Immediate Implant Placement in Fresh Extraction Socket

Abstract

Background: In the traditional protocol, the patient should wait after extraction up to six months to place the dental implant in healed bone, this waiting time accompanied by varying degrees of alveolar bone changes. In order to overcome these problems, immediate implant placement in the fresh extraction socket was introduced. The Aim of this study was to evaluate the outcome of the immediate implant placement utilizing Resonance Frequency Analysis (RFA) to quantify implant stability and osseointegration.Materials and Methods: A total of (23) patients participated in the study, receiving (44) implants placed in the sockets of teeth indicated for extraction. Clinical and radiographic preoperative assessment was accomplished for each patient, β-TCP (combined with collagen membrane) was used to fill gaps ≥ (2 mm) and to repair bone defects. Implant stability quotient (ISQ) values were measured for the implants at baseline and at 16 weeks. Postoperative clinical and radiographic evaluation was applied for each patient.Results: A total of (22) patients received (41) implants completed the follow-up period, all these implants survived (100% survival rate) with no signs and symptoms of failure. The mean of ISQ value at baseline was (65.32±9.50), the mean of ISQ value at 16 weeks was (69.78±7.15), paired samples statistic showed high significant increase in the implant stability (P<0.01). Application of guided bone regeneration (GBR) showed no significant difference on ISQ value at baseline and at (16 weeks), but ISQ values increased significantly in GBR cases during the healing period.Conclusions: Immediate implant placement is a predictable treatment approach; it has the benefit of reducing treatment time and the numbers of surgical procedures when careful preoperative examination and appropriate intraoperative protocol is applied.

Abstract

Background: Piezosurgery device is a system developed recently to overcome the limitation of the traditional surgical technique in implant site preparation, which use the principle of ultrasonic microvibrations to create precise & selective cut in bone in harmony with the surrounding tissues. The aim of this study was to evaluate the outcomes of implants inserted by ultrasonic implant site preparation protocol (UISP) using piezosurgery device, regarding the survival rate, stability and other related factors, at 16 weeks postoperative follow up period.Materials and Methods: A total of (24) patients, (6) males and (18) females, aged between (19-51) years old, contributed in this study receiving a total of (42) implants, all of these implants bed were prepared by means of special tips mounted in piezosurgery device. For each patient thorough clinical and radiographical preoperative assessment was applied. Implant stability quotient (ISQ) values were measured at baseline, 8 weeks and at 16 weeks. Postoperative clinical and radiographic evaluation was applied for each patient for 16 weeks postoperatively.Results: (24) patients received (42) implants accomplished the follow-up period, After 16 weeks all implants (42) were osseointegrated and the overall implants survival rate was 100% with no failure and no complication was observed. The mean ISQ value at baseline was (74.32±6.42), the mean ISQ value at 8 weeks was (72.62±9.05) and at 16 weeks the mean ISQ (±SD) value was (76.68±7.35) the changes in the mean stability during the healing period showed significant increase in the implant stability (P≤0.05). At the 16th week the number of implants that achieved ISQ≥70 was 35 (83.3%), and 7 implants attained ISQ> 70 (16.7%).Conclusions: high and significant survival rate, significant secondary stability, early positive shifting of the mean ISQ value, no remarkable complications in implants inserted by ultrasonic implant site preparation indicated that piezosurgery is a reliable alternative and safe method used in dental implant osteotomy

Abstract

Background and objectives The prognosis of neuroblastoma varies widely depending on the age at diagnosis, extent of the disease and tumor biology. This study was undertaken to evaluate the pattern and the 4-year survival rates of children with neuroblastoma in Duhokcity, Kurdistan region, North of Iraq.Methods A total of 33 children with neuroblastoma who had been diagnosed at Heevi Pediatric Hospital, Duhok city, from January 2000 to January 2007 were evaluated for their age, sex, primary tumor site at diagnosis, histology, staging, treatment and outcome.Results The median age at diagnosis was 23 months (range 3-74 months), 19 patients were males and 14 were females with male-to-female ratio of 1.3:1. Adrenal gland was the commonest site of the primary tumor and abdominal distension was the most frequentpresentation. Favorable histology was seen in 19 (57.5%), and unfavorable histology in 14 (42.5%) patients. Complete surgical resection was performed after diagnosis in 6 patients, incomplete resection/debulking in 18 patients, 5 patients died before surgery, and in infants less than 12 months of age with stage 4S disease (4 patients) only biopsy was taken. Twentythree patients (69.6%) were diagnosed with stage 3 or 4 disease. All patients receivedchemotherapy. The 4-year disease free survival and the overall survival rate were 18.1% and 30.2 %, respectively.Conclusion The 4-year disease free survival and the overall survival rate of neuroblastoma patients in Duhok city were similar to that reported earlier from Baghdad but lower than those reported in other countries. Advanced stage of disease, incomplete tumor excision andincreased age at diagnosis were all associated with poor survival. Exploration of more novel therapeutic approaches is required to improve the outcomes of patients in our region.

