbon nanotube. The polyester resin was matrix strengthened with 3% volume fraction from Kevlar fiber and (0.5%, 1%, 1.5%, 2%( volume fractions of carbon nanotube. The water absorption, hardness (shore D), flexural test, impact testand toughness fracture properties were studied. Results showed that the water absorption increase with volume fraction increase of fiber with Carbon Nanotube, the sample (polyester+3%K.F+0.5% CNTs) has lower water absorption than other samples. The hardness (shore D), flexural test, impact testand toughness fracture for the sample (polyester+3%C.F+0.5% CNTs) has higher value for Nano- composites. Nano composites, Carbon nanotube, Kevlar fiber, Hardness (shore D), Water absorption, Flexural Strength, Impact Test, Toughness Fracture.

تم في هذا البحث دراسة الصلادة (شورD), امتصاصية الماء, مقاومة الكسر, اختبار الصدمة و متانة الكسر لمتراكبات نانوية ذات اساس راتنج البولي استر غير المشبع مقواة بألياف الكفلر. العينات جهزت بطريقة الصب اليدوي وفقالقاعدة الخلط لكسور حجمية مختلفة من راتنج البولي استر غير المشبع والالياف وانابيب الكاربون النانوية. راتنج البولي استر كان ارضية مقواة مع 3%كسر حجمي من الياف الكفلر و (0.5 ,1 ,1.5 , 2 ) % كسر حجمي لانابيب الكاربون النانوية. تم دراسة خواص امتصاصية الماء, صلادة (شور(D, اختبار الصدمة ومقاومة الكسر. اظهرت النتائج بان امتصاصيه الماء تزداد مع زيادة الكسر الحجمي للالياف مع انابيب الكاربون النانوية, العينه (بولي استر + 3% الياف كفلر + 0.5 % انابيب اكاربون النانوية) تمتلك اقل امتصاصية ماء من العينات الاخرى. الصلادة (شورD), فحص الكسر, فحص الصدمة ومتانة الكسر للعينه (بولي استر +3% الياف كفلر + 0.5 %انابيب الكاربون انانوية) تمتلك اعلى قيمه للمتراكبات النانوية.
