Abstract

The toxic influence of dietary copper(Cu) and cobalt (Co) on the accumulation and body weight examined in broiler chicken. This experiment was conducted to investigate the toxic effects of dietary Cu and Co on chicks body weight and organ, content of the tissues of these two metals was also detected. One day age chicks of Gallus gallus domesticus fed diet supplemented with 500, 1000,1500ppm of Cu, second group exposure to 100,500, 1000ppm of Co in feed daily during 4 weeks. The control groups were fed without supplementation of metals. The concentrations of Cu and Co resulted in increased of Cu and Co content in liver, gizzard and muscle. Body weight of chicks was decreased by Cu and Co high concentration treatments. On the other hand, Liver weigh in chicks was significantly (P<0.05) decreased after Cu and Co treatments.

Abstract

This study was designated to investigate the effect of light color and stocking density on some productive performance of broilers. A total of 675 Ross 308 one-dayold broiler chicks were used in this study. The birds were exposed to white light (WL) as a control , red light (RL), blue light (BL), green light (GL), and Blue – Green mix light (BGL) by a light-emitting diode system (LED) applied for 24 hours daily in separated rooms. The birds were randomly divided and housed into 9 wooden sealed pens of 1m2in three replicates for each density 12, 15 and 18 birds/m2in the room. The results showed that the broilers reared under BGL significantly increased (P< 0.05) body weight (BW) and weight gain (WG) at 1st, 3rdand 5thweek. Obviously, stocking density had no significant effect on BW and WG at 1stweek but significantly increased under 12 birds/m2at 3rdand 5thweek. Feed intake (FI) recorded a significant increase (P< 0.05) in broilers reared under WL at 1stweek, but no statistical difference was found at 3rdweek whereas, FI significantly increased (P< 0.05) in broilers reared under BL at 5thweek. The stocking density affected FI values which were significantly differed (P< 0.05) at 1st, 3rdand 5thweek under 12 birds/m2compared with other densities. The results of the study revealed a significant increase (P< 0.05) of Feed conversion ratio (FCR) in broilers reared under BL at 1stweek and RL at 3rdweek but there was no significant difference between groups at 5thweek. The results indicated a significant difference of FCR value in 18 birds/m2at 1st week but there were no significant differences at 3rdand 5thweek at different densities. In conclusion, the results of this study indicated that chickens reared under five different color lighting schedules with three bird densities showed that broilers reared under mixing blue – green light under 12 birds/m2has a significant positive effects on production performance compared with other light programs and bird densities

Abstract

the a prospective study of the effect of body weight of 70 patients withlymphoma on the levels of serum sialic acid forms, total sialic acid, boundsialic acid, free sialic acid and lipid sialic acid were measured. The resultswere compared with those obtained from control groups which consisted of 50 personof matched age and sex.Objective: To determine the influence of body weight on the serum sialic acid forms.Methods: The patients were categorized into four groups according to the certainstatistical methods. The first group comprised 24 patients who have weight 5-20Kgrange. The second group comprised 13 patients who have weight 21-40Kg range. Thethird group comprised 12 patients who have weight 41-60Kg range. The fourth groupcomprised 21 patients who have weight >60Kg.Results: Significant elevations (P<0.005) of total sialic acid, bound sialic acid, freesialic acid, and lipid associated sialic acid (TSA, BSA, FSA, and LSA respectively)levels were seen in all groups of lymphoma patients when compared with those of thehealthy subjects. Total serum protein was decreased significantly (P<0.005) andTSA/TP, BSA/TP, FSA/TP, and LSA/TP ratios raised significantly (P<0.005) in thecancer patients in comparison with those of the healthy individuals.Conclusion: Sialic acid is not specific marker for detecting lymphoma patients.Keywords: Body weight, lymphoma patients, serum sialic acid

Abstract

Background and Objectives: to many dental disciplines, especially oral and maxillofacial surgeons to perform dental treatments and oral surgical procedures comfortably. This study was conducted to estimate the degree of mouth opening and its correlation to sex, age, height and weight.Methods: The maximum mean mouth opening of 1262 Kurdish adult was measured using a calibrated ruler, in addition to body height and weight. Student-t test was used to assess the statistical difference between males and females and Pearson correlation coefficient to assess the correlation between mouth opening and both body height and weight.Results: The mean value of mouth opening was 50.56 mm for males and 48.46 mm for females. The greatest mean mouth opening was noted in the age group of 16-24 and decreased gradually with advanced age. A significant positive correlation was noted between mouth opening and both body height and weight.Conclusions: Mouth opening was higher in males than females in all age groups and decreased gradually with advancing age. It was positively correlated with body height and weight.

