The effect of 35% H2O2 and 22%carbamide peroxide on compressive strength of composite resin

Abstract

Back ground: The compressive strength of composite resin may be affected by bleaching agent. This study wasconducted to evaluate the effect of two different bleaching agents; at home (22% carbamide peroxide) and inoffice; light activated (35% hydrogen peroxide) bleaching agent on the compressive strength of light curedcomposite resin; spectrum (submicron hybrid composite).Material and methods: A total number of 20 samples were prepared,10 samples for each type of bleaching agentwhich were divided in to 2 groups; first group was subjected to at-home bleaching for one day. The second groupwas subjected to at-home bleaching for one week, The third group was subjected to the in-office (35% H2O2) for oneday. The forth group was subjected to in-office bleaching for three days.Results: There were statistically significant differences between the tested groups (p=0.048). Highly significantreduction of the compressive strength of composite was observed subsequent to treatment with H2O2 for three times.Conclusion: Reduced compressive strength was detected in composite when it was subjected to bleaching processwith H2O2 carbamide peroxide.

Abstract

Tooth bleaching or whitening is not a new technique in dentistry and it is evident from the published literature that the technique has been in use for over one hundred and fifty years . The question concerning the whiteness of teeth is a complex one since tooth whiteness may vary from individual to individual, and is also dependent on the age of the individual and culture etc. Tooth whitening following treatment may also be dependent on the type of whitening system used to whiten the teeth. There are a number of side-effects to this process and these include dentine sensitivity and gingival irritation . Normally these side effects should resolve after approximately 48 hours following treatment although in extreme situations may last for several months. The purpose of this overview was therefore to review the available published literature in order to determine whether there was any evidence that the application of 10% and 15% carbamide peroxide in tooth whitening procedures resulted in tooth (dentine) sensitivity. The conclusions from the review would indicate that tooth whitening with either 10% or 15% carbamide peroxide was an effective and safe treatment under a dental professionals’ supervision following careful diagnosis and treatment planning. Reported side-effects from these studies, namely dentine sensitivity and gingival irritation were considered mild to moderate in nature and were transient in duration. Reported incidences of dentine sensitivity range from 15-65% of patients using 10% carbamide peroxide whereas higher incidences (67-78%) were reported when using hydrogen peroxide in combination with heat.

قصر او تبييض الاسنان ليست تقنية جديدة في مجال طب الاسنان ويتضح من البحوث المنشورة ان هذه التقنية قد تم استخدامها لاكثر من مائة وخمسين عاما بياض الاسنان عملية معقدة بسبب ان بياض الاسنان قد يختلف من من شخص الى آخر ، ويعتمد ايضا على العمر والثقافة .. الخ تبييض الاسنان بعد العلاج ربما يعتمد على نوع نظام التبييض المستخدم لتبييض الاسنان . هناك عدد من الاثار الجانبية لهذه العملية ، منها حساسية الاسنان وتهيج اللثة هذه الاثار الجانبية ينبغي ان تزول عادة بعد حوالي 48 ساعة بعد العلاج رغم انه في الحالات الحادة قد تستمر لعدة اشهر . الغرض من هذا الاستعراض هو تحديد ما اذا كان هناك دليل على ان استخدام 10% و 15% من بيروكسيد كارباميد في عملية تبييض الاسنان تسبب في حساسية طبقة العاج في الاسنان . ان الاستنتاجات من هذا الاستعراض تشير الى ان تبييض الاسنان باستخدام كلا من 10% او 15% من بيروكسيد كارباميد هو علاج فعال وآمن باشراف اطباء الاسنان بعد التشخيص الدقيق والتخطيط للعلاج . الآثار الجانبية التي تم ملاحظتها من هذه الدراسات ، هي حساسية طبقة العاج وتهيج اللثة والتي تعد في طبيعتها خفيفة الى معتدلة وتكون قصيرة الفترة . تم ملاحظة حالات من حساسية طبقة العاج تراوحت نسبتها بين 15 – 65% من المرضى الذين استخدموا 10% من بيروكسيد اليوريا بينما حالات بنسبة اعلى (67 – 78%) عند استخدام بيروكسيد الهدروجين يرافقه حرارة .

