Abstract

The study was included 90 local cows from Al-Rashidea area which locates in the east ofBaghdad city, distributed into three groups, the smallest aged group (30) cows (1.5-2 ) years,middle aged group (30) cows (5.5-7) years and the older aged group (30) cows (11-13) years tostudy the effect progressing of age on some biochemical Criterias as indicators of oxidative stress.The results revealed that the antioxidant enzymes, Glutathione -S-transferase GST was increasedsignificantly (p<0.05) ) in middle -aged group And lower value in the older aging , it was noticedthat arylesterase enzyme gradually decreased significantly with age progress. The non enzymaticantioxidants such as Glutathione GSH revealed with the higher great value in the middle agegroup and the lower significant value in the aging compared with other groups. on the other handMalondialdehyde (MDA) and peroxy nitrite(ONOO-) level gradually increased with progressingof age, these events because of an increasing in production of free radicals and oxidative stressaccompanied with processing of age due to antioxidants depletion, which consider as a defenseline of body against the free radicals effects. It was concluded from this study that with agingprocesses have harm effects on blood components diagnosed by reducing in antioxidants levelsand increasing of Malondialdehyde and peroxy nitrite which consider as an indicators ofoxidative stress and this support the theory of free radicals and oxidative stress and their role inaging processes . Abstract

Background: Growth hormone is a hormone responsible for the normal body
growth and development by stimulation protein production in muscle cells and
energy release for breakdown of fat. On the other hand leptin is a newly discovered
hormone that is mainly synthesized in adipose tissues it decreases food intake by
causing satiety and promoting energy combustion . Both aging and obesity are
associated with a reduction in growth hormone secretion. In the mean time obese
humans have increased circulating leptin.
Objective: The aim of this paper is to shed light on the contribution of these two
hormones in the mechanism of aging process in an attempt of improving this
process for a better life at old ages.
Subjects and methods: Two hundred and seventy healthy subjects aged 25-64
years old participated in this study. The subjects' were divided into four groups
according to their ages and to three groups according to their weights. Urine
analysis from each subject was carried out to exclude diabetes and renal failure.
Sera from blood samples were used to carry out certain biochemical parameters and
hormone (growth hormone and leptin).
Results: The results obtained show a decrease in the level of growth hormone with
progression of age. In the mean time there is an increase in the level of serum leptin
with the advancement of age. Aging is usually associated with adiposity. Increasing
fat with age is probably multifactorial one potential mechanism for that is reduced
leptin transport across blood-brain barrier..
Conclusion: The increase in leptin level which was observed in elderly age group
and obese group suggest that the associated decrease in growth hormone serum
level is related to obesity in general and in particular to the aging process.

MORPHOLOGICAL AND HORMONAL STUDIES RELATED TO AGEING CHANGES OF HYPOTHALAMO-PITUITARY GLAND IN RABBITS

Abstract

Background: The hypothalamic - pituitary axis is an auto-regulating system that realizes a tight integration among the endocrine, nervous and immune systems.Objective: To identify anatomical and microscopical age changes of hypothalamus-pituitary gland.Methods: Eighteen female rabbits are divided into 3 groups, group A (4-6 months), group B (12-24 months) and group C (36-60 months). The rabbits are sacrificed and dissection of hypothalamus, pituitary gland is done, anatomical position, their weight, measurements and histological study of their sections regarding the number of different cell types.Results: The weight and number of cells in different parts of hypothalamus and pituitary gland are negatively correlated with age.The serum thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), growth hormone (GH), prolactin hormone (PRL), and adrenocorticotrophic hormone (ACTH) hormones almost remain unchanged while the level of leutinizing hormone (LH) and follicular stimulating hormone (FSH) were increasing with age, and the prolactin hormone level primarily increases with age then decreases with advancing age.Conclusion: The weight of the Hypothalamus and pituitary gland is primarily increased before age of 24 months, and then it started to decrease. The effects of aging inversely on the function and structure of hypothalamus and pituitary gland.Key words: Aging, hypothalamus, pituitary, HPA axis

Abstract

A numerical method (F.E.)was derived for incompressible viscoelastic materials, the aging and environmental phenomena especially the temperature effect was considered in this method. A treatment of incompressibility was made for all permissible values of poisons ratio. A mechanical model represents the incompressible viscoelastic materials and so the properties can be derived using the Laplace transformations technique .A comparison was made with the other methods interested with viscoelastic materials by applying the method on a cylinder of viscoelastic material surrounding by a steel casing and subjected to a constant internal pressure, as well as a comparison with another viscoelastic method and for Asphalt Concrete problem exposed to constant pressure (vehicles load) was done. The obtained results was very convenient, as well as, a large time steps can be taken than others methods.

