Abstract

Background: Numerous epidemiological studies were conducted in Iraq, concerning dental caries and relatedetiological factors however; most of these studies were concerned with pre-and primary school children and/or thoseat index ages (12-15years old). At the time studies regarding older ages are very limited. This study was done todetermine the prevalence and severity of dental caries and treatment need among high schools girls (16-18 yearsold) in Al-Mussayb city, Babylon Governorate. Thus, it can be considered as a base line data that allows studyingdental caries among permanent dentition, also allows the comparison with other studies in other parts of the world.Material and Method: A total number of 900 high school girls were examined in their classroom following the methodof WHO. Dental caries was recorded by application of DMFT/DMFS index, and dental treatment needs followingcriteria of WHO.Results: The prevalence of dental caries was 70.5% with a mean DMFT/DMFS values (3.30 ±SE 0.091, 4.94 ±SE 0.161)respectively. A statistically highly significant increase of caries-experience was recorded with aging. The highestpercentage of girls needed one surface restoration (60.8%).Conclusion: A relatively high caries – experience was present among high school girl in Al Mussayb city indicating theneed for preventive programs

Abstract

The relationship between the man and his environment is a mutual relationship where each one of the impacts the other. To study the environmental preferences among preparatory school students, light should be focused on the circumstances that the students passed through in which he is more likely to produce, perform, achieve create and learn. The environmental preferences, just like learning preferences, has variation according to the study courses that the student takes and the nature of the tasks that he performs as well as the common social relations among his group.

منذ بداية الخلق على سطح الارض وللحياة البشرية علاقة بالبيئة التي وجد فيها فهي الاطار الذي يحيا فيه الانسان ويستمد منه كل مقومات حياته, وللإنسان وبيئته علاقه متبادلة فكل منهما يؤثر في الاخر, ولدراسة التفضيلات البيئية لدى طلبة الإعدادية سلط الضوء اتجاه الظروف التي من خلالها يكون الطالب اكثر احتمالية للإنتاج والانجاز والابداع والتعلم, وللتفضيلات البيئية تباينات شانها في ذلك شأن التفضيلات التعليمية بحسب المواد الدراسية التي يأخذها الطالب وطبيعة المهمات التي ينجزها والعلاقات الاجتماعية السائدة ضمن مجموعته.

Nutritional Status and Food Behavior among Primary School Students in Duhok City

Abstract

Background: The assessment of nutritional status as a part of school health component, can serve as a screening tool to identify children who need nutritional intervention and to prevent further deterioration in their nutritional status with reducing the risk of poor school performance. Objective: Evaluate the primary school students' nutritional status in Duhok City and find out the relationship between students' nutritional status with their food behavior.Methodology: A cross sectional study was conducted throughout the period 25th November 2014 to 25th November2015. Cluster stratified simple random sampling of (700) primary school students who aged 6-12 years were selected from 41 primary schools in Duhok city. Food behavior and socio- demographic data were obtained by direct interview. In addition, height and weight measured in order to calculate body mass index of primary school age children. A questionnaire was modified as a tool of data collection and utilized the height and weight scales for measuring student`s height and weight for the purpose of the present study. Data were analyzed through the use of descriptive and inferential statistical analysis approaches.Results: the present study showed highest percent (57.1%) of primary school student's nutritional status was healthy weight and more than two third of them were at somewhat healthy food behavior (71.3%). In addition to highly significant relationship between such nutritional status of primary school students and their food behavior with P. value (0.001).Conclusion: The present study revealed that the primary school students' nutritional status is influenced by their food behavior.Recommendations: The researchers recommended that schools of Duhok City, health care system and parent should involve in establishing nutritional educational program steps, guidelines, inclusion of health related nutritional topics in school curriculum with yearly screening children including: checking height, weight and BMI according to age.

