Abstract

ABSTRACT:BACKGROUND:Dermabrasion is an abrasive process used to remove the epidermis and superficial dermis to treat a variety of skin conditions.OBJECTIVE:To evaluate sandpaper as a tool for dermabrasion for the treatment of acne scar and amateur tattoo.PATIENTS AND METHODS:This is an open labeled therapeutic trial. It was conducted at the outpatient department of Dermatology and Venereology - Baghdad Teaching Hospital, during the period between January 2003 and December 2004.Ten patients (seven males and 3 females) were enrolled in this work. Their ages ranged from 20-34 years with the a mean ± SD of 26.80 ± 4.34 years. Five with acne scars on their faces and 5 with amateur tattoos in the upper extremities.. From each patient history was taken and physical examination was performed. Pre-operative medications and instructions were given to each patient. The procedure was done under local anesthesia. Postoperatively all patients were instructed to use steroid-antibiotic ointment and hydroquinon-tretinoin thereafter. Follow up was done after 1weak, 1month, and 3 months. Repeated sessions may be needed 1 month apart.Acne scars: Lesions were assessed for correction of contour (unchanged, partially changed, or completely changed), and for complications that might follow.Amateur tattoos: Lesions were assessed for percentage of pigments removal (70%, 80%, 90%, and 100%), and for complications that might follow.RESULTS:Ten patients completed the study.Acne scar group: Three patients achieved partial change of contour after 2 sessions, while complete change of contour was noticed in 2 patients after 4, and 6 sessions respectively. The procedure resulted in very fine, less noticeable scar with smooth contour of the skin which was acceptable in all patients.Amateur tattoos group: Complete removal of pigments was achieved in one patient, more than 90% in 3 patients, and more than 80% in 1 patient. No significant complications were seen apart from mild erythema and mild infection in one patient with amateur tattoo. Temporary post inflammatory hypopigmentation in two patients with tattoo. Three patients had mild scar after removal of tattoo.CONCLUSION:Sandpaper dermabrasion is an effective mode of treatment for acne scar and amateur tattoo. It is safe in dark skinned people.

Abstract

Background: Atrophic postoperative and traumatic scarring are common cosmetic problems for patients. Combining CO2 laser ablation with a fractional photothermolysis system in a treatment known as ablative fractional resurfacing fulfilling the new demands for a lesser risk of side effects and minimal or no downtime. Objective: To assess the safety and efficacy of ablation fractional CO2 laser treatments for surgical scarring .methods: Twenty one patient ( 14 women, and 7 men ) with various skin types , I to IV , aged 3 to 48 years , presents with 24 scars between June and December 2012 , four patients excluded from study because they are not continued in follow up , the remaining 17 patient completed all 3 treatments & 6 months follow up.Results: Adverse effects of treatment were mild to moderate , and no scarring or delayed onset hypopigmentation was observed, For all patients demonstrated improvements in skin texture and reduction of pain and discomfort and improvement of tenderness and hardness of the scar which become more soft and mature .Conclusions: The ablation CO2 laser treatment represent safe , effective treatment modality for improving scar quality , texture, maturation and appearance. Keywords: Ablative fractional lasers, CO2 lasers, traumatic scars, atrophic scars.

Abstract

Burns are generally classified into four types: Thermal burns (flame, flash and contact with hot objects), Scald burns (hot fluids), Chemical burns (necrotizing substances like acids and alkali) and Electrical burns (intense heat from an electrical current). Skin burns can leave scar tissue ranging from mild to extensive. This study is an attempt to show the effect of fractional carbon dioxide laser (10.6 µm) as a treatment modality in regard to dose and application parameters to treat post-burn scars in different body regions like face, neck and chest.(31)Patients complaining from post-burn hypertrophic and atrophic scars were examined and treated in Al-Wasity Teaching Hospital from June 2011 to September 2012 using fractional carbon dioxide laser system (ALT). The sites of post-burn scars were: the face, neck, chest and some in the back, upper and lower limbs. After treating patients with fractional CO2 laser, the results are easy and short duration procedure with no or minor complications, very good patients’ response and high satisfaction because of its unique healing properties and depth of penetration. At the end of this study, we found that fractional CO2 laser resurfacing of burn scars proved to be a therapeutic option for the extensive scarring and provides faster healing and recovery than the traditional treatments.

These bad effects of illusion contrast with reality that Friedman shown through the faith in Jesus, real friendship, real love.Sheshowed the complete reality of human beingsviathe death of themain character "Jade". The paper presented the findings that the writer explainedby making the contrast between illusion of life and reality of death to focus on the problems of modeling life. Finally, Friedman approved that there is no everlasting beauty, no real friendship in the life of appearance, no real love in the life of temptations and modeling career is not a perfect one as being thought by young girls.