تم اشتقاق اسلوب حل عددي (F.E.M) للمواد اللزجة المرنة غير القابلة للانضغاط ,تم إدخال ظاهرة التقادم و الظروف البيئية وخاصة تأثير درجات الحرارة, إضافة إلى معالجة خاصية عدم الانضغاطية لكل القيم المسموحة من نسبة بويسن. تم اعتماد نموذج ميكانيكي يمثل المواد اللزجة المرنة غير القابلة للانضغاط واشتقاق خواص المادة منه باستخدام تقنية لابلاس.تم مقارنة اسلوب الحل العددي مع أساليب حل أخرى للمواد اللزجة-المرنة, وتطبيق ذلك على اسطوانة لزجة-مرنة ذات غلاف خارجي مرن(من الفولاذ) مع وجود ضغط ثابت, إضافة إلى مقارنة مع اسلوب حل لزج-مرن آخر لحالة الإسفلت المتعرض لضغط ثابت (وزن المركبات). أظهرت النتائج تقارب كبير مع باقي الأساليب مع وجود ميزة استخدام خطوات اكبر للزمن.

Abstract

Recently the use of the composite material based on aluminum alloys matrix isincreased because of their good mechanical properties and light weight.In this work the addition of % SiC particle to the aluminum (6063) matrix effect wasconsidered and the solution heat treatment was applied on the produced compositematerial which has optimum properties followed by artificial aging.The work shows that the hardness increased and the wear rate decreased with theaddition of silicon carbide particles (SiC) , where as optimum produced compositematerial which has best properties is ( 15% SiC ) . On the other hand the increasingin temperature and time of artificial aging increases the properties.

يزداد استعمال المواد المركبة ذات الاساس من سبائك الالمنيوم كثيرا في الوقت الحاضر نظرا لما تملكههذه المواد من خواص ميكانيكية جيدة مع خفة الوزن.الى Wt%( تم في هذا البحث دراسة تاثير اضافة نسب مختلفة من دقائق كاربيد السليكون و هي ( 5و 10 و 15ارضية من سبيكة 6063 المنيوم ثم اجراء معاملة حرارية محلولية يتبعها تعتيق صناعي بدرجات حرارية وازمان مختلفة للمادة المركبة الناتجة ذات الخواص الامثل.اظهرت الدراسة ان الصلادة تزداد و معدل البلى يقل عند اضافة الدقائق السيراميكية المقوية و ان نسبة الاضافةالبالغة 15 % تعطي احسن الخواص. كما تبين من خلال النتائج ان زيادة درجة حرارة و زمن التعتيق الصناعييزيد من الخواص.

Abstract

Background: Aging has many effects on a person’s skin, from wrinkles and sags to increased risk of certain skin conditions, such as skin cancer. As people age, their skin begins to change due to environmental, genetic, nutrition and other factors.Objectives: Understand some of the changes that occur in aging skin including changes in the general morphological, histological and architectural arrangement, epidermal thickness, basement membrane and histochemical changes in melanocytes.Methods: Skin specimens were taken from the anterior abdominal wall of 30 human males at different ages. General histological preparation for paraffin blocks was performed and the blocks were sectioned at (5-6µ) and stained with H&E. S100 protein was used to demonstrate immunohistochemistry labeled melanocytes changes with age. Histometric measurement of epidermal thickness and basement membrane thickness, using eyepiece graticule was performed on these groups.Results: The young age group showed a uniform arrangement of cells in all stratums of the epidermis while the old age group showed diminished thickness of the epidermis. A significant difference between young- adult age group (A and B groups) and the old age group (C group) was recorded. The epithelial basement membrane thickness was increased with age significantly (P value ≤ 0.001). Melanocytes demonstration using S100 showed that these cells tend to be situated at the tips of rete pages, there number are generally low and didn't varied a lot between young and adult age groups. There was yet marked decline in the number of melanocytes in old age group.Conclusion: Aging as a process have a marked influences on skin morphology, thickness, cellularity and basement membrane.Key Words: Aging, skin, S100, morphometry and basement membrane

