Abstract

Aim: The aimed study was to evaluate the influence of silver nitrate on surfacehardness and tensile strength of acrylic resins.Materials and methods: A total of 60 specimens were made from heat polymerizingresins. Two mechanical tests were utilized (surface hardness and tensile strength)and 4 experimental groups according to the concentration of silver nitrate used.The specimens without the use of silver nitrate were considered as control. Fortensile strength, all specimens were subjected to force till fracture. For surfacehardness, the specimens were tested via a durometer hardness tester. Allspecimens data were analyzed via ANOVA and Tukey tests.Results: The addition of silver nitrate to acrylic resins reduced significantly thetensile strength. Statistically, highly significant differences were found among allgroups (P≤0.001). Also, the difference between control and experimental groupswas highly significant (P≤0.001). For surface hardness, the silver nitrate improvedthe surface hardness of acrylics. Highly significant differences were statisticallyobserved between control and 900 ppm group (P≤0.001); and among all groups(P≤0.001)with exception that no significant differences between control and150ppm; and between 150ppm and 900ppm groups(P>0.05).Conclusion: The addition of silver nitrate to acrylics reduced significantly the tensilestrength and improved slightly the surface hardness.

Abstract

background: Autopolymerizing acrylic resin has multiple uses in dentistry such as, record base, orthodontics appliances, denture repair and other. Thedegree of polymerization of cold cured acrylic resin is not as complete as that achieved using heat cured system which leads to a higher degree of un-reacted residual monomer, which act as a plasticizer which results in high transverse deflection values lowering the transverse strength of the resin.Aim of the study: This study investigated the effect of the addition of different concentrations of silver nitrate (AgNO3) on transverse strength and impact strength of autopolymerzing acrylic resin.Materials and methods: A total of 80 specimens were prepared, 40 specimens were fabricated with dimensions of (64×10×2.5) mm to conduct the transverse strength test while the remaining 40 specimens were fabricated with dimensions of (80×10×4) mm to perform the impact strength test. 10 specimens of each group were fabricated from conventional autopolymerized acrylic resin while the remaining 30 specimens were fabricated from modified autopolymerized acrylic resin. Concentrations of 9.375,15 and 60 ppm of silver nitrate were used to modify the autopolymerized acrylic resin, 10 specimens of each concentration in each group were used.Results: The results of this study showed that the modified autopolytmerized acrylic had non-significant difference in transverse strength values for all concentrations of silver nitrate; while there was a significant difference in impact strength values for (15 and 60 ppm) concentrations of silver nitrate and non-significant difference in impact strength values for (9.375 ppm) concentration of silver nitrate .Conclusions: It can be concluded that the addition of (15 and 60 ppm) concentrations of silver nitrate can improve impact strength of autopolymerizing acrylic resin.

Abstract

Background: Polymers are very rarely used in their form. These modifications are carried out in order to improve theproperties of polymers.Recently silver have been used successfully as antimicrobial (medical and dental)biomaterials that can prevent caries and infection of implants. The aim of the present in vitro study is to evaluate theeffect of addition of silver nitrate to acrylic resin in different concentrationsthrough several tests part of these are: Theeffect of this additive on impact strength, transverse strength, and tensile strength of AgNO3 – loaded resin, and toassess any effect of addition of silver nitrate on coloration of acrylic resin.Materials and methods: Different concentrations of silver nitrate (9.375, 15, 30, 60, 120, 150, 300, 600 and 900 ppm)were prepared from stock solution of 1000 ppm silver nitrate. The specimens were prepared in accordance with themanufacturer's instructions and the tested silver nitrate solution was added to the acrylic resin powder and monomerin a fixed volume (0.2ml). Controls devoid of silver nitrate were included.Results: Fourier transform infra-red confirmed that there was no chemical bond between the Poly methylmethacrylate and silver nitrate. There was insignificant increasing (P=0.05) in impact strength observed whencompared with control group. In transverse strength test, significant reduction was show (P<0.001). While for tensilestrength there was insignificant reduction with 9.375(P=0.05NS) and 15(P=0.42NS) ppm silver nitrate. However, it wassignificant above 15 ppm (P<0.001). Darkening of silver nitrate -loaded resins were shown to be started withconcentration of silver nitrateof 300 ppm and above.Conclusions: The additions of silver nitrate to acrylic resins yield good color stability and mechanical properties,depending on the concentration of silver nitrate

