Effect of exogenous fibrolytic enzymes on digestibility and rumen characteristics in Shami goats

Abstract

Twelve Shami male goats with average weight 43.3±1.2 kg and 3-4 years old were usedto study the effect of exogenous fibrolytic enzymes (EFE) either pre–treated barley straw orsupplemented with concentrate diet at different levels (0, 2,and 4%) on nutrient digestibilityand rumen characteristics. All Shami goats were divided randomly into six groups (2 buckseach). All goats individually fed concentrate diets in a 2×3 factorial experiment according tomaintenance requirement at 1% live body weight (LBW) while barley straw was offered adlibitium. The results showed that all nutrients digestibilities were not significantly affected bymethods of application, levels of EFE and their interaction. There were numerical increaseswith increasing levels of EEE on dry matter (DM), organic matter (OM), nitrogen (N), neutraldetergent fiber (NDF) and acid detergent fiber (ADF) digestibilities (%). Ruminal pH,ammonia–N, total volatile fatty acids (TVFA) concentrations, percentage of acetate, propionateand butyrate, were also not affected significantly by methods of application, levels of EFE andtheir interaction. There were numerical increased in TVFA and numerical decreased in NH3-Nconcentrations as levels of EFE increased.The results of this study indicated that both methods of application EFE may enhancedigestibility and rumen fermentation in Shami goats when used higher enzyme levels.

Detection of single and multiple pregnancy depending on placentomes measurement in Shami goats in Iraq by Ultrasonography

Abstract

The aims of present study were designed to determine the relationship between fetal number single or twin and placentome measurement by real time Ultrasonography at different stage of pregnancy. Twenty mature female of shami goats were synchronized for estrus with vaginal sponges impregnated with 60 mg of medroxey progesterone acetate (MAP) (Esponja-vet – spanin) under strict hygienic conditions, the sponges were inserted by applicator for 14 days, following by eCG (Folligon) intra muscularly injection each female goats (doe) received 500 IU Folligon. At the time of sponges withdrawl, estrus detection was done and each doe expressed estrus sings serviced naturally by buck proven fertility to obtain pregnancy. Result showed 100% of female express estrus after synchronized Ultrasound examination was performed by trans-rectally with linear probe (7.5 and 5 MHz) in early stage of pregnancy and using sector probe (3.5MHz) to trans-abdominal examination, the examination of animal started done from day 30 to 100 post mating every 5 day. The placentome was observed at first time of pregnancy at day 30 by using trans rectal examination with liner probe as an echo-genic parts on the surface of endometerium. The study showed a significant effect (P≤0.05) in placentome growth and gestation age. The placentome diameter reached maximum size at days 91-100 and was 34.76 ± 0.41mm. Also the present study showed no significant differences between placentome diameter in single and twin pregnant doe at (P≤0.05). The average of placentome size in single and twin was respectively, 7.72 ±0.46 mm and 8.42±0.34 mm at day 30-41 of gestation, the measurements reached high value (34.76 ± 0.41 mm) at day 91-100 of pregnancy. In conclusion the detection of gestation age in Shami goats according to placentome measurement was not a reliable method after day 90-100 of gestation. Also the placentome diameter measurement is not a practical method for diagnosing fetal number (single, twin) in pregnant Shami does.

هدفت الدراسة الحالية تحديد العلاقة بين عدد الأجنة (مفرد، توأم) وقياس قطر الفلقة بالموجات فوق الصوتية مع مجس خطي ذي التردد 5،7.5 ميكا هيرتز عند مراحل مختلفة من الحمل في الماعز الشامي. أجريت الدراسة في محطة البحوث الزاعية ابي غريب على 20 انثى ماعز شامي متعددة الولادات. أجري توحيد الشبق لحيوانات التجربة وأظهرت جميع الحيوانات الشبق 100% واعتبر يوم التلقيح صفر لتثبيت بدا الحمل. اجري الفحص خلال المدّة من 30- 100 وبفاصل زمني 5 ايام بين فحصين متتابعين وأظهرت النتائج إمكانية رؤية الفلقات الرحمية عند المدّة 30-40 يوم من الحمل على شكل تراكيب بيضاء فوق سطح بطانة الرحم باستعمال المجس الخطي المستقيمي (7.5 ميكاهيرتز) ولوحظ من الدراسة الحالية ان هناك فرقاً احصائياً بين نمو وتطور البلاسنتوم ومدّة الحمل حيث اظهرت الدراسة وجود زيادة تدريجية تبعا لمدّة الحمل. وكان قطر الفلقة يصل اعلى حجم في اليوم 90 من الحمل. ونستنتج من الدراسة ان تقديرعمر الحمل في الماعز اعتمادا على قياس قطر الفلقات طريقة غير موثوق بها بعد مدّة 90-100 من الحمل وكذالك قياس قطر البلاسنتوم طريقة غير عملية في تشخيص نوع الحمل (مفرد، توام
