Abstract

An experiment has been carried out to evaluate a diatomaceous earth on performance and egg traits of Japanese quail. The diatomaceous earth used in the current trial was food grade which produced in Germany and is listed Generally Regarded As Safe. Eighty layer Japanese quail were randomly divided into 2 treatments from 16-20 weeks of age. Each treatment consisted 4 replicates (pens) of 10 birds each. The first treatment (control) contained a standard recommended diet with no added diatomaceous earth. The second treatment was the basal diet of the first treatment plus 1.5% diatomaceous earth in the feed. Feed and water were offered ad libitum from days 1 to 140. Egg production per pen was recorded daily. Egg traits were measured at the end of each week during experimental period. Utilization of diatomaceous earth did not have a pronounced effect on the production parameters and weight of egg, albumen, and shell, but significantly improved yolk size.

Abstract

This study has been conducted at the poultry farm belong to department of Animal Resource, Agriculture College at University of Baghdad in the period from 20/10/2013 to 28/3/2014. This study was conducted to study the effects of adding different levels of Lycopene on yolk weight, albumen weight, egg shell weight and yolk yellow pigment concentration for local geese. A total of 48 local geese females in two years old were used in this study. Geese were randomly distributed to four treatments, each group has been consisted of 12 birds .Birds were fed on diet contain 15% crude protein with 2950 Kcal metabolic energy.kg-1 feed. Lycopene has been added to the diets at the beginning till the end of experiment period. Birds has been reared in single separated cages. Groups were as following: Treatment 1 : birds fed diet without additions of Lycopene (control group) , Treatment 2 : birds fed diet with 300 mg lycopene.Kg-1 of diet(T2) , Treatment 3 : birds fed diet with 600 mg lycopene.Kg-1 of diet(T3), Treatment 4 birds fed diet with 900 mg lycopene / Kg of diet(T4) . .

اجريت هذه الدراسة في حقل الطيور الداجنة التابع لقسم الثروة الحيوانية في كلية الزراعة / جامعة بغداد واستمرت التجربة الحقلية للمدة من 20 / 10 /2013 ولغاية 28 / 3 / 2014. لدراسة تأثير اضافة مستويات مختلفة من الليكوبين (Lycopene) الى العليقة في وزن صفار وبياض وقشرة بيض الوز المحلي استعمل في التجربة 48 انثى من الوز المحلي وبعمر 2 سنه. اسكنت الطيور في قاعة التجربة المتضمنة اقفاص سلكية شبكية. وزعت الاناث عشوائياً على اربع معاملات , وبواقع 12 انثى لكل معاملة. غذيت الطيور تغذية حرة على عليقة موحدة طوال مدة التربية تحتوي على %15 بروتين خام و 2950كيلو سعره طاقة ممثلة / لكل كغم علف. وتضمن البرنامج الضوئي 16 ساعة ضوء طيلة مدة التجربة.اضيف الليكوبين الى العليقة بثلاث تراكيز هي 300 و 600 و 900 ملغم / كغم علف لتمثل المعاملات T2 و T3 و T4على التوالي , بينما بقيت المعاملة T1 بدون اي اضافة اذ عدت معاملة سيطرة .
