Abstract

In this paper, the effect of positive corona discharge on the PH values of tap and distilled waters are studied in water liquid system. The photographs of the results show that the shape of water drop that formed in the end of capillary tube is extended into a cone as well as a blue glow appears at the end of capillary tube. The size of cone decreases with increases of applied voltage and because of the change distance between the liquid electrode and the surface of liquid, the cone diameter at the end of capillary tube oscillates with period approximately 1 Sec. In addition, the PH values of both tested waters are constant when the applied voltage is less than 5 KV, while when the exterinal applied voltage is equal to or greater than 5KV, the PH value of both water types are increases rapidly where the tap water shows increases rate larger than that for distilled water.

Abstract

Data for aluminum concentration in Baghdad raw and drinking waterhave been taken from Baghdad Mayoralty for the period of the year (2005-2006)and for six water treatment plants (Al-Karkh, East Tigris, Al-Wathba, Al-Karama,Al-Qadisia and Al-Dora). The available data were analyzed by using statisticalprograms like (spss, statistica, grapher and excel) .Relation with water qualityparameters was obtained like relation with pH and temperature. From the studythe pH value was found to be ranged between (7.45-7.85) in supplied water forminimum aluminum residual. From the contour plot results show that an equationhas been concluded which connect concentration with pH and temperature.Seasonal variation was also studied; maximum concentration found to be insummer season, at Al-Karama and Al-Wathba water treatment plantsconcentrations were constant during the period of the study. Comparison betweenwater treatment plants was also made, Al-Qadisia and Al-Karkh water treatmentplants have the best control conditions, aluminum concentrations were found tobe within the Iraqi drinking water quality standards (0.2 mg/l).