خلفية واهداف البحث: ان التكهن بمصير النيوروبلاستوما يعتمد على عمر المريض، ومدى انتشار وبايولوجية الورم.يهدف هذا البحث الى معرفة نمط ومعدل البقاء على قيد الحياة بعد اربع سنوات, للاطفال المصابين بالنيوروبلاستوما في مدينة دهوك / شمال الع ا رق.طرق البحث: تمت د ا رسة 33 طفلا مصابا بالنيوروبلاستوما من الذين شخصوا في مستشفى هيفي التعليمي للاطفال / 2007 من حيث العمر، الجنس، الموضع الاولي للورم، نوع النسيج، مرحلة الورم، - مدينة دهوك للفترة من عام 2000 العلاج والمصير.1. الغدة الكظرية كان : النتائج: معدل عمر المرضى عند التشخيص كان 23 شه ا ر ونسبة الذكور الى الاناث كان 1.3 من اكثر المواضع الاولية للورم وانتفاخ البطن من اكثر علامات المرض. في 57.5 % من المرضى كان نسيج الورم ايجابيا وفي 42,5 % كان النسيج سلبيا. في 6 من المرضى استؤصل الورم كاملا، وفي 18 من المرضى استؤصل ال ورم جزئيا، وتوفي خمس من المرضى قبل اج ا رء العملية الج ا رحية. وفي اربع من المرضى الذين هم دون سنة من العمر تم اخذ خزعة بدون استئصال الورم. معظم المرضى شخصوا في مرحلة متقدمة من المرض، وجميع المرضى عولجوا كيمياويا. معدل البقاء بدون مرض ومعدل البقاء على قيد الحياة كانا 18.1 % و 30.2 % على الترتيب.الاستنتاج: ان معدل البقاء على قيد الحياة لمرضى النيوروبلاستوما في دهوك يشبه الى حد ما معدله في بغداد بينما اقل من الدول الاخرى، وقد ارتبط ذلك بتقدم عمر المريض عند التشخيص ووجود المرض في مرحلة متقدمة، وعدم استئصال الورم بشكل كامل. نحتاج الى طرق حديثة للعلاج من اجل تحسين مصير المرضى

Abstract

Common carp ( Cyprinus carpio L.) juveniles averaging 7.68± 0.25 - 8.12± 1.14 g in weight were used for 6 weeks to investigate their survival and growth preferences. The experimented carp were stocked at 12 tanks formerly adjusted with different pH levels values as: 6.0, 7.0, 8.0 and 9.0. Growth and survival of common carp was assessed every Sunday of each week. Growth rates significantly (P < 0.05 ) increased at pH 7 and pH8 respectively. Therefore, the results suggest that the water with pH ranged from 7 to 8 was the best range for growth performance and survival rate of carp. Feed conversion ratio (FCR) improved at pH 6 and 9 respectively. In general, the results indicated that water pH 7- 8 could be more appropriate to juvenile carp culture for best growth performance and survival rate.