Abstract

Multiple myeloma is a cancer that forms in a type of white blood cell called a plasma cell. Plasma cells help you fight infections by making antibodies that recognize and attack germs. This study aimed to investigate effect of aqueous extract and silver nanoparticles from Punica granatum peel on the ability of phagocytic cells in patients with Multiple myeloma. Chemical components of Punica granatum were investigated. It was found that they contained most of chemical compounds such as Glycosides, Flavonoids, Alkaloids, Saponins, Tanins, Resins, Terpenes, and Steroids. Our results showed the presence of a significant decrease (p˂0.001) in ability of phagocytic cells in patients, when the results were compared to the control group which included healthy individuals. While, the results showed increase in the percentage of phagocytic cells after added Punica granatum peel silver nanoparticles by increases activity of NADPH enzyme. This increase indicates that the Punica granatum peel silver nanoparticles contain chemical components which act as immune modulators by increase of the percentage of phagocytic cells to engulf bacteria.

المايلومة المتعدده هو مرض سرطاني يصيب الخلايا البلازمية مما يؤدي الى تكاثر هذه الخلايا بشكل غير طبيعي وتكدسها في نخاع العظم ويشكل نسبة 10% من الاصابات بسرطان الدم. هيأت النباتات الطبية بمختلف انواعها قاعدة اساسية ومهمة لأنظمة الطب التقليدية اذ تتم الاستفادة منها في توفير بعض انواع العقاقير التي تتميز بخلوها من الجوانب السلبية المؤثرة على اعضاء جسم الانسان على العكس من العقاقير الكيميائية التي لاتخلو من بعض تلك الجوانب.لذلك هدفت الدراسة الحالية الى أختبار تأثير الجزيئات النانووية لمستخلص قشور الرمان المائي في فعالية الخلايا البلعمية لمرضى المايلومة المتعددة Multiple myeloma , اذ تم تحضير المستخلص المائي لقشور الرمان وكذلك تم تحضير الجزيئات النانووية بطريقة نترات الفضة وتم التحري عن المحتوى الكيميائي للمستخلص المائي لقشور الرمان فوجد احتواءه على مركبات كيميائية عديدة مثل الكلايكوسيدات والفلافونات والقلويدات والصابونيات والتانينات والتربينات والراتنجات والسترويدات. تم أختبار فعالية الخلايا البلعمية على الالتهام لمرضى المايلومة المتعددة ومجموعة السيطرة قبل وبعد اضافة المستخلص المائي والجزيئات النانووية لقشور الرمان. أظهرت نتائج الدراسة الحالية قبل اضافة المستخلص وجود انخفاض معنوي كبير P˂0.001 في فعالية الخلايا البلعمية على الالتهام لمجاميع المرضى عند مقارنة النتائج بمجموعة السيطرة. أما بعد أضافة المستخلص المائي والجزيئات النانووية لقشور الرمان فقد أظهرت النتائج أرتفاعا ملحوظا في فعالية الخلايا البلعمية عن طريقة زيادة فعالية انزيم NADPH.هذه الزيادة قد تكون دليل على فعالية الجزيئات النانووية لقشور الرمان وعملها كمحورات مناعية من خلال زيادة النسبة المؤوية لقابلية الخلايا البلعمية على الالتهام.

In Vitro Comparative Assessment of Composite Nanoleakage Using Various Dentine Surface Treatments

Abstract

Background: The treatment of dental tissues proceeding to adhesive procedures is a crucial step in the bonding protocol and decides the clinical success ofrestorations. This study was conducted in vitro, with the aim of evaluating thenanoleakage on the interface between the adhesive system and the dentine treated by five surface modalities using scanning electron microscopy and energydispersiveX-ray spectrometry.Materials and methods: Twenty five extracted premolars teeth were selected in the study. Standardized class V cavities were prepared on the buccal and lingual surfaces then the teeth divided into five main groups of (5 teeth in each group n=10) according to the type of dentine surface treatment that was used: Group (A): dentine was conditioning with Er, Cr: YSGG laser. Group (B): dentine was conditioning with (Er, Cr: YSGG laser + acid). Group (C): dentine was conditioning with (acid + Er, Cr: YSGG laser). Group (D): dentine was conditioning with acid etch. Group (E): dentine was conditioning with acid + 10% sodium hypochlorite. For All the teeth SBMP adhesive were used and restored with Z250 composite restoration then all specimens were subjected to thermocycling 500 cycles, at 5° to 55 °C. The teeth were soaked in silver nitrate suspension. Then the teeth sectioned bucco-lingually across the centre of the restorations. The specimens were characterized using scanning electron microscopy and the amount of nanoleakage was measured by EDX spectro-analysis to identify the existence of metallic silver particles.Results: Data were analysed statistically by one way ANOVA test and (LSD) Tests. The results showed that there were statistically highly significant differences among all groups of the present study.The resultshowed that the acid and laser (group III) exhibited the lowest mean value of nanoleakage at around (6.14 %), whereas the highest mean value of nanoleakage (12.83 %) was determined by the only acid (group IV).Conclusions: Treating the acid etched dentine with Er: Cr: YSGG laser showed promising results as it exhibits lowest amount of nanoleakage of the adhesive bonding system