خلفية البحث: تقييم الحالة التغذوية كجزء من مكونات الصحة المدرسية يمكن أن تكون بمثابة أداة لفحص وتحديد الأطفال الذين يحتاجون إلى التدخل الغذائي ومنعا لمزيد من التدهور في وضعهم الغذائي مع تقليص احتمالات الضعف في أداءهم المدرسي.هدف الدراسة: تقييم الوضع التغذوي لتلاميذ المدارس الابتدائية في مدينة دهوك ومعرفة العلاقة بين الحالة التغذوية للتلاميذ مع سلوكهم الغذائي. المنهجية: دراسة مقطعية تم اجراؤها خلال الفترة ما بين 25 نوفمبر 2014 و25 نوفمبر 2015 من اجل معرفة الحالة التغذوية و السلوك الغذائي بين طلاب المدارس الابتدائية في مدينة دهوك. تم اختبار 700 طالب تراوحت اعمارهم بين 6-12 سنة من خلال اعتماد الخطوات (العنقودية والطبقية والعشوائية البسيطة) من 41 مدرسة ابتدائية في مدينة دهوك. البيانات المتعلقة بالسلوك الغذائي والبيانات الديموغرافية تم جمعهن من خلال المقابلة المباشرة مع أولياء أمور الطلبة. بالإضافة الى ذلك تم قياس طول و وزن الطالب لغرض حساب كتلة الجسم. الاستبانة تم تطويرها كأداة لجمع البيانات مع استخدام مقاييس الطول و الوزن لغرض قياس طول و وزن الطالب ضمن متطلبات هذه الدراسة. تم تحليل البيانات من خلال استخدام التحليل الاحصائي الوصفي والاستدلالي.النتائج :أظهرت هذه الدراسة ان أعلى نسبة (57.1٪) من الحالة التغذوية للطلاب في المدارس الابتدائية كان وزنهم صحي، وأكثر من ثلثيهم كانوا ضمن السلوك الغذائي الصحي إلى حد ما (71.3٪). بالإضافة إلى وجودعلاقة ذات دلالة معنوية عالية بين الوضع التغذوي لطلبة المدارس الابتدائية وسلوكهم الغذائي مع قيمة .P. (0.001) الاستنتاج: اظهرت هذه الدراسة تأثر الحالة التغذوية لطلاب المدارس الابتدائية بسلوكهم الغذائي.التوصيات: توصي الدراسة بأن تقوم مدارس مدينة دهوك ونظام الرعاية الصحية بوضع خطوات برنامج تعليمي تغذوي ومبادئ توجيهية وإدراج موضوعات ذات صلة بالصحة الغذائية في المناهج المدرسية كما ويجب شمول أولياء الأمور بذلك الشأن مع فحص الأطفال سنويا بما في ذلك فحص الطول والوزن ومؤشر كتلة الجسم وفقا للعمر.

Abstract

Background: Although the prevalence of smoking has been decreasing in the developed countries in recent years, the less developed countries,such as Iraq, are facing an impact from smoking prevalence rise. Objective: The study objective was to assess the prevalence of smoking andits correlates among secondary school students. Materials and Methods: A descriptive cross‑sectional epidemiological study was conductedon the secondary school students 4th, 5th, and 6th for males and females who were indiscriminately selected from 15 secondary schools locatedin Al‑Hilla cityBabylon ProvinceIraq during the period from March 7 to April 30, 2018. A questionnaire adapted from global school‑basedstudent health survey (2013) was used to collect data. Results: Of 860 students, only 810 responded and completed the questionnaire(response rate 94.2%). The overall prevalence of smoking was 32.0%, and the majority of smokers were male. The dominant type of tobaccosmoking in this study appeared to be a hookah in about two‑thirds (one‑third exclusive hookah smoking and one‑third mixed hookah andcigarette smoking), and multiple reasons have been found to impulse the student to smoking and that the friend was the first tobacco source.A significant association has been found between tobacco smoking and gender, age, grade, income, marital status, having alive parents, abuse,early age work, school performance, having a family member with medical diseases, family relationship, and sleeping difficulties (P < 0.05).Conclusion: The high prevalence of smoking was revealed among secondary school students, especially hookah tobacco smoking, and somefactors appear to play a pivotal role in smoking initiation. Hence, preventive measures need to be applied.

Abstract

Objective(s):To evaluate the quality of life among secondary and to find out the relationship between students'quality of life and their socio-demographic characteristics of age, gender, residence, marital status, father's and mother's education, and family financial status in Kirkuk City.Methodology: A cross-sectional study is conducted on (100) studentwho are boys and girls aged(13 to 24) years old. These subjects are studying at secondary schools in Kirkuk City.The study is carried out at secondary schools in Kirkuk City from 7th July 7th 2014 to May 7th 2015. A questionnaire is constructed for the purpose of the study which is consisted of three parts: The first part includes the demographic data (7) items, the second part is concerned with the medical datawhich is consisted of (3) items and the third part is dealing with the quality of life of students which is consisted of (25) items to evaluate thequality of life among these students. Data are collected through the use of the questionnaire and the interview technique. They are analyzed through the application of descriptive statistical analysis approach which includes frequency, percentage, mean and mean of scores and inferential statistical data analysis approach which includes chi-squared test,T-test and analysis of variance (ANOVA) by using the statistical package of social science (SPSS) version (17).Results: The study findsthat most of the students are between (17-20) years old who are accounted for (65%). The results depict that (53%) of the sample is girl.With regard to their residence, (88%) of them are living in urban areas.Also the study concludes highly significant relationship between the quality of life of these students and their age.Recommendations: The study recommends that social worker should be present in schoolsin order to solve their problems. New center, for fathers and mothers, should be established to teach them about how to deal with the students' needs. Secondary school curriculum should include topics concerning the quality of life for these students.