Abstract

The present study was carried out to assess the effect of turmeric (curcoma longa) supplemented diet on growth performance, hematology and survival rate of Cyprinus carpio L. against the pathogenic bacteria Flexibacter columnaris. For this purpose, 180 common carp were used, 60 fish were used to determine LD50 and 120 fish were weighed and randomly distributed into six treatments (two replications for each treatment). Fish groups were fed six dissimilar diets up to 45 days, the first group was fed with 0.25% turmeric, the second group was fed supplemented with 0.5% turmeric, the third group was supplemented with 0.75% turmeric, the forth group was fed with 1% turmeric, the fifth group was supplemented with 1.25 % turmeric and the sixth group was served as the control group fed basal diet without supplementing with turmeric. After 45 days of feeding trail all fish in experimental groups were challenged intramuscularly with 0.2 ml F. columnaris at a concentration of 120 × 106 CFU/ml. after 45 day of feeding trail and post challenge the different parameters were determined including: growth performance, hematological parameters (WBC and RBC count, Hb content and PCV value) and survival rate were also determined. The obtained results showed that T5 was the best treatment followed by T4, T3, T2 and T1 respectively, which revealed a significant increase (P≤0.05) in comparison with the control group in all growth performance parameters (final weight, daily gain, SGR(%), relative growth rate, FCR and FCE%). RBC, HB and PCV% after 45 and 60 days (pre and post challenged with F. columnaris) revealed significant differences (P<0.05) in all experimental groups relative to the control group. In conclusion, our findings indicate that turmeric powder has improved the growth rate in C. carpio when challenged with F. columnaris. Also, addition of turmeric t into commercial feeds increased survival rate of carp fish challenged with a bacterial pathogen. This will be worth and useful for application in fish aquaculture.

Abstract

Aims: evaluate survival rate of dental implants. Determine correlations between bonedensity and stability. Determine which intervention to dental implant that increasestability.Materials and methods: Retrospective study of patients receiving implants in dentalimplant unit in educational hospital of collage of dentistry /Baghdad Universityduring period October 2012- October 2015. Individual data meta-analysis ofimplants stability using different interventions, which Are bone morphogeneticproteins, immediate dental implant, Ridge splitting, simvastatin drug, Platelet-Rich Plasma, Piezosurgery and control group.Results: survival rate was 98.33%. Implant length and posterior location statisticallysignificant effect on achieving high stability in control group. Posterior locationstatistically significant increase primary stability. After 2 months of surgerycomparing interventions and control group show simvastatin(P<0.001) increasestability and among variables diameter, length and mandibular locationstatistically significant increase stability. After 3 month simvastatin(P<0.001) andBone morphogenetic proteins(P=0.005) increase stability and mandibular location,length and diameter increase stability. After 4 months Piezosurgery statisticallysignificant lowering stability (P=0.004), and diameter statistically significantincrease stability.Conclusions: High survival rate achieved. No significant effect of variables onfailure rate of implants. Simvastatin and Bone morphogenetic proteins reducehealing time and improve stability but Piezosurgery lowering stability comperedto control. Posterior location affected primary stability but length and diameterincrease secondary stability. Bone density had no effect on primary and secondarystability.

Abstract

This study was designed to investigate the effect of adding different level of commercial dry yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae in three different concentrations with three treatments T1 (0%), T2 (3%), and T3 (7%) on growth performance of common carp Cyprinus carpio L., the trail was conducted for 56 days and by using 200 fingerlings common carp with mean initial weight (46g). Fish were acclimated to concrete ponds belongs to department of Animal Sources/ College of Agriculture/ University of Duhok. Fish were fed with control pellets (31% protein) prior to the feeding trials for 21 days. There was significant differences in the final weight attained by common carp at all levels of dry yeast incorporation as compared to the control diet. However, the addition of 7% dry yeast resulted in significantly increase in fish specific and relative growth rate.

صممت التجربة لبيان تأثير إضافة تراكيز مختلفة من الخميرة الجاهزة التجارية بثلاث تراكيز الى علائق الاسماك وكما يلي المعاملة الاولى T1 ( 0%) والمعاملة الثانية T2 (3%) والمعاملة الثالثة T3 (7%) في بعض عناصر الاداء الانتاجي لاسماك الكارب الشائع Cyprinus carpio L. استمرت التجربة لمدة 56 يوما، باستخدام 200 اصبعية بمعدل وزن ( 46 غم/ سمكة). تم اقلمة الاسماك لظروف التربية في احواض كونكريتية تابعة الى قسم الثروة الحيوانية/كلية الزراعة والغابات/ جامعة دهوك. وتم تغذيتها بعليقة تجارية ( نسبة البروتين 31%) قبل التجربة ولمدة 21 يوما. لوحظت إختلافات معنوية في الوزن النهائي للاسماك في تركيزي الخميرة المستخدمة، ادى استخدام الخميرة بتركيز 7% الى زيادة معنوية في النمو في معدل النمو النوعي والنسبي لاسماك التجربة.