Abstract

It has developed a method for the detection of bacteria using solution of Silver nitrate in concentration of 2%, particular to spore forming and capsulated types of bacteria. The bacteria were fixed on the slid, and adding prepared silver nitrate solution to stain bacteria cells such as (Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Bacillus sp. Klebsiella sp. bacteria formation capsule, and Staphylococcus aureus) on the slide and left for ten minutes at room temperature. Later, exposing the slid to ultraviolet rays for 25 minutes where the color change of fixed bacteria sample on the slide to red - light brown color as a result of the reduction of silver metal which penetrate the cell. As result brighten bacterial cells were examine under an optical microscope, which distinguishes the bacterial cells.

طورت طريقة للكشف عن البكتريا باستخدام محلول السلفر نتريت بتركيز 2% وبشكل خاص لأنواع البكتريا المكونه للسبورات(الابواغ) والكبسولة. ذلك بإضافة المحلول المحضر لنموذج البكتريا المثبته على الشريحة وتركها لمدة عشرة دقائق(Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Bacillus sp. Klebsiella sp. bacteria formation capsule, and Staphylococcus aureus). ومن ثم تعريض الشريحة الى الاشعة الفوق البنفسجية لمدة 25 دقيقة حيث يلاحظ تغير لون نموذج البكتريا المثبته على الشريحة الى اللون الوردي- بني فاتح نتيجة اختزال معدن الفضة واختراق الفضة للخلية وبذلك تظهرالخلية البكترية بشكل مضيء تحت المجهر الضوئي مما يميز الخلية البكترية.

Synthesis of Silver Nanoparticles from Malva parviflora Extract and Effect on Ecto-5'- Nucleotidase(5'-NT), ADA and AMPDA Enzymes in Sera of Patients with Arthrosclerosis

Abstract

The present research included synthesis of silver nanoparticle from(1*10-3,1*10-4 and1*10-5) M aqueous AgNO3 solution through the extract of M.parviflora reducing agent. In the process of synthesizing silver nanoparticles we detected a rapid reduction of silver ions leading to the formation of stable crystalline silver nanoparticles in the solution. The characteristics of silver nanoparticles were studied by using UV-Visible absorption spectroscopy, and atomic force microscope (AFM) analysis. The AFM measurements showed that the average size of silver nanoparticles synthesized using (1*10-3,1*10-4 and1*10-5) M aqueous AgNO3 solution through the extract of M.parviflora were 102 to 114nm. UV-Vis spectra of the aqueous medium containing silver nanoparticles showed a surface peak at 220nm and 445nm for (1*10-3,1*10-4 and1*10-5) M aqueous AgNO3 solution through the extract of M.parviflora. The study of nanoparticles due to the possible application for the development of new technologies such as exhibited inhibitory effects on Ecto-5'- Nucleotidase (5'-NT), ADA and AMPDA enzymes in Sera of control and Patients with Arthrosclerosis. Further studies on other biological activities are required to exploit their full potential.

يتضمن البحث دراسة تحضير الدقائق النانوية من محلول نترات الفضة بتراكيز(1* (10-3و10-4 و10-5) مولاري باستخدام مستخلص نبات الخباز كعامل مختزل من خلاله تحديد سرعة اختزال ايونات الفضة لتكون الدقائق البلورية الاكثر استقرارا للفضة بالمحلول.تم دراسة الخصائص الطيفية باستعمال طيف (UV-visible)ومجهر القوة الذرية (AFM)للدقائق النانوية المحضرة حيث تراوحت حجم الدقائق النانوية (102-114) نانوميتر بينما ظهر طيف UV-visible)) قمم تراوحت بين 220_445 نانوميترعلى التوالي لتراكيز(1* (10-3و10-4 و10-5)مولاري من محلول نترات الفضة من خلال مستخلص النبات, الدقائق النانوية تظهر تاثيرها كمثبط للانزيماتEcto-5-Nucleotidase (5-NT),ADA and AMPDA المتواجدة في مصل الاشخاص الاصحاء والمرضى مع Arthrosclerosis .