Abstract

The aim of this study was to compare the effect of two professional bleachingproducts (in-office Opalescence Boost hydrogen peroxide 38%) and (home bleachingOpalescence carbamide peroxide 35%) on enamel microhardness.The sample consist of thirty maxillary first premolars teeth (freshly extracted),caries free obtained from children aged 12 years old under routine orthodontictreatment. The teeth were sectioned mesiodistally parallel to the long axis of tooth andmounted on acrylic mold. The specimens were divided into two halves buccal andpalatal as per treatment, the buccal half served as experimental, while the palatal halfserved as control (1) and kept in artificial saliva at 37c0 for two weeks. Microhardnesstest were obtained before and after bleaching.Results indicated that teeth specimens submitted to Opalescence carbamideperoxide 35% showed highly significant reduction in enamel microhardness P<0.01,while no-significant difference in enamel microhardness in specimens submitted toOpalescence Boost 38% hydrogen peroxide P>0.05.In this study Opalescence carbamide peroxide 35% leads to the significantdecrease in enamel microhardness compared to Opalescence Boost hydrogenperoxide 38%.

Abstract

Background: One of the drawbacks of vital teeth bleaching is color stability. The aim of the present study was toevaluate the effects of tea and tomato sauce on the color stability of bleached enamel in association with theapplication of MI Paste Plus (CPP-ACPF).Materials and Methods: Sixty enamel samples were bleached with 10% carbamide peroxide for two weeks thendivided into three groups (A, B and C) of 20 samples each. After bleaching, the samples of each group weresubdivided into two subgroups (n=10). While subgroups A1, B1 and C1 were kept in distilled water, A2, B2, and C2were treated with MI Paste Plus. Then, the samples were immersed in different solutions as follow: A1 and A2 indistilled water (control); B1 and B2 in black tea; and C1 and C2 in tomato sauce for half an hour/day for seven days.Using a colorimeter, Teeth color measurements were recorded at baseline, after bleaching, staining, and polishing.Color changes were recorded according to the Vita shade guide and the CIE Lab system. Student's t-test was usedto analyze differences between the subgroups at p<0.05.Results: Significant color changes were recorded for the tea group after staining, but not after polishing (p<0.05). Nosignificant differences in color measurements were recorded between the subgroups of each group at all periods(p>0.05).Conclusion: Only tea produced clinically perceivable color change of bleached enamel after staining as well asafter polishing. MI Paste Plus did not affect enamel color change for all the groups.

Abstract

This split-arch clinical study was performed to compare the effects of using 10% carbamide peroxide bleaching agent for one hour twice a day with its use for 8 hours/night on tooth color change, color stability and sensitivity. Method: Bleaching trays, with reservoirs for the six maxillary anterior teeth, were fabricated for 12 volunteers. The trays were cut into two halves between the left and right central incisors (day-side vs. night-side) to be used with 10% carbamide peroxide for two weeks. The day-side tray was applied for one hour twice a day, while the night-side was applied for 8 hours overnight. Objective color measurements, using a colorimeter, were adopted to measure the color of the teeth of the two sides at the baseline appointment and at 1, 2, 3, 6 and 12 weeks. Total color difference (ΔE*) between two color measurements was calculated for all periods. Teeth and soft-tissue sensitivity were self-recorded for both sides during the bleaching weeks and the following week. Both Student's t-test and Tukey's test were used to compare ΔE* between the two sides and with time at p<0.05. Results: Both sides showed significant differences in ΔE* over time (p<0.05). However, no significant differences were recorded between the two sides at each measuring period (p>0.05). Conclusion: At-home bleaching treatment using 10% carbamide peroxide for one hour twice daily produced similar tooth color change, stability and sensitivity with its use for 8 hours/night.

