New records of Naidid worms (Oligochaeta: Naididae) in Euphrates River

Abstract

Naidid worms were sorted from 27 samples of aquatic macrophyta including ceratophyllum demersum , Potamogeton crispus and, Hydrilla verticellat with associated filamentous algae were collected from Euphrates River at Al-Mussayab city, 60 Km southwest Baghdad. The result of sorted worms revealed the presence of eight species of subfamily Naidinae, which are consider as new records for Iraq, including Stephensoniana trivandrana; Paranais frici, Ophidonais serpentine, Specaria josinae, Dero (Dero) evelinae , Dero (Aulophorus) indicus , Nais pseudobtusa and finally N. stolci. This investigation includes morphological descriptions for each species illustrated by identification criteria photos.

عزلت ديدان النايدد من 27 عينة من النباتات المائية شملت الانواع Ceratophyllum demersum وPotamogeton crispus و Hydrilla verticellat اضافة الى الطحالب الخيطية المرتبطة بها. جمعت العينات من نهر الفرات وسط مدينة المسيب 60 كم جنوب بغداد. اوضحت نتائج العزل تسجيل ثمانية انواع لاول مرة في العراق وشملت الانواع Stephensoniana trivandranaو Paranais friciو Ophidonais serpentine و Specaria josinae و, Dero (Dero) evelinae و Dero (Aulophorus) indicus و Nais pseudobtusa واخيرا" النوع N. stolci . تضمنت الدراسة ايضا" الوصف المظهري لكل نوعموضحا" بصور للصفات التشخيصية .

Abstract

The present study is concern with the interaction between the naidid worms diversity and the species of aquatic plant within which the worms found . For this purpose, two species of aquatic plant were used, Ceratophyllum demersum and Eichhornia crassipes. 12 samples of aquatic plants were collected , as one sample monthly for a period from September 2012 to September 2013 from different site on Tigris river within Baghdad City.From C. demersum, 1428 individuals, were sorted during the study period, related to 17 species. 12 species of subfamily Naidinae which are Chaetogaster limnaei , C. diastrophus , Ophidonais serpentine , Dero ( Dero) digitata. , D.(D.) evelinae , Nais pseudobtosa , N.simplex, N.stolci , N.Paradalis , N.elingius , N. variabilis and N. communis. In addition to five species of subfamily Pristininae, two species of Pristina , which are P. longiseta and . P. aequiseta, and three species of pristinella, which are P. . Jenkinae , P. sima , and P. osborni. Dero ( Dero) digitata was recorded the higher number of 430 individuals,with a percentage of 28.11% of the total sorted worms.About the aquatic plant Eichhornia crassipes, a total of 829 worms were sorted from it, which are related to six species of Naidinae , which are diaphanous , Ophidonais serpentine, Stylaria lacustris , Slavina appendiculata , N. variabilis and finally the species Allonais inaequalis. There was no any species of Pristininae sorted from this plant. The highest number of 467 individuals was recorded by the species Slavina appendiculata, with a percentage of 52.3% of the total number and 228 individual with a percentage of 25.5% was recorded by Allonais inaequalis.

استهدفت الدراسة الحالية العلاقة بين تنوع الديدان ونوع النبات المائي المتواجدة عليه . واستخدم لهذا الغرض نوعين من النباتات المائية، نبات الشلنت Ceratophyllum demersum ونبات زهرة النيل Eichhornia crassipes. جمعت 12 عينة من النباتات بواقع عينة واحدة في كل شهر و للفترة من ايلول 2012 ولغاية ايلول 2013 ، من مواقع مختلفة من نهر دجلة داخل مدينة بغداد . عزل من نبات الشلنت 1428 فرد تنتمي الى ثمانية اجناس تضم 17 نوع ، 12 نوع منعا يعود لتحت العائلة Naidinae ، هي الانواع Chaetogaster limnaei و C. diastrophus و Ophidonais serpentine و Dero digitata . و D. evelinae و Nais pseudobtosa و N.simplex و N.stolci و N.Paradalis و N.elingius و N. variabilis و N. communis ، اضافة الى خمسة انواع تعود لتحت العائلة Pristininae ، نوعين من الجنس Pristina هي P. longiseta و P. aequiseta وثلاثة انواع من الجنس Pristinella هي و P. . Jenkinae و P. osborni و P. Sima. وسجل النوع D. digitata اعلى وفرة عددي بلغت 430 فرد وشكل 28.11 % من المجموع الكلي للافراد المعزولة وسجل نسبة تردد 83%. اما نبات زهرة النيل فقد عزل منه 829 فرد تعود الى ستة انواع فقط هي الانواع C. diaphanous و Ophidonais serpentina و Stylaria lacustris و Slavina appendiculata و N. variabilis واخيرا" النوع Allonais inaequalis ولم يعزل اي نوع تابع لتحت العائلة Pristininae. هذا وقد سجل النوع Slavina appendiculata اعلى وفرة عددية بلغت 467 وسجل نسبة 52.3 %من مجموع الافراد المعزولة يليه النوع Allonais inaequalisوعزل منه 228 فرد بنسبة مئوية 25.5% من مجموع الديدان.

Abstract

The present study discusses spatial and temporal distribution of aquatic oligochaetes community as sorted from macrobenthic fauna collected during River Euphrates in Iraq. Extending from Al-Musayab district ( S1), Saddat Al-Hindiah district (S2) to Al-Hindiah district ( S3) .Twelve species of oligochaetes ( 9 genera ; 3 families) were determined during study period . Highest individual number were recorded in S3 ( 9954.56 ind../m2) during Jan. 2014 and the lowest number were recorded in S3 ( 222.2 ind./m2 ) during Oct.2013. The highest average monthly dencity was recorded during Dec. 2013 and Jan 2014, while the highest site average density was recorded in S3.Tubificid worms made up the majority component of aquatic oligocheata in investigated area of the river specially Limnodrilus spp. which include four species Limnodrilus hoffmeisteri (Claparede1862), L. claparedeians (Ratzal 1869), L. profundicola (Verrill,1871 ) L. udekemianus (Claparede1862). Stylaria lacustris was the most abundant Naidid worms.This study recorded two species as new records on Euphrates river {Spirosperma ferox (Eisen,1879), Pristina jenkinae (Stephenson ,1931) } and one species as new record on Iraqi fauna{ Bothrioneurun pyrrhum (Marcur,1842)}.