Abstract

The study was conducted to determine the effect of of cumin (Cuminum cyminum) and ginger (Zingiber officinale) powder on performance in Japanese quails. 630 bird (7 birds for each treatment) nine weeks of age were used. Experiment was continued for 12 weeks divided to six periods and the birds distributed randomly on nine combinations of cumin and ginger, three levels of each plant powder namely, 0, 0.5 and 1%. T1 (Control) contain the slandered diet (0% of cumin and 0% of ginger), T2: (0% of cumin and 0.5% of ginger), T3: (0% of cumin and 1% of ginger), T4: (0.5% of cumin and 0% of ginger), T5: (0.5% of cumin and 0.5% of ginger), T6: (0.5% of cumin and 1% of ginger), T7: (1% of cumin and 0% of ginger), T8: (1% of cumin and 0.5% of ginger),T9: (1% of cumin and 1% of ginger. Results showed a significant effect (P˂0.05) of cumin and ginger powder on egg production in all periods and a significant effect on egg weight in the 3rd and 4th periods. Results showed a significant effect (P˂0.05) of cumin and ginger additives to the diets on body weight in the 4th, 5th and 6th periods. A significant improvement (P˂0.05) was observed in feed conversion ratio for the addition of cumin and ginger, while feed consumption was not affected. From the results of this experiment, we can conclude that the addition of these medical plants enhanced the productive traits and body weight in Japanese quail through the different period of rearing.

اجري البحث لدراسة تأثير اضافة مسحوق الكمون والزنجبيل في الاداء الانتاجي لطيور السمان الياباني البياض. تم استخدام 630 طائر (7 طير لكل معاملة) بعمر 9 اسابيع، استمرت التجربة لمدة 12 اسبوع قسمت الى 6 فترات، وزعت الطيور عشوائياً على تسع معاملات من الكمون والزنجبيل، وثلاثة مستويات من كل مسحوق نباتي وهي (0 ، 0.5 ،1 %). T1 : ( معاملة السيطرة) تحتوي على العليقة الاساس (0 % كمون و 0 % زنجبيل)،: T2 (0 % كمون و 0.5 % زنجبيل)، : T3(0 % كمون و 1 % زنجبيل)، T4: (0.5 % كمون و 0 % زنجبيل)، T5: (0.5 % كمون و 0.5 % زنجبيل)،: T6 (0.5 % كمون و 1% زنجبيل)، : T7(1 % كمون و 0 % زنجبيل)،T8: (1 % كمون و 0.5 % زنجبيل)، T9: (1 % كمون و1 % زنجبيل). اظهرت النتائج التأثير المعنوي (P<0.05) لمسحوق الكمون والزنجبيل على انتاج البيض في جميع الفترات والتأثير المعنوي على وزن البيض في الفترتين الثالثة والرابعة. اظهرت النتائج تأثير معنوي (P<0.05) من اضافة الكمون والزنجبيل الى العليقة على وزن الجسم في الفترات الرابعة والخامسة والسادسة. كما لوحظ حصول تحسن معنوي (P<0.05) في معامل التحويل الغذائي لصالح معاملات اضافة الكمون والزنجبيل، في حين لم يتأثر معدل استهلاك العلف.

Abstract

Most medical books and researches documented that increased body weight is a predisposing factor to hypertension , and there is recent work in this field as well.In this research , the relationships between hypertension and body weight with age were studied in Iraqi population .It is concluded that diastolic hypertension is separated from systolic and combined hypertension and increased body weight has little effect on increased blood pressure.

