Abstract

ABSTRACT:BACKGROUND:Helicobacter pylori (HP) cause a continuous gastric inflammation in virtually all infected persons. It induces a vigorous systemic and mucosal humoral and cellular immune response. In spite of these responses, the vast majority of infected hosts are unable to clear the infection and it persists for decades.OBJECTIVE:Determination the humoral immune response to HP infection in dyspeptic patients.PATIENTS AND METHODS:The immunological serological tests were evaluated in 80 dyspeptic patients divided into two groups: (HP +) and (HP-). Levels of specific HP IgG antibodies were determined through a specific immunological non invasive Enzyme Linked Immuno Sorbent Assay (ELISA) test from Biohit PIC, Helsinki, Finland. Immunoglobulin levels and complement were done (IgG, IgA, IgM, C3 and C4) using single radial immune diffusion (BioMaghreb-Tunis).RESULT:About 62.5 % of dyspeptic patients had HP + infection. There was no significant differences between two groups in the levels of (IgG, IgA, IgM, C3 and C4) and most of them were within normal values.CONCLUSION:Humoral immune response had an important role in the control and limits the inflammation of gastric mucosa.

Abstract

ABSTRACT:BACKGROUND:Ramadan fasting is one of the pillaris of islam. The fasting time is about 12-19 hours depending on the season in which Ramadan falls and the geographic position of the country. It is often a subject of discussion nether or not Ramadan fasting confer any harmful effect on the body.OBJECTIVES:The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of Ramadan fasting on some clinical, biochemical and Immunological aspects of the healthy and type two Diabetes mellitus patients.METHODS:The study was performed on (30) healthy fasting and (30) patients with type two diabetes mellitus in the month of Ramadan (2005). Blood samples were obtained on the second and fourth week's of Ramadan and were analyzed for fasting blood sugar, urea, uric acid, lipid profile, Immunoglobulins and complement component concentration, in addition, lymphocyte was separated to study the lymphocyte transformation assay in vitro compared with healthy non-fasting.RESULTS:There was slight elevation in the HDL-C, B. urea, S. Triglyceride, VLDL, S. uric acid and slight reduction in LDL-C at the end of fasting. There was slight reduction but the difference was non-significant (P>0.05) in the value of immunoglobulins (IgA, IgG, IgM) and (C3, C4) also, there was no difference in the sensitization rate of lymphocyte transformation in both healthy and type two diabetic patients compared with healthy non-fasting control.CONCLUSION:Slight elevation of HDL-C and slight elevation of B. urea, S. uric acid, S. Triglyceride, VLDL and there is non significant changes in Immunoglobulins and complement concentration and sensitization rate of lymphocyte transformation. Thus, Ramadan is safe for type two diabetic patients with the proper education of diabetic management.

Abstract

Trichomonas vaginalis (TV) is a sexually transmitted anaerobic protozoan parasite. In women, the infection frequently associated with infertility. However, the exact effect of the parasite that leads to infertility is a debate issue. This study aimed to determine the impact of TV infection on serum levels of prolactin (PRL), C3 and C4 and the correlation of these parameters with the infertility. A total of 142 women were investigated for TV infection and infertility. Serum levels of PRL, and complement (C3 and C4) were estimated using mini Vidas and single radial immune diffusion assay respectively. Infertile women positive for TV had significantly higher serum levels of PRL than infertile women negative for TV, while serum levels of C3 decreased significantly in both fertile and infertile TV-infected women compared with their counterparts of non-infected women. Thus, it can be concluded that increased serum levels of PRL could be incriminated as a cause of infertility in TV-infected women.

