Abstract

Objectives : Design this study to determine whether there was a relationship between gingival diseases and ABO blood groups .Methods : Data were collected from 129 subjects who were randomly selected from students referred to the Faculty of Dentistry .The study based on periodontal condition, blood group, and medical history. The effects of blood subgroups on periodontal health, gingivitis and periodontitis were investigated separately.Results : In the present study, all the cases were first segregated into groups based on Loe and Silness index as: group I (mild (initial) gingivitis), group II (moderate( early) gingivitis), and group III (sever (established) gingivitis), and were further divided into four grades based on Ramfjord's Periodontal Index. Blood samples were analyzed to determine blood group and Rhesus factor.Conclusions : ABO blood subgroups and Rh factor may constitute a risk factor on the development of periodontal disease. However, long-term studies are needed to make a more comprehensive assessment of the effects of ABO group on periodontal diseases.

الأهداف: تصميم هذه الدراسة لتحديد ما إذا كانت هناك علاقة بين أمراض اللثة وفصائل الدم ABO.الطرق: تم جمع البيانات من 129 شخص الذين تم اختيارهم بشكل عشوائي من الطلاب المشار إليهم في كلية طب الأسنان. اعتمدت هذه الدراسة على حالة اللثة، فصيلة الدم، والتاريخ الطبي. وقد تمت دراسة تأثيرات مجموعات الدم الفرعية على صحة اللثة، التهاب اللثة والتهابات اللثة بشكل منفصل.النتائج: في هذه الدراسة، تم فصل جميع الحالات الأولى إلى مجموعات على أساس مؤشر Loe و Silness على النحو التالي: المجموعة الأولى (خفيفة ( ابتدائي) التهاب اللثة)، المجموعة الثانية (معتدلة(مبكر) التهاب اللثة)، والمجموعة الثالثة (حادة (الثابتة)التهاب اللثة)، وقسمت إلى أربع درجات على أساس مؤشر Ramfjord في اللثة. وقد تم تحليل عينات الدم لتحديد فصيلة الدم وعامل Rh .الاستنتاجات: مجموعات الدم الفرعية ABO وعامل Rh قد يشكلا عاملا خطرا على تطوير التهاب اللثة. ومع ذلك، هناك حاجة لدراسات على المدى الطويل لإجراء تقييم أكثر شمولا لتأثيرات مجموعة ABO على أمراض اللثة.

Abstract

Background: There exists ignorance of blood groups among many people and surprisinglyeven among the literates. Despite the importance of this health parameter in blood transfusion,it is also one of the requirement of obtaining driving license and national identity card.Objectives: The objectives of this study were to determine the frequency of the bloodgrouping (ABO) and Rhesus (Rh) factor of the blood groups and to determine the awarenesson the importance of blood grouping among the study's populationSubjects and methods: The total number of sample size of this study was 278 students wereselected randomly. The study was carried out among two cohort of student's population. Firstcohort was 168 medical students from Faculty of Medicine, while second cohort included 110non-medical students from Baquba Technical Institute' students. The study samples have theirblood groups determined according to that documented before. While those who don’t knowtheir ABO & Rh blood grouping marked as DK.Results: The result of this study shows that the rate of blood grouping were 25.5%, 22.3%,32.0%, 6.1%, and 16.9 %, for blood group A, B, O, AB, and DK respectively ;while forRhesus factor blood grouping the results revealed that the rates were 77.0%, 6.1% and 16.9%,for positive, negative and DK respectively.Conclusion: The blood group O with Rh positive was the most common prevalent among theselected groups, Knowledge of blood group distribution is important for clinical studies, forreliable geographical information and for forensic studies in the population.