يذكر في معظم الكتب الطبية والبحوث ان زيادة الوزن تعتبر عامل مساعد في ارتفاع ضغط الدم وتوجد بحوث حديثة كثيرة في هذا المجال .اجري هذا البحث في المجتمع العراقي واخذ بنظر الاعتبار عامل العمر لكونه له علاقة بالوزن وزيادته.جد ان ارتفاع الضغط الانبساطي يختلف عن ارتفاع الضغط الانقباضي وارتفاع الضغط المركب ( الانبساطي والانقباضي معا) وان تأثير زيادة وزن الجسم قليل جدا.

Abstract

This study was designed in Marine Sciences station (Aqaba) during the period September 2000 to October 2001 . The study of the effect of body weight on the metabolic rate revealed the presence of a proportional relationship between the metabolic and body weight and the presence of inverse relationship between the metabolic and body weigh.In snails acclimated to 10 &ordm;C, 20 &ordm;C, and 30 &ordm;C, the Weight specific metabolic rate was influenced by both acclimation as well as experimental temperature. Thus, the oxygen consumption rate increased 1n 10 &ordm;C acclimated snail from 44 µl O2. g&#713;¹ . hr&#713; ¹ to 105 µl O2. g&#713;¹ . hr&#713; ¹ As a result of increasing the experimental temperature from 10 &ordm;C to 30. &ordm;C In 20 and 30 &ordm;C acclimated snail, and as a result of increasing the experimental temperature from 10 to 30, the weight specific oxygen consumption rates increased (20 &ordm;C and 30 &ordm;C ) from 40 µl O2. g&#713;¹ . hr&#713; ¹ to 88 and 35 to 85 µl O2. g&#713;¹ . hr&#713; ¹ Respectively. Snails acclimated to 10 &ordm;C ,20 &ordm;C and 30 &ordm;C showed Precht s type 3 normal the(partial) compensation in weight specific oxygen consumption rate , since at all experiment temperatures , the highest oxygen consumption rate was observed in 10 &ordm;C Acclimated animals, whereas the lowest rate was observed in 30 &ordm;C acclimated snails.

Changes in Body Weight, Serum (Sodium, Potas-sium) and Serum Albumin after Intermaxillary Fixation in Traumatized and Obese Patients (Comparative Study)

Abstract

Aims of the study: to evaluate the effects of intermaxillary fixation (IMF) on body weight, serum electrolytes ( Na+ and K+ ) and serum Albumin in traumatized and obese patients and to compare the changes between these two groups. Materials and Methods: A non randomized prospective study was done. The anthropometric measurement included 4 sites of skin fold thickness (triceps, biceps, subsca-pular and suprailiac skin folds), upper arm circumference, body mass index and laboratory investiga-tions to assess serum(Na+ and K+) levels and serum albumin level. The patients were divided in to 2 groups, the first group included 25 traumatized patients and the second group included 7 volunteer ob-ese patients and IMF was placed for those patients as one of the treatment lines for their body weight reduction and were considered as the control group. The parameters were recorded for each patient in the 2 groups preoperatively, one week, three weeks and six weeks postoperatively. Paired and un paired T tests were used in the statistical analysis, a P value < 0.05 was considered highly significant. Results: The changes of the anthropometric measurements, body mass index, serum K+ and serum albumin were statistically highly significant in traumatized patients with body weight loss ranging be-tween (5-8) Kg in this group. The changes of the anthropometric measurements and body mass index in the obese patients group were also statistically highly significant with a loss of (5-6) Kg in body weight in this group. The changes of anthropometric measurements and body mass index were statisti-cally highly significant in traumatized patients than in obese patients, while the changes in serum (Na+ and K+ ) and serum Albumin level were statistically not significant between the two groups. Conclu-sion: IMF compromises the nutritional status of the patients leading to loss of water, fat and protein in both traumatized and obese patients but the effect more pronounced in traumatized patient due to the metabolic and hormonal response to trauma together with the limited oral intake.