Abstract

Background: Measles remains a major cause of worldwide childhood mortality, and has been targeted by the WHO for global eradication following the eradication of poliomyelitis. Despite the implementation of mass school catch-up campaigns for measles, an outbreak of measles occurred mostly affecting the adult population. Objectives: To measurement of Highly Sensitive C Reactive Protein (Hs CRP) and C3 Complement levels in adult volunteers after vaccination with live attenuated measles containing vaccine, and to compare the results with that following vaccination. Subjects and methods: A sero-surveys for serum Hs CRP and C3 complement levels was conducted among [190] healthy young adults aged 18-25 years, randomly selected, and to compare after a national campaign with measles containing vaccine. Hs CRP and C3 complement were detected in volunteer’s sera prior to, 1, and 4 weeks after vaccination, measured by Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay and Single Radial Immunodiffusion Assay respectively. Results: There was a significant differences (p ≤ 0.05) in the concentration of serum Hs CRP and C3 complement at week one following vaccination with measles containing vaccine, and returned to normal after four weeks. Conclusions: Raising Highly Sensitive C Reactive Protein and Complement C 3 Levels in the sera of adult volunteers after measles containing virus vaccine administration could play a role in increasing innate immune response against measles virus infection and may explain some mechanisms of immune response associated with measles infection.

Abstract

The image compression required signed data that has a symmetric about zero to improve the efficiency of the compression. The unsigned images will convert to signed images using 1’complement (1’C) converter or 2’complement (2’C) converter. The converter (1’C or 2’C) has two problems first is the transform is not reversible because the overlap in the last two values for 1’C or the first two values for 2’C. Second it is high cost for the general converter. The proposed method is a hybrid method between 1’C and 2’C make the overlap in the middle two values, that will give a reversible conversion and it has a very low cost for the general converter.

Abstract

The acute phase response is a major pathophysiologic phenomenon that accompanies inflammation whether acute or chronic. Complement (C3 and C4) and C - reactive protein (CRP) are positive acute phase proteins (+ ve APPs ). Their production takes place in hepatocyte and the blood concentration of these parameters are increased in osteoarthritis (OA). Chloroquine (CQ) is a diprotic weak base traditionally used to treat malaria. Recently the phosphate salt of CQ is used to decrease this type of (+ve APPs) . In this study, patients who suffered from knee osteoarthritis (KOA) are treated with oral dosage form of chloroquine phosphate (CQP) for one month, twice daily. Our results demonstrate that CQP improves the patient status by decreasing complement and C-reactive protein in blood.

Abstract

BackgroundThe leukocyte integrin that plays a major role in neutrophil activities is CD11b. In addition to mediating neutrophil adherence to endothelial cells, CD11b binds to the complement component iC3b and directs phagocytosis and intracellular lysis of microorganisms.ObjectiveTo determine whether neutrophil activation, through the increased surface expression of the cell surface markers CD11a, CD11b, CD11c have a correlation with the values of complement components C3 and C4 in pregnant women with pre-eclampsia.MethodsThis study was conducted at the AlKadhemiya Teaching Hospital. Patients were 60 pregnant women in labour subdivided into three groups:Group A: 20 pregnant women with severe pre-eclampsia.Group B: 20 pregnant women with mild-moderate pre-eclampsia.Group C: 20 normotensive pregnant women (control group). We performed the following laboratory measurements for all groups: total white blood cell WBC count, cell surface expression of CD11a, CD11b, CD11c by direct immunofluorescent technique, and serum complement C3 and C4 levels by radioimmunodiffusion method (RID).ResultsThere was a significant difference in neutrophil activation as detected by the cell surface expression of CD11a, CD11b, CD11c being higher in the pre-eclamptic group than the control group. The incidence of neutrophil activation was significantly higher among patients in group A compared to the other groups. There was a significant difference in the serum level of C3 and C4 in the pre-eclamptic group being higher in group A and B than group C.ConclusionsNo correlation was found between the markers of neutrophil activation (CD11a, CD11b, CD11c) and the serum levels of (C3, C4) in the pre-eclamptic group. The incidence of adverse maternal and neonatal outcome is significantly higher among patients in group A compared to the other two groups.Key wordsPreeclampsia, complement serum level, CD11a, CD11b, CD11C, neutrophil.
