Abstract

Abstract- Individuals of the two species of oligochaetes: Pristina longiseta and P. macrochaeta were identified from samples of bryophyta from shallow water areas at Al-Assafia creek which is connected to Shatt Al-Arab River. This is the first report of the two species in Iraq. The characteristic features of the two species were studied, the first important of these is the presence of dorsal setae, from the second segment in P. longiseta and from the fourth segment in P. macrochaeta. The setae of the third segment in P. longiseta are longer than the others and called giant setae. There is a conspicuous Prostomium which extends to form proboscis. Reproduction is by transverse fission which is called Paratomy.

المستخلص - تم تشخيص أفراد النوعين Pristina longiseta وP. macrochaeta في عينات من الطحالب الخيطية bryophyte المأخوذة من مناطق المياه الضحلة على جانبي نهر العسافية المرتبط مع شط العرب وهذا هو التسجيل الأول لهذين النوعين في العراق. وصفت الخصائص المظهرية لهذه الديدان وكان من أهم هذه الخصائص وجود الأهلاب الظهرية التي تتواجد ابتداءً من الحلقة الثانية بالنسبة للنوع P.longiseta وابتداءًا من الحلقة الرابعة بالنسبة للنوعP. macrochaeta. وتكون أهلاب الحلقة الثالثة أكبر طولاً من بقية الأهلاب بالنسبة للنوع الأول وتسمى بالأهلاب العملاقة giant setae. يظهر الفص الأمامي المسمى قبل الفم Prostomium بشكل واضح والذي يمتد مكوناً الخطم Proboscis، أما التكاثر فيتم من خلال الانقسام العرضي أو ما يسمى بالتبرعم Paratomy.

Abstract

Many specimens of both Pristina proboscidea Baddard, 1896 and P. aequiseta Bourne, 1891 , were collected from shallow water beside shatt Al-Arab River in Al-Garma village in Basrah governorate . Morphological characteristics were studied . The first important of these characteristics is the absence of elongated hair setae in Pristina proboscidea and the presence of giant ventral setae in the fourth segment of P. aequiseta . This is the first record of these two species of oligochaeta , Naididae in Iraq.

جمعت العديد من عينات Pristina proboscidea و P. aequiseta من مناطق المياه الضحلة بجانب شط العرب في ناحية الكرمة في محافظة البصرة ، ودرست خصائصهما المظهرية ، وكان من أهم هذه الخصائص عدم وجود أهلاب شعرية متطاولة بشكل مميز أكثر من غيرها في النوع P. proboscidea ، وأيضاً وجود الأهلاب البطنية العملاقة في الحلقة الجسمية الرابعة في النوع P. aequiseta . وهذا هو التسجيل الأول للنوعين في العراق

Abstract

A number of 3649 individuals of meiobenthic aquatic annelids worms were sorted from 40 samples of the aquatic plant Ceratophyllm demersum L. collected monthly from four different sites across River Tigris in Baghdad province during a period from February /2017 until December /2017. The sorted worms were identified to 16 species, 10 of them represented Subfamily Naidinae (58%), including Chaetogaster diastrophus, Paranais litoralis, Stylaria lacustris, S. fossularis, Ophidonais serpentina, , Nais simplex, Nais variabilis, Allonais inaequalis, , Dero (Dero) digitata, Dero (Aulophorus) furcata, Slavina appendiculata and Stephensoniana trivandrana . Two species of pristininae Pristina longiseta, and P. aequiseta, also identified and recorded a percentage of 6%, in addition to two species of family Aeolosomatidae, Aeolosoma variegatum, and A.hemprichi with a percentage of 36%. The result revealed that Aeolosoma variegatum was the most abundant species and recorded 1209 individuals with a percentage of 33.13%, followed by Stylaria lacustris and Cheatogaster diastrophus , which they recorded a total individuals number of 621 and 569 with a percentages of 17.01& 15.59% respectively, while the lowest percentage of individual number was recorded by Allonais inaequalis (0.71%). The highest individual numbers were recorded in July and August of 526 & 644 respectively. Site No.2 recorded the highest species richness (16 species) and highest individuals' number of 1127. The study was also included measure of the physicochemical parameters such as air temperature, water temperature, biochemical oxygen demand (BOD),PH, salinity, electrical conductivity (EC), ,turbidity, total suspended substance (TSS) and total dissolved substance (TDS). The result showed that the air temperature were (9.5-47) Co, water temperature (8.67-31.16)Co , BOD (0.46-4.7) mg/l,PH (7.941-8.125), salinity (0.2-0.4), EC (562-1043) ms/cm, ,Turbidity (6.92-215)NUT,TSS (1-94) mg/l and TDS(359-807)mg/l.

Abstract

The present study discusses spatial and temporal distribution of aquatic oligochaetes community as sorted from macrobenthic fauna collected during River Euphrates in Iraq. Extending from Al-Musayab district ( S1), Saddat Al-Hindiah district (S2) to Al-Hindiah district ( S3) .Twelve species of oligochaetes ( 9 genera ; 3 families) were determined during study period . Highest individual number were recorded in S3 ( 9954.56 ind../m2) during Jan. 2014 and the lowest number were recorded in S3 ( 222.2 ind./m2 ) during Oct.2013. The highest average monthly dencity was recorded during Dec. 2013 and Jan 2014, while the highest site average density was recorded in S3.Tubificid worms made up the majority component of aquatic oligocheata in investigated area of the river specially Limnodrilus spp. which include four species Limnodrilus hoffmeisteri (Claparede1862), L. claparedeians (Ratzal 1869), L. profundicola (Verrill,1871 ) L. udekemianus (Claparede1862). Stylaria lacustris was the most abundant Naidid worms.This study recorded two species as new records on Euphrates river {Spirosperma ferox (Eisen,1879), Pristina jenkinae (Stephenson ,1931) } and one species as new record on Iraqi fauna{ Bothrioneurun pyrrhum (Marcur,1842)}.