تبييض الاسنان باستخدام العلاج البيتي باستعمال 10% كاربمايد بيروكسايد لمده 8 ساعات ليلا كل يوم لمدة اسبوعين يعمل على تبيض الاسنان بكقاءه ولكن مثل هذا النوع من النظام العلاجي قد يكون غير مناسب لجميع طالبي الحصول على تبيض امن وسهل الاستخدام.طريقة العمل: تم تطويع 12 متطوع لتطبيق دراسة سريرية لمقارنة استخدام مادة التبيض المذكورة اعلاه لمدة اسبوعين باستخدام نظامين علاجيين مختلفين والمقارنة بينها. تم عمل قوالب التبييض للفك العلوي لجميع المتطوعين ثم تم قطع القالب الى نصفين حيث يتم استخدام احد الانصاف لمدة ساعة واحدة فقط مرتين باليوم اما النصف الاخر يتم استخدامه 8 ساعات ليلا. عملية التغيير في لون اللاسنان للجانبين تم قياسها باستخدام جهاز قياس الالوان قبل البدء بالتبيض وبعد الاسبوع الاول والثاني والثالث والسادس والثاني عشرمن التبييض. كما قام مقيمان مستقلان اثنان بتقييم الجانبين لبيان اذا كان هناك فرق بين الجانبين وتحديد اي منها اكثر بياضا. كماتم تسجيل مقدار حساسية الاسنان في الجانبين من قبل المتطوعين انفسهم.النتائج: اظهرت النتائج وجود فرق مميز في التبيض مع الوقت لكن ليس هناك فرق في التبيض بين الجانبين. كما ليس هناك فرق في كمية حساسية الاسنان في كلا الجانبين.الاستنتاجات: تبيض الاسنان البيتي باستخدام 10% كاربومايد بيروكسايد لمدة ساعة واحدة مرتين باليوم نتج عنه تبيض مشابه لاستخدامه لمدة 8 ساعات ليلا.

Abstract

Background: Combining at-home and in-office vital teeth bleaching techniques has proven to be effective; however, the efficacy of combining at-home bleaching agents is still unclear. Objective: To compare the effectiveness of 10% and 35% carbamide peroxide at-home bleaching agents solo or in combination.Materials and Methods: Forty enamel samples from human premolars were divided into four groups (n=10) to receive different at-home bleaching protocols. The samples were bleached for two weeks as follow: G1 bleached with 10%CP for 8h/day; G2 bleached with 35%CP for 30 minutes/day; G3 starting with 35%CP for three days and continue with 10%CP for the last 11 days; and G4 bleached with 10%CP for the first 11 days and with 35%CP for the last three days. Teeth color measurements were recorded by a colorimeter in reference to the CIE L*a*b* at different periods. Student's t-test was used to compare between the groups at each measuring period.Results: No significant differences were seen among the four groups neither in ΔE*1& ΔE*2 nor in ΔE*6 (p>0.05).Conclusion: Both 10% and 35%CP, used for two weeks, were effective in teeth whitening. Compared with 10% CP, combination treatments whether starting with 35% CP or ending with it produced no significant difference in teeth whitening during the treatment or one month post operatively.

خلفية الدراسة: : اصبح تبييض الاسنان باستخدام تقنية مزج التبييض في عيادة طبيب الاسنان مع التبييض البيتي من الوسائل المؤثرة والفعالة في تبييض الاسنان المتلونه الحية ولكن حتى الان لم بتم بحث تاثير استخدام مادة التبييض البيتي العالية التركيز مفردة او مع تركيز قليل على فعالية التبييض اهداف الدراسة: لتقييم تأثير تركيزين مختلفين (10% و 35%) كارباميد بيروكسيد من مواد تبيض الاسنان البيتي مفردة او مشتركة على تبييض الاسنان الحية.المواد وطرائق العمل : نماذج من مينا الاسنان مقتطعة من اسنان مقلوعة قسمت الى اربع مجموعات. تم تبييضها لمدة اسبوعين كالتالي : G1و G2باستخدام 10% و 35% كارباميد بيروكسيد منفرده. لكن G3 و G4 تم مزج التركيزين اما استخدام 35% اولا لمدة 3 ايام ثم تكملة العلاج مع 10% او بالعكس. تم قياس التغيير في لون الاسنان قبل , اثناء ,عند اكتمال العلاج وبعد الانتهاء منه باستخدام جهاز خاص لقياس L*a*b*)) ومن ثم قياس مجموع التغيير(ΔE)النتائج: لم يتم العثور على اختلاف في ΔE لا اثناء العلاج ولا بعد 4 اسابيع منه (p>0.05). الاستنتاجات: ستخدام 35٪ كارباميد بيروكسيد مفردا او مشتركا مع 10 % نتج عنه تبييض اسنان مقارب مع 10 % كارباميد بيروكسيد سواء اثناء العلاج او بعده.