Abstract

Objectives: Evaluation of a new mathematical formula (FEMUR 4) derived from twin population to estimate fetal weight in twins using ultrasound.Design: retrospective analysis of ultrasonic measurements of 103 twins from 30 – 40 wks of gestation born within 3 days of ultrasonic examination.Setting: Al Yarmouk Teaching Hospital, Baghdad, Iraq.Methods: Between Sep. 2004 and Dec. 2005 at the Obstetric and Gynecological department in Al- Yarmouk Teaching Hospital a cross-sectional ultrasonic measures obtained from 107 twin pregnancies, estimated fetal weight was calculated using mathematical model of Campbell, Shepard, and Hadlock, the calculations were repeated for the model Femur 4, all models were compared against Femur 4.Results: Femur 4 had been found to have positive correlation with actual birth weight with coefficient of determination of linear regression value of 0.859. It had the percent of estimation of fetuses within 10 percent of their actual BW (87.9 percent). It had the mean percentage error of 0.03 (6.52) compared to singleton derived formulae. In fetal growth deviation it had been found to have accuracy rate in detecting those below their 10th centile for gestational age of (90.8 percent) and (96.1 percent) in disclosing those who were growth discordant twins.Conclusion: Femur 4 seems to be more reliable than singletone derived formulae in estimating fetal weight in twins, and in general, American population designed formulae are probably still applicable on our Iraqi people.Key Words: twin pregnancy• new formula• estimated body weight• ultrasound

ان الهدف من هذه الدراسة هو تقييم قابلية صيغة رياضية جديدة تسمى (عظم الفخذ 4) المشتقة من التوائم في تقدير وزن الجنين في التوائم باستعمال الامواج فوق الصوتية مقارنه بقابلية الصيغ الرياضية المشتقة من الحمل المفرد في ذلك مع مقارنة النتائج الحاصلة من دراستنا مع دراسة مسبقة.اجريت الدراسة على (103) توأم مدة الحمل بهم تتراوح بين (30 الى 39) اسبوع جميعهم ولدوا خلال ثلاثة ايام من اجراء الفحص بالامواج فوق الصوتية في مستشفى اليرموك التعليمي.تم تقدير اوزان الاجنه بالطرق التقليدية لكل من (كامبل , شيبارد و هادلوك) واعيد حساب الاوزان بواسطة عظم الفخذ 4 فكانت النتائج كالاتي:كان للصيغة الرياضية عظم الفخذ 4 اقوى علاقة موجبة مع وزن الجسم الحقيقي بمعامل علاقة = 0.859 كما احرزت اعلى نسبة مئوية في تقدير الوزن ضمن 10% من الوزن الحقيقي 87.9% وكان لها اصغر معدل نسبة خطأ 0.03 (6.52) مقارنة مع الصيغ الرياضية المشتقة من الحمل المفرد. يبدو من ذلك ان هذه المعادلة الرياضية يمكن الاعتماد عليها اكثر من الصيغ الرياضية المشتقة في تقدير وزن الجنين التوأم.

Abstract

This study was conducted at the animal farm, Department of animal production, College of Agriculture - University of Tikrit, to demonstrate the effect of the selection on a brown flock of Japanese quail selected at the age of four weeks to the highest body weight and low than the rate of the herd in addition to the line of control. Selected as the best of families depending on the external appearance of the individual treatment was divided into ten families by one male for all three females per family. Chicks weighed individually numbered in the region of legs and then weight each week. The results showed superiority chick embryos Line-Select of the high body weight at hatching and at the age of two , four and six weeks and body weight at sexual maturity and four generations compared to the line side of body weight, low-Line of Control.

أجريت هذه الدراسة في حقل قسم علوم الثروة الحيوانية التابع الى كلية الزراعة – جامعة تكريت لبيان تأثير الانتخاب على قطيع طائر السلوى الياباني البني والمنتخب عند عمر أربعة أسابيع لوزن جسم أعلى واقل من معدل القطيع بالإضافة الى خط السيطرة ولمدة أربعة أجيال. إذ انتخبت افضل العوائل اعتماداً على المظهر الخارجي للفرد قسمت المعاملة الواحدة الى عشرة عوائل بواقع ذكر واحد وثلاث إناث لكل عائلة .وزنت الأفراخ فردياً عند عمر يوم واحد بعد ترقيمها في منطقة الأرجل ومن ثم تم وزنها أسبوعياً . وقد أظهرت النتائج تفوق معنوي لأفراخ الخط المنتخب لوزن الجسم المرتفع عند العمر يوم واحد وعند عمر أسبوعان وأربعة أسابيع وستة أسابيع ووزن الجسم عند النضج الجنسي وللأجيال الأربعة مقارنة بالخط المنتخب لوزن الجسم المنخفض وخط السيطرة .