Abstract

Objective:-The presence of specific type of blood group antigens have beenassociated with various diseases, with antigens also acting as receptors forinfectious agents and the relative susceptibility of some blood group phenotypes tocertain oral diseases has been investigated. Also, the poor oral health and developof some oral disease has previously been related to high body mass index (BMI).Aims of the study :-The the aim of this study was to indicate if any associationbetween ABO blood system and body mass index with several oral diseasesincludes gingivitis and periodontitis.Material and method :-A total of (82) subjects were included in this study collectedfrom hospital of dentistry college from February to July,2013,divided into threegroups as those with gingivitis, periodontitis, and the healthy ones considercontrol group, aged between (10 and 55 )years were selected on a random basis .ABO blood groups were detected by using slide agglutination method aftercollected of blood samples .BMI was measured for all groups.Results: The results of this study reported that blood group type (O) appear in highpercentage ( 50%) among patients group include( gingivitis and periodontitis ),andthe blood group (A)showed a high percentage ( 47.67%) in healthy group withstatistical significant differences (p <0.05) while, the least rate of blood group inoral disease group were (AB)( 7.5%) and ( O and B)(14.29%) in control. Theresults of RH factors showed a significant increase of Rh-positive in all examinedgroups. The body mass (mean ±SD) (26±3.056) kg/m2was significantly higherpatient group when compared to control(BMI= 22.71±3.241) kg/m2 with pvalue< o.o5 .while the statistical analysis revealed there were non-significantdifferences according to type of blood groups between male and female and themean of BMI not differed between gingivitis and periodontitis p>0.05.Conclusion: Significant relationships between ABO blood type and body mass indexwith most common oral disease while RH results revealed no significantdifferences were recorded between control and oral disease.

Abstract

Background: The ABO blood groups and Rhesus factor are different in their susceptibility and resistance to various diseases. The role of ABO blood group has long been a subject of investigation and debate. Typhoid and paratyphoid disease is commonly encountered a systemic disease caused by gram negative bacteria Salmonella typhi and Salmonella paratyphi. Because of the presence of favorable predisposing factors for transmission of typhoid disease among children in Kurdistan.Objective: To find the occurrence of Salmonella typhi and Salmonella paratyphi among children, with their distribution among different blood groups.Patients and Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out on 300 subjects were randomly selected from children who were likely to be infected with typhoid or paratyphoid fever in Raparin Teaching Hospital in Erbil. Blood sample were taken for performing ABO blood grouping, widal test and blood cultures. Results: Result of the study reveals (31.33%) and (34.33%) of children were infected with Salmonella typhi and Salmonella paratyphi. The highest typhoid/paratyphoid was observed among blood group O, thus it was most susceptible group. The least was noticed among blood group AB children which is the most resistant. Conclusion: Results have revealed significant association between ABO blood group and susceptibility to typhoid/paratyphoid infections.

خلفية الدراسة: حمى التيفوئيد هو مرض يحدث عن طريق بكتريا السالمونيلا, وهو من الامراض المنتشرة بين الاطفال في كردستان العراق. وذلك بسب وجود عوامل مساعدة لانتقال المرض بسبب سوء الصرف الصحي و نقص المياه الصالحة للشرب. ان فصيلة الدم ABO وعامل Rh له دور في مقاومة الامراض المختلفة ولطالما كان موضوع بحث ودراسة.اهداف الدراسة: لدراسة حدوث مرض حمى التيفوئيد بين الاطفال وعلاقته بفصائل الدم المختلفة.المرضى والطرائق: اجريت هذه الدراسة على (300) طفل تتراوح اعمارهم بين (1-12) سنة في الفترة( حزيران/2017) الى (ايلول/2018). لقد تم جمع عينة دم من كل طفل واجراء الاختبارات لمعرفة الاصابة بالمرض وتحديد فصيلة الدم لكل طفل.النتائج: لوحظ ان الاطفال ذات فصيلة O هم الاكثر اصابة بالمرض, بينما الاقل عرضه للاصابة هم الاطفال ذات فصيلة الدم AB .الاستنتاجات : كشتف هذه الدراسة عن وجود علاقة معنوية بين فصيلة الدمABO وحمى التيفوئيد ونظير التيفوئيد.