الأهداف:تهدف الدراسةَ إلى تُقويّمَ جودة الحياة لطلبة المدارس الثانويةِ في مدينة كركوكبالإضافة إلى إيجاد العلاقة بين هذه الجودة لهؤلاء الطلبة وبعض الخصائص الديموغرافية مثل العمر والجنس والسكن والمستوى التعليمي للأبوين والحالة الاقتصادية المنهجية:أجريت دراسة عرضية على عينة عنقودية مكونة من(100)طالب وطالبة تتراوح أعمارهم بين (13- 24)سنةً من المدارس الثانويةِ في مدينةِ كركوك وللفترة من السابع من تموز 2014 ولغاية السابع من أيار 2015،ولغرض جمع المعلومات صممت إستمارة إستبيانة مكونة من ثلاثة أجزاء: الجزء الأول شمل الخصائص الديموغرافية ويتضمن من (7) فقرات والجزء الثاني شمل الخصائص الطبية ويتضمن من (3) فقرات والجزء الثالث ويشمل جودة حياة الطلبة ويتكون من (25) فقرة. بطريقة المقابلة الشخصية مع عينة البحث جمعت البيانات وتم تحليلها بإستخدام إسلوب التحليل الإحصائي الوصفي والذي يشمل التوزيع التكراري والنسبة المئوية والوسط الحسابي للقيم، وإسلوب التحليل الإحصائي الإستنتاجي والذي يشملإختبار مربع كاي والاختبار التائي وتحليل التباين باستخدام برنامج الحزم لإحصائية للعلوم الاجتماعية (SPSS)النسخة السابعة عشرة.النتائج : أظهرت النتائج بأن أغلب أعمار الطلبة كَانتْ بين (17-20) سنة وتُمثّلُ (65%) و(53 %) مِنْ العيّنةِ كَنْ فتيات. فيما يتعلق بالسكنِ،فإن (88%) كَانواْ يَعِيشُون في المناطقالحضرية.إستنتجت الدراسة وجود علاقة قوية بين جودة الحياة للطلبةوأعمارهم.التوصيات:أوصت الدراسة إلى ضرورة وجود موظفَ خدمات اجتماعية في المدرسةِ يقوم على حَلّ مشاكلِ الطلبة. تأَسّيسْ مركز حديثَ للإباء والأمهاتِ لتَعليمهم حول احتياجات الطلبة.يَحتاجونَ منهجَ المدارس الثانويِة يَجِبُ أنْ يَتضمّنَ المنهج الدراسي للمدارس الثانوية المواضيعَ التي تَتعلّق بجودة الحياة.

Abstract

Objective: The study aim to evaluate secondary schools students' exposure to risk factors in Al-Najaf City. Methodology:Descriptive study conducted in Al- Najaf City/Iraq on students at secondary schools, those aged (12-24) years old, for the period from the 13ed of November 2015 and up to 4ed of August 2015. The sample included secondary school from those schools . Data is collected through a constructed questionnaire, reliability and students (intermediate and secondary) (540) student; (270) male and (270) females who are selected randomly content validity process has been determined for the instrument. Data is analyzed by using of descriptive and inferential data analysis methods.Results: The findings of the study present that secondary schools students are exposed to risk factors with high significant , numerous risks directly linked to their behavior , their families , their schools and to their community .Recommendations: The study recommends to emphasis on the need for the cooperation between the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education on plans for the wellbeing of students and protection from risk behaviors and provision of adequate support and guidance , and emphasis on the role of parents in protecting their children through educating them by a guidance programs.

الهدف: تهدف الدراسة الى تقويم طلبة مدارس الثانوية الذين يتعرضون لعوامل الخطورة في مدينة النجف. المنهجية: أجريت دراسة وصفية في مدينة النجف الاشرف/ العراق على طلبة المدارس الثانوية من عمر (12-24) للفترة من 13 من تشرين الثاني 2015 ولغاية الرابع من شهر اب 2015. شملت العينة طلبة المدراس الثانوية (المتوسطة والاعدادية) (540 طالب) ذكور (270) وإناث (270) والذين أختيروا عشوائيا" من تلك المدراس. جمعت المعلومات من خلال تصميم أستبانة تم تحديد عملية ثباتها وصدقها. عملية تحليل البيانات تمت باستخدام أساليب الإحصاء الوصفي والاستدلالي.النتائج: أظهرت نتائج الدراسة أن طلبة المدارس الثانوية يتعرضون لعوامل الخطورة ذات دلالة معنوية عالية والتي ترتبط ارتباطا مباشرا بسلوكهم، أسرهم، مدارسهم ومجتمعهم.التوصيات: توصي الدراسة إلى التأكيد على ضرورة التعاون بين وزارة الصحة ووزارة التربية على وضع الخطط للنهوض بصحة الطلبة وحمايتهم من السلوك الخطر بتوفير الدعم والإرشاد الكافي لهم، والتركيز على دور الآباء في حماية أبنائهم وتأهيلهم من خلال تثقيفهم ببرامج التوجيه.