THE EFFECT OF AGING ON HUMAN TESTIS: ANATOMICAL AND HISTOLOGICAL STUDY

Abstract

Background: Aging of testis is gradual dysfunction of body organs and tissues due to reduction of cell number and loss of cell capacity for reproduction and regeneration of its structural elements.Objective: To study the age related changes of the human testes anatomically and histologically.Methods: Forty testes of twenty adult Iraqi male cadavers, with age ranged from 20-69 years were taken from the Forensic Medicine Department of Tikrit and Azadi Teaching Hospital in Salahddin and Kirkuk province, respectively during the period from November 2006 to September 2007. The testicular specimens were divided into five groups according to cadaver age. Tunica albuginea was removed to investigate the lobular and tubular structures of the testis, by anatomical and histological procedures.Results: The gross metrical measurement and anatomical inspection revealed that a negative correlation was existed between the process of aging and the weight of the postmortem, testis. A strong directly proportional positive correlation was found between age and the thickness of basement membrane, interstitial spaces between seminiferous tubules. Tubular sclerosis was observed in some testis specimens of senescent cadavers associated with a decrease in the number of the lining epithelial cells of the seminiferous tubules and sclerotic changes in the walls of testicular blood vessels.Conclusion: The process of aging leads to testicular changes such as tubular diverticula and decrease in number of leydig cells.Key words: Aging, Leydig cells, senescent testis, seminiferous tubules.

The Effect of Aging on Human Thyroid Gland: (Anatomical and Histological Study)

Abstract

Objectives: To study the effect of aging on human thyroid gland this was investigated anatomically and histologically.Methods: Twenty thyroid glands from twenty normal male cadavers were examined and divided into five groups each group includes four cadavers: Group (A) aged from 20-29 years, Group (B) from 30-39 years, Group (C) from 40-49 years, Group (D) from 50-59 years, Group (E) from 60-70 years.Results: Anatomically a negative correlation between process of aging, weight and length of thyroid lobes was found and the peak of weight and length of thyroid lobes present at group B. Histologically, the present study showed a significant negative correlation between age and number of thyroid follicles, follicular and parafollicular cells, while strong positive correlation was found between age and the number of squamous cells of follicular epithelial lining. The basement membrane, the thickness of interstitial tissue also showed a positive correlation with aging.Conclusions: The weight, length of thyroid gland decreased in approximately proportional level with age. Numbers of thyroid follicles, cuboidal and parafollicular cells are decreased with progressive increase of age. In contrast, the squamous cells are increased with aging process. الأهداف: لدِراسَة تأثيرِ الشَيْخُوخَة على الغدّةِ الدرقّيةِ في الانسان التي تَحرّتْ بشكل تشريحي ونسيجي.الطرق: عشرون غدّة درقّية أخذت مِنْ عشرون جثه من جنس ذكر فُحِصَت وقُسّمَت إلى خمس مجموعاتِ كُلّ مجموعة تَتضمّنُ أربعة جثثمجموعة (أ) بعمرِ مِنْ 20-29 سَنَوات، مجموعة (ب) مِنْ 30-39 سَنَوات، مجموعة (ج) مِنْ 40-49 سَنَوات، مجموعة (د) مِنْ 50-59 سَنَوات، مجموعة (ي) مِنْ 60-70 سَنَوات.النَتائِج: تشريحيا وجد إرتباط سلبي بين عمليةِ الشَيْخُوخَة وكُلّ مِنْ الوزنِ وطولِ فصوص الغده الدرقّيةِ.وفي هذه الدراسة وجد ان ذروة الوزنَ وطولَ فصوص الغدة الدرقّيةِ كَانَ في المجموعة (ب).اما نسيجيا فهذه الدراسة اظهرت ارتباط سلبي جيد بين العُمرِ وعددِ جريبات الدرقّيه والخلايا الجريبه وجنب الجريبيه, بينما إرتباط إيجابي قوي وُجِدَ بين العُمرِ وعددِ الخلايا الحرشفيه لبطانةِ الجريبات الطلائية. الغشاء القاعديوسمك الانسجه البينية أظهرت علاقه ايجابيه مع العمر.الإستنتاجات: لوزن و طول الغدّةِ الدرقّيةِ يقل معتقدم العمر, كذلك الخلايا الجريبيه المكعبه وجنب الجريبيه تقل مع تقدم العمر مقارنه بازدياد الخلايا الجريبيه المسطحه مع تقدم.