Abstract

Aims: To evaluate the oral hygiene and gingival health among secondary school students and to find ifthere was any variation between age and sex groups in Mosul City Centre. Material and Methods: Asample of 630 students aged 16–18 years old (278 males, 352 females) were examined using plaqueindex score and gingival index. The clinical examinations were carried out in the school using planemouth mirrors, WHO periodontal probes to detect the dental plaque and gingival health. Results:Showed that the mean plaque score for the total sample was 0.96, the plaque index increased with age.Females reported less mean plaque scores than males with statistically significant difference betweenthem. The mean gingival score was 0.56 for the total sample and it increased with age. There was asignificant difference between males and females. The study revealed that 35.9% of the total sampledid not brush their teeth. Therefore the objective of dental health education to those subjects is to brushtheir teeth regularly and to improve the effectiveness of oral hygiene practice. Conclusion: Periodontaldisease is indirectly related to the exposure of bacterial plaque for long time which calls forcoordinated planning of preventive strategies and urgent priorities

Abstract

Aims: To determine the prevalence of dental caries among intermediate and secondary school students 13–16 years old to determine the age and sex difference and to obtain data that can help in planning preventive dental health programs for school students in Yemen. Materials and Methods: A random sample of 512 intermediate school students,449 secondary school students were examined. Interme-diate school student sample was divided into 3 age groups namely 13,14,15 and secondary school stu-dent sample was divided into 3 age groups namely 16,17,18 years old. The WHO methodology (1997) was used to assess the individual tooth status. Results: The mean DMFT for the total sample was 5.2±0.13; which increased with the increasing of age from 4.54 to 4.84 to 6.47 for the age groups 13,14,15 years old respectively; without significant sex difference as total 5.44 for males and 5.14 for total females. Results of dental caries for the secondary school students showed that the mean DMFT for the total sample was 5.98± 0.14, which decreased with the increasing of age from 5.60 to 6.49 to 5.85 for the age groups 16,17,18 years old respectively, with peak value at 17 years old without signifi-cant sex difference, 5.74 for total males, 6.21 for total females. Conclusion: The mean DMFT for both intermediate, secondary schools increased with increasing age with statistical significant difference with no sex differences.

Abstract

Aims: To evaluate the oral cleanliness and gingival health among intermediate school students and tofind if there was any variation between age and sex groups in Thamar–Yemen. Material andMethods: A sample of 596 students aged 13–15 years old (308 males, 288 females) were examinedusing plaque index score by Silness and Löe (1964) and gingival index by Löe and Silness (1963). Theclinical examinations were carried out in the school using plane mouth mirrors, WHO periodontalprobes to detect the dental plaque and gingival health. Results: The mean plaque score for the totalsample was 0.90. The plaque index was increasing with age, females reported less mean plaque scoresthan males with statistically significant difference between them. The mean gingival score was 0.52 forthe total sample and it was increasing with age with statistical significant difference. Females alsoreported less gingival scores than males with statistical significant difference between them. The study revealed that 45.1 % of the total sample did not brush their teeth. Conclusion: Gingival and periodontal diseases are indirectly related to the exposure of bacterial plaque for long time which calls for integrated, coordinated planning of preventive and treatment services as an urgent priority.

Abstract

Of the basic objectives of physical education lesson in the motor area is to learn and develop the basic motor skills of the games scheduled, and try researcher benefit from exercise harmonic style ring as a method of education to acquire the skills of handling and shooting hand reel for the students of the preparatory stage, researcher has used the experimental method is design control and experimental groups on sample of students in fourth grade preparatory and researcher concluded the existence of a positive effect of exercise harmonic style ring in learning skills under study and recommended the use of the method used to learn other skills and other games.

ملخص البحث من الأهداف الأساسية لدرس التربية الرياضية في المجال الحركي هو تعلم وتطوير المهارات الحركية الأساسية للألعاب المقررة، وحاول الباحث الاستفادة من التمرينات التوافقية بالأسلوب الدائري كأسلوب تعليمي في اكتساب مهارتي المناولة والتصويب بكرة اليد لطالبات المرحلة الإعدادية , وقد استخدم الباحث المنهج التجريبي ذا تصميم المجموعتين الضابطة والتجريبية على عينة من طالبات الصف الرابع الإعدادي واستنتج الباحث وجود تأثير ايجابي للتمرينات التوافقية بالأسلوب الدائري في تعلم المهارات قيد الدراسة وأوصى باستعمال الأسلوب المستخدم في تعلم مهارات أخرى والعاب أخرى.
